Fuji X-H1 USER REVIEW

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This Fuji X-H1user review is based on my six months of using this lens quite a bit testing different Fuji lenses. I have found this camera quite a joy to use despite having purchased an X-T3 before acquiring it. There is a noticeable difference between the two cameras. The functions that the battery grip add to the X-H1 are now part of the X-T3 without the grip. It's still not a deal breaker as the IBIS makes up for the faults that it has. The IBIS is outstanding!

You can still have the Boost mode without vertical grip, however, you have to turn it on via menu, it's buried somewhere in the power management setting. All do that way the camera will burn thru the battery even faster. And while battery life IS terrible indeed compared to the competition, there are several ways you can save energy, I learned that the hard way back in the day with my X-T1. You can turn the camera off whenever you don't use it. It's that easy. Course whenever the camera is turned on it drains battery. X-H1 especially. Additionally, if you are frequent EVF user, on the "pentaprism" bump there's a "view mode" button. Keep pressing it until you reach "EVF ONLY + SENSOR" position. That way the monitor inside the EVF will work only when you are looking thru the camera (thus it won't drain the battery so much), while the LCD will be completely dead. Hope this helps, cheers...

Hi Tomislav, thanks for the great info. As with all the X series cameras there are numerous ways to save power. Boost mode with the grip is the only way to have access to certain features. Always great to have folks in the Fuji community add more info for others thanks again!

Enjoy your videos. My main kit is Canon and I also have a Pentax K1 for all my vintage glass. I've been eyeing Fuji for my main kit to lighten the kit for about 2 yrs now, the XT-4 almost has me convinced to go for it but I'm waiting to see what the XH-2 looks like. I mainly shoot landscape and nature and the Fuji 3 lens kit would be considerably lighter compared to the 3 lens kit that I'm carrying now.

Love the music Kirk. Was quite chilled out. Good samples. Have you tried the X-T4 yet? I love the X-T2, X-Pro 2 and especially the X-H1. BUT the X-T4 is quite special. The ibis even better than the X-H1 and gives the nice balance of the X-H1 with nearly as good a shutter feel, “nearly”. I upgraded my XxPro2/X-T3 kit to buy the 4 and was so glad I did. The finest camera I have ever handled in the Fuji range. The results are better with this body than anything used and tested before. Luv it. Keep up the great work. Gary

Hey Kirk man - I agree with all of your points and love your enthusiasm. I just love both of my H-1's and like you I have a grip on one and not on the other. I have my 90mm 'glued' onto one body and the 16-55 'strapped' to the other. they never come off and they are all the kit I need. I'm not a prime shooter and just the usefulness, practicality and sharpness of the 16-55 - it really is a bag of primes. I have never once used video so could care less about those features. It's a bit sad that the H1 never got the acceptance and kudos that it deserved. The bad release of the T3 so close stole a lot of the patronage that should have gone its way. Anyway - I don't care - just love my H1's and the image quality and usability still take my breath away.

@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I'm not even sure Kirk that I will go for the H2, really. I think it will have a 40 something mp sensor, which will make the files too big for me and my computer. Also, I know it will have that ridiculous flip out screen on the T4. If these are the case I will happily stick with my two H1's. They really are that great I see no reason to update them. Cheers

Thanks for your video Kirk. You have a beautiful local area in which to enjoy photography, and you provide highly valuable insight into hands on use of your Fuji gear. I bought an XH1 as an early 50th birthday gift for myself, when they were at a bargain price several months ago. I would have loved an XT4 but couldn’t justify the price, which was double that of the XH1. My wife nearly disowned me as it was! I have not yet used the camera (one week to go!), but have been concerned by continual reports of the superior sensor and autofocus of the XT3 & XT4. In real world use, do you feel that the XH1 is let down by it’s previous generation sensor or autofocus? I am coming from large DSLR use (7dii) so saw the XH1 as a good transition to mirrorless. I use my camera for minimal video use but love my stills photography.

  • @KirkWilliamsonphotography

Hi Nick- Never fear you will love it. Since you have not owned the xt3 or 4 you will not see any difference. The autofocus is still great. I also came from Canon and a 7dmk2 and would say the autofocus is not as fast but only for sports but by a small amount. For everything else you will love it. The sensor is still awesome.

Kirk Williamson Thankyou Kirk. I am looking forward to unwrapping the camera next weekend and getting out to shoot with it. I also got the battery grip to increase the battery life. Thanks Nivin! I love my X-T30 with the 23 on it for just out and around shooting it’s such a great little camera. The X-H1 is much larger and easier to hold. They are so different. If the ibis is important and ergonomics make sense to you then a switch may be in order. The only caveat is the battery life of the X-H1 is pretty bad without the grip only about 350 raw photos.

I notice my rear screen will, after a bit of time, get sluggish and start to freeze up until I half press the shutter to bring it back to speed. This is while just holding it in a room. I've adjusted many settings to minimize processing, like (it's in still mode and S) turning off eye/face detection, continous ibis, tracking, etc. I am not using the vertical grip yet. (Next month's check buys the pricey Fuji S batteries) Any experience with the rear screen lag?
