    I love the X-H1! I purchased mine the year it came out and I still use it to this very day! I do a lot of wedding work. I always wished that the auto-focus was better when I took photos but I love it for video especially since I manually pull focus with cine lenses. It was the first Fuji X-mount camera with IBIS, but i also wish it had 10-bit- but overall its a small hiccup for such a work horse of a camera.

I went from going out and trying to capture something, this elsuive special moment, to realizing that no matter the gear, when I am not there where interesting things are, nothing matters when it comes to gear. Also, the shift tfrom hoping to get something good to actually making something good happen occured. Id still love an xh2s but now I can actually answer what I need for what I want to do. I think this change is also because of your videos. Cheers mate 😊

    Oh I’m adding this! My main is a Fuji gfx. Fuji just adds so much soul. I sold my two Sonys and there was no looking back, I finally connected with a camera. I spent six months traveling using vintage lenses on my gfx, no ibis, all manual focus, and then I actually became a photographer, like, I understood how to take a picture, when I have to focus in and shoot steady, it slowed me down and brother your video makes all of the sense. With that said, I do want 4k so you helped me lol

    Had the XH2 in the shopping cart ready to buy as an upgrade for my H1. After thinking for a bit, got a used X-h1 w/flash and trigger and a buch of batteries and STILL had money to get a few lenses that I was missing and even then saved 400€. About the low light, I shoot concerts and we cant use flash. so 6400 is my base ISO and getting a 1.4 viltrox prime for 300€ will do a lot more than getting the BSI sensor from the XH2(s)... Will be rocking 2x XH1 for the next 3-5 years.

    X-H2s all day long (for me). Dynamic range in video, 4k@50p with no crop, and the bigger battery ARE worth it for me, as a Video first hybrid shooter, all of the other improvements are just bonuses. That being said - yes not everybody needs to upgrade. The difference between FHD and 4K might not be so obvious shooting interior (like your example), but shooting wide establishing shots with foliage for example, can show the lack of resolution. Last year I shot a wedding, and one of my favorite shots was a very wide push in towards the couple framed in very symetrical garden with greenery and roses, but since I shot on Sony A7IV at the time, and at 4k50 it crops, I had to shoot in FHD to get the framing I wanted. Long story short, I was super happy with everything, but that one shot I loved so much looked like it was shot on a 10 year old camera compared to the rest of the footage - it was mushy with great loss of detail. Keep in mind I had other shots in FHD, but they looked absolutely fine, because what was in the frame was much simpler. So yeah.. You might get away with FHD, but sometimes it shows big time! With all that in mind tho, if you are just starting out, should you get the X-H2s or X-H1? I'd say get the X-H1 and a couple of lenses for sure! Also don't sleep on it as a B cam to the X-H2s. PS: For those triggered that I switched from FF to APS-C - FF is not the end all and be all of cameras. Choose YOUR camera based on YOUR needs, not based on what others say its better.

    Appreciate your thoughts on the matter. I was expecting a bit more on the tech side of things though. Few thoughts just for your consideration - XH1 is a serious value proposition as it still has solid AF performance for the typical 90% of the routines out there. It is a bit rough for the wildlife even compared to the xh2 when you throw it on the 150-600mm. Same could be said about the sports photography as well, but I haven't has a chance to shoot it with the 200mm f2. I would say that it is absolutely perfect as a secondary body for those out there that need one in the bag. I made a jump from the canon ecosystem and 500mm f4 with 2x TC (1000mm f8 equivalent) with a 1dx2 performed not as good as the xh2 with the 150-600mm at 600mm f8 (almost 1000mm f8 equivalent) yet xh1 was a serious lag behind especially in the not ideal conditions (cloudy/rainy and later in the day dark). Overall going through your lens selection and type of stuff you shoot would've given a better understanding of why's and what's of where you're coming from. Thanks for the review though, cheers! :)

    @@sergiopstudio I can definitely see how it would be for a pro events photographer! I travel a lot, for hiking and doing landscape work when I usually just have a zoom the X-H1 is perfect, but then for cities when I stick on a smaller prime the body itself is a bit large and isn't enjoyable to have on me all the time, also then for events with family/friends/partners etc. it can also be quite cumbersome. I also got a film Leica M4 last year and love using the optical viewfinder on that so an X-Pro would definitely round off my kit for me.

    Little correction about the X-H1 and ni general the X-Trans III sensor: Because it's BSI doesn't mean that the sensor gets less dymanic range, or more noise. I mean looking at the differences between BSI and FSI sensors, it should. But in practice it's a bit of the opposite. The X-Trans II sensor is a smidge better than the X-Trans IV sensor at higher ISOs, and otherwise is identical (or you just won't be able to see the difference). That could sound like a pretty bad thing like saying newer cameras don't have better images than the old ones, but honestly, considering that they both get oustanding images anyway, that just means the older camera holds up really damn well, even today. The X-Trans III sensor was introduced in 2016 and still kicks ass in 2023, that's honestly pretty impressive. I picked up an X-H1 + the vertical grip and 3 batteries for 650€ at the begenning of the year. At that point, I have been shooting with an X-T2 for over a year. I knew that I liked the camera, but I knew that it was due for an upgrade, I wasn't really loving the wawy it handled (except with small lenses, or for travel. But I struggled a little with my event work whan it came to ergonomics). So instead of just getting and X-T3 or X-T4, which *would* be the logical upgrade path for an X-T2 owner, I made a list of points to looks at the things that I loved, things I was okay with, things I wasn't okay with but could deal with it, and the things that really pissed me off. I mean I dunno, I'm not a fountain of knowledge and I don't always make the right choices, maybe I went the wrong way? So basically the list did go like this: - I loved the colors and the overall output. Both for photos and videos, especially since that was the first camera I owned that could do very decent video with Log profiles etc - I loved some elements of the ergonomics, like the classic dials, the dual tilt screen, and the huge viewfinder. - I loved that the camera was rugged, weather sealed and had double SD slots. That's kind of a requirement for what I do. - I love the size and weight for travel and personal work - I'm totally okay with the lack of 4K60, I'm generally shooting 4K25 exclusively, and it did 1080p120 which was well over what I needed for slow-mo - I'm totally okay with the autofocus. As a dude that still shoots DSLR a lot, I'm used of doing the subject detection work for the camera and just use zone or tracking AF the way I want to. - Battery life is pretty poor but I can deal with it no problem - I can deal with the ergonomics of the grip but it's meh - The lack of stabilization prevents me from using my longer prime lenses in lower light situations, and the smaller grip doesn't help at all for stability. And then I realised that all the things that a camera like the X-T3 was doing was improving all the things I either loved or was okay with, and didn't do a thing about the things that actually bothered me. Looking at cameras in other systems was a bit out of the question as well, for a matter of cost. X-T4 and later cameras are really damn expensive. So The X-H1 ended up filling all the things that I wanted fixed, and kept all the things that I wanted to stay the same. The only part where it got worse is that it's quite a bit bigger than the X_T2, but since I kept the X-T2 for these occasions it's kind of a no-brainer. In the end, looking at the most recent cameras thinking that you can't do your work without the modern features is really the biggest problem with today's camera world. I really think that being able to put things back into their context is the most important skill a photographer/videographer can have when it comes to gear decisions. Anyway, really nice video, I 100% agree with most of the things you said. Subbed !

    thank you for your input! I learned a lot haha I'm not the most technical of photographers, I'm just a working 'tog that has people to see, and products to shoot :P How do you like the vertical grip, and is it worth it for battery life/improvements in your opinion?

  • @uncertainrelease

    @uncertainrelease

    Жыл бұрын

    @@sergiopstudio honestly, I would say the vertical grip is kind of a must have for a LOT of things that I do, for video especially. It doubles the record times, going up to 30 mins, I can power the camera off the wall with the AC adapter (was fortunate enough to have it included), and it helps dissipating a bit of the heat the camera is generating. If there is any instances of longer form video on a tripod with a wall outlet nearby, like interviews and such : 100% a no brainer. The battery life improvements are what you expect too : you can house 3 batteries instead of 1, so you get 3x as much battery life (or thereabouts). It's the difference between constantly looking at the battery level and not even thinking that I have batteries at all when doing event shoots for 8+ hours. 1 battery lasts around 1 hour for 4K24 video (sometimes a bit less if it's hot outside), so 3 hours of video shooting is still very respectable. Compared to the X-T2 that sips less power (lower end EVF, no IBIS and no top display, I measured a difference of about 10% in practice), I'd say that if there is ever a Fujifilm camera that would need the grip, it'd be the X-H1 And really it doesn't hurt that it really fits the camera well for ergonomics. I ended up never using the X-T2's vertical grip outside of video work because it's just not good for handling. I tested the X_T3's grip, it's a little better but still a bit underwhelming. X-H1's vertical grip though, really fills the hands and feels straight up like one of those Nikon full size flagship DSLRs. I have pretty big hands, and though the X-H1's grip is deep enough and allows for a very good hold, I sometimes have my pinkie hanging off, or on the verge of doing so, the grip just solves that issue while giving a much better fill of your palm. X-H1 without the grip is already a nice camera ergonomically, but with the grip it's straight up the most comfortable camera I own and use (and I still use a D700 and D2H from time to time, definitely some steep competition in my book) So uh, yeah I wrote a damn book about a vertical grip (again), but TL;DR it might be the one Fujifilm camera to really deserve to be used with its battery grip

    Same here ol Sergy' - for the medium format GFX heavy hitters - get this - In Oz, a local genuine Fuji outlet is letting their ex-demo GFX 50s Mk1 go for....$3500 Aussie cookies. Mint. Unused.That's right. $1000+ off RRP, because it is *outdated* and someone took it out of the box. Oh no..If I had the $coinage$ that senorita would be gone from the Internets..

    that's a good deal for sure! My only gripe with photo-specific cameras is that they all feel like a lateral move unless it has a 16bit sensor. If the 50s had the range, it would be a no-brainer for me.

    I bought the X-H1 as soon as it was released on the market in 2018, I had a love and hate relationship with it, but over time I learned to appreciate it more and more, especially after the X-H2 was presented on the market. Considering my style of photography, I don't need this higher speed and slightly improved autofocus, but I prefer the mechanical rings and the ability to use focus peaking more intuitively even with third-party manual lenses. Image quality hasn't improved much either. Meanwhile, Fujifilm continues to mistreat the X-H1 and no longer does firmware updates and has excluded it from the Xapp Camera Remote: After the automatic update on my phone, the X-H1 can no longer connect with it, buh! Now I can't find the possibility to reinstall the old version. I'm waiting for Fujifilm to make a real technological improvement (I admit it's working on it, but in too small steps), then I'll decide to take the jump.

    if it isn't broken, don't fix it right? Glad you're in your goldilocks zone - minus the app connectivity! I've never been one to use the bluetooth features myself. What would make up your perfect camera if you could design one today?

    @@sergiopstudio Perhaps I exaggerated in my statements, certainly the X-H1 needed a technological upgrade, what I contest is the new Fuji philosophy that is flattening towards competing brands. What distinguished Fuji until now is slowly disappearing, even the prices are quite in line, at this point a prosumer doesn't think too much about preferring for example a Sony A7iii, or rather A7iv, without having to wait for the promises of new firmware to improve (imperceptibly) the autofocus. As for the famous Fuji colors, just a few clicks in post-production and I get the same results. So, dear Fuji, retrace your steps!
