WHY I'm using the FUJI X-H1 instead of the X-T3 + A Change is coming

Today I am answering a question that I have been asked so much recently and that is, why I'm using the Fuji X-H1 instead of my Fuji X-T3 for landscape photography. During the video, I take to my local woodland and get rewarded with some amazing conditions

    Beautifully shot, Ian, and gorgeous images. The X-H1 is my preferred body for landscapes too, though not for the same reasons as yours. I find it a bit more rugged and robust than any of the X-T1/2/3/4 bodies, and heavier lenses like the 50-140 and 16-55 feel far more manageable when shooting handheld (likely because of the deeper grip).

I enjoyed your clip, great shots and videos, I like the atmosphere you pick to take your images👍 I try to make a choice between the XT3 and XT4, the question really being what body gives me the best guarantee to shoot pics in lower light situation,having the same lense for instance. Does the IBIS play a significant role, or if I couple the XT3 with a good prime or the 16-55 f2.8 that should be good for lowlight pictures? Thanks a lot if you could give your input👌😎

    I'm reading comments that the new camera could be an XS10...which isn't weather sealed...so for Ian's purposes I wouldn't think this would be a practical body at all. The X-T4 has the fully articulating screen, which could get in the way of a vertical L mount composition so ..hmm...will be interesting to find out (of course the X-T4 could be used for its IBIS for vlogging so perhaps so!) Always great work from Ian regardless what he uses and ultra inspirational! (Tobias here, this is my photo-centered, rather than film-centered, account :-) )

    Do you edit photos in Lightroom? If you do, do you zoom in to 1:1 to make sure your photo is sharp and in focus? If you do, how do you feel about the files from X-Trans sensors? I have had an x-t1 and I own a x-t2 now. Every time I zoom in to the photos to check that they are sharp and ready to be edited and later printed, I always notice the problems with the files. And it bothers me. And recently I got a x-t100 and when I zoom in to check the files from that, I don’t feel bad at all. They look great. And it makes me wish my x-t2 had the x-t100 sensor. That would be a perfect camera for me. It’s just so frustrating to me that Fuji continues to use the x-trans sensors. Those sensors doesn’t seem to bring anything to the table. Quite the opposite, they have problems that normal sensors doesn’t. And it’s so weird to me that no one seem to be talking about this. Every time I bring this up, people seem to get very defensive and feel the need to defend the x-trans sensors. And I don’t get it. I guess a lot of Fuji users don’t actually have experience with low end Fuji cameras that have normal sensors. Most people seem to goes for the more expensive cameras instead and never downgrades to the x-t100 or 200. So they don’t know what they’re missing. And the people who DO buy the x-t100 and 200 are beginners that don’t have experience with x-trans sensors. (That’s just my theory though. I have no date or anything to back that up.) Am I the only one who feels like this? Btw, yes, I know Lightroom is bad at understanding x-trans files. And it’s incredible that Adobe STILL have not fixed it. And if they did I would not complain. But here is the thing, the x-trans sensors still does not do anything special as far as I can see. For me, they still feel like just a thing to put on the box to sell cameras. Is there something about that I just don’t understand? Something they do that normal sensors don’t and that is needed? I am genuinely curious. Anyway, sorry for this long rant. Would love to hear your, or anyone’s thoughts about this. Ps: When I say “it has problems” I do not mean serious, deal breaking problems, okay. But problems nonetheless. Even small problems are worse than the absence of problems, you know.

  • @ian_worth

    @ian_worth

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think most of the problems come from over sharpening, even Lightroom default is too much. Try taking the sharpening off and opening it in photoshop and apply sharpening there, the files are way cleaner 👍👍

    Hi Ian, i love this camera body too, i own 2 of them, and i'm about to buy my 5th lense to go with them. Although i have some major issues with AF, espacially on landscapes lacking contrasts. As Fujifilm tech support suggested, i've switched to manual focus, which is fair enough for landscape. Today, i was horrified to realize i also have a lot of blurr shot when using it in AF mode. Have you ever had issues of this kind ? (thanks and congrats for you great videos, by the way)

    I left Fuji back in January. My favorite Fuji camera was the X-H1. I preferred using it over the X-T3 - something about the shutter and feel of the body that made the camera so enjoyable to use. This is one of my most used ranges for a rather big genre I now cover. The 10-24 f/4 was not an option since I would have had to shoot over ISO 10000 for practically every shot and quick AF was not there. With Fuji system, I had to carry two cameras with the two red badge zooms to cover the range. Now I use the A9 with the 16-35 GM.

    You really made use of the lovely conditions. I have wondered about using the 2 second timer. Apologies if you've already explained this, but why not use a cable release or the Fuji Remote app? The app would allow you to trigger the shutter, and also change some settings as you were doing in Padley Gorge last week. However, my experience with it is limited, so may be there are also some negatives.

  • @artsilva

    @artsilva

    3 жыл бұрын

    I found the timer is a lot less worrisome than a remote or especially the app. Get your settings and composition dialed in and once you chose the predetermined timer delay in the Q menu, it's just a click of the shutter and stand back. I found cables and especially the app adds a level of fiddling about just to get a shot off. The X-H1 has a very sensitive shutter button and it barely need a full press to engage the timer so possible camera shake is negligible. It is also my landscape shooter of choice.

  • @michaelt7320

    @michaelt7320

    Thanks for the reply, Ian. I'm all for keeping it simple! I agree that the app can take time to set up, especially if you have had two different bodies connected to it. My main use of it has been with bird photography, where I am hiding inside and the camera is near the birds. It allows a more intimate feel to the shots, but there is a often slight delay which, with wildlife, often means that you've missed the shot altogether! Look forward to seeing the new addition to your kit.
