I've never understood why some Black people think that white people can just wash their hair quickly run a brush through it, and it will be perfectly styled. Have people not seen the rows and rows of hair products that are marketed to them? I'm old enough to remember when products for Black people only had one little corner of one shelf in the hair care aisle. All those other products were catered to white people. They have all kinds of sprays, serums, gels, conditioners, etc. that they use to get their desired styles. Not to mention all of the blow drying. I had white roommates in college and believe me, they don't just roll out of bed perfectly coiffed. That's why I hate it when Black people claim that our natural hair is so hard to manage. It's not hard at all once you learn how to maintain your own hair instead of trying to beat it into submission and force it to be something it's not naturally meant to be.

This! For years I was under the impression that only white people could style/ blow dry their hair in a matter of minutes and roll out the house, whilst I had to suffer blow drying and flat ironing my hair for hours. But after thirty damn years I’ve realised my close friend who is white also takes a while to heat style her hair. Also with the natural hair movement I had listened to women telling me not to wash more than three times a month/ once a month/once a week. And on this natural journey just ended up making me hate my natural hair. Flirted with the every other day washing here and there, loved the results but had so many naturals telling me it was bad for my hair so I stopped. But just constantly ended up with matted hair at the roots and no energy to spend a whole day on washing it. Genuinely thought there was something wrong with me. I even got to the point recently where I relaxed my beautiful curls after 7 years of being natural! Immediately regretting it just because I was tired of unmanageable hair. But I’m gunna push myself to go back to 3 times a week washing. Might even try the thinning see if It helps because I have a LOT of hair and it’s thin too. Any naturals had any experience thinning their hair? Sorry for the rant, needed to get it off my chest, and so happy there are fellow naturals that agree with what this lady is talking about.

Great video because it gives perspective. Black women think that we are supposed to be able to just wake up, get out the bed and leave the house without combing our hair. No race of women does that - EVERYONE combs their hair every day. The more glamorous the woman, the more she does. There are some women of other races who shampoo, condition, blow dry and flat iron their hair EVERYDAY. I have seen it with my own eyes. They spend about 1.5 hours each morning on their hair. It is horrific, for their fried hair, but my point is that you need to deal with your hair every day. You may need to arrange it in a cute way, you may need to moisturize it, you may need to wash it, you may need to retwist it, but you can't just wake up and go. My hair hates to be "left alone". Leaving my hair alone causes it to dry out and get tangled and matted. It loves to be washed and given attention. My hair is an attention whore. LOL.

Honestly, I see people complaining about our hair and it doesn't add up. How do hell can you keep braids in your hair for 1 month , heck 3 months and not turn into a greaseball but you're claiming people who have to wash their hair daily, brush it morning, noon and night and douse it in texturisinh sprays and whatnot have it easier? The grass always looks greener from the other side I guess

It's not the washing but the water. If your scalp is itchy, then wash it. But it's keeping your hair wet/moisturized that's the key. Our hair needs water or a steam treatment. If you spray/mist your hair it will thrive and grow.

I have very little shedding now since I started washing my hair every 2 days and detangling and conditioning every 2 days. I am washing my hair every 2 days, and using rice cream and oat cream based products weekly. I was told by a white stylist to wash frequently and spritz hair with hydration spray and all moisturizer to half of the hair strands and not the roots while hair is wet.

I think most naturals now wash their hair more frequently then when they were relaxed. I would also like to mention whtye ppl, and nonblack ppl in general, dont know how to do their hair, or any hair, like we think. Any little change is too much for them. They don't have proper techniques, which is why they thin it out. Some of them started using stuff like shea moisture, and it worked for them, because their own products isn't formulated for their hair, whereas the recent surge of black hair care products actually tries to help our hair. And usually, what black ppl create, not only benefits our ppl, but the world in general. Also, the shower cap in the shower trick, doesn't dry out my hair. I spray water on my hair, but on a shower cap, and shower. It creates a greenhouse effect, that my hair loves. Going natural made me fall in love with my hair, while simultaneously dealing with nonblack ppl's hair, made me realize other races of hair is not all that.

I was talking to my husband yesterday about hair on White people's heads. I thought that they could just wash and go and not use any products. I found out when I went to go visit a friend of mine and she had a ton of products out on the counter to do her hair and I asked her why do you use all that and she said my hair is coarse and it needs it. Looking at her hair I thought it was just straight and manageable but she had to do a work to get it to be manageable! Great video!

Love this video! I grew up in a black community around a white environment. All my friends were white and really there's no real big difference between how we should care for our and white people's hair. Especially when it comes to the hair washes. I know we don't suffer with high sebum production that will lead to oily hair, but the frequency we are so heavy handed with products and oils/butters, we should simply wash our hair more often. Of course I'm not talking about the hair texture or how we should comb our hair in a wet or dry stage. But most of the time we all do have the same hair problems just from a different perspective. I always wondered how white people could retain so much length in 6 months with regular cuts, everyday hair washes and hair dyes. Now that I wash my hair once a week and have even I moved to washing my hair every 3 - 4 days, I'm seeing such a big difference. I'm retaining more length than ever and my sec bc was in 2015. 😊❤️

I am a mix of European, Iroquois Indian, and Middle eastern. Because I have red hair and green eyes most people assume I am 100% European. I have 3a hair. I wash my hair every 10 days or so, and in between washes I use water, jojoba oil, coconut oil, Castor oil, and lavender. I add the water and oils to my hair and scalp every 2 days, massage them in really well, and brush my hair daily or sometimes every 2 days. I wash my hair with 3 raw eggs, and condition it with coconut water. I do a fermented rice water treatment every few months. My hair is natural, not dyed, chemicals never touch my hair, and I don't own a blow dryer, curling iron or straightener, but every few years I do straighten my hair. I only use cotton hair tyes I make myself, and sleep in a satin night cap. Because of excellent care, my hair grows 9 inches a year. It is thick, red, curly, and I will never thin it out. That is crazy!

I have friends of all colors. As a teenager when I was staying in Arizona with my dad I remember my friend of another color (White) told me that the curling iron could make my hair fall out if I misuse it because her hair started falling out from the curling iron. I think I was about 16 years old at the time. I am 50 now. When I was in my Byerly 26 was my friend during my internship let me know that ponytails cause your hair to start to break off when worn too tight or too often. Basically we can learn from all types of people, if their regimen is working for them that is good. What mrs. Mississippi showed me works for me as well as the way my mom took care of my hair when I was younger which is similar to mrs. Mississippi regiment my mother focused on the scalp

Yes, I use a comb. The hair breaks when it's dry. The frequent washing helps keep the hair moisturized; therefore, you will experience less breakage. The key is to find the right shampoo for your strands.

God gave me the idea to start washing my hair more frequently. I started washing my hair in my twists every 2-3 days and then putting coffee and clove water before sealing with a butter/grease and a massage and my hair has grown .5 to 1.5 inches across my head and it’s only been two weeks. I’m still in disbelief honestly. I had to rebraid my hair to make sure it was growth and not loosening😂 Although I will say that I also eat very healthy and do mild exercise so that plays a roll. I think it’s very possible for black hair to grow fast when we not only care for the hair from outside but inside as well. Maybe I’ll update after a month to see how much growth I have.

Yes I never knew how "dry" white ppls hair can be till I had to comb it one time. It can appear like a comb is just gonna go thru it but No, not that simple. I was tryin to just comb her hair and realized its a different texture feel than I thought and not as soft as I imagined it would be, it can be a bit rough like ours just looks different. I was going to need a brush or I was going to break a lot of it and she needed some moisture but I couldn't figure out what to use that wouldn't leave a too heavy build up at the same time so I know they catch it looking for products. Our products would actually be helpful if they chose a thinner water based one, they need it. They have alot of oily sebum too, so they need to shampoo a lot and so a good shampoo will always be important to them. Actually to us too, we need to get off of "conditioner love" which just hides the true condition of our hair under it and spend $$ on a good nutritive shampoo for our scalp and strands because a shampoo delivers more of the listed ingredients inside the hair strand than a conditioner but they don't tell you that, patents if we would read them do however!

@@lindywinthrop8260 Hi Lindy! For me that is any shampoo that is mostly natural and containing herbal oils/extracts. etc. and cleanses the scalp well. A few I use are Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Retention Shampoo w/Sea Kelp, fantastic product and I add essential oils and carrier oils of my choice to it. I also use Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioner Rose HIps for the jojoba and rose hip oil, is very luxurious and conditions like Aussie. Lastly for moisture and protein balance, I rotate using Chi Keritan Shampoo and Conditioner and I use Lumen Keritan Recovery Shampoo (minty). Black soap is really good for cleansing the scalp and you can melt it down and add extracts, oils whatever into a liquid and bottle it and wash your hair. Hope this helps!

Hi, your hair will not break off due wetting your hair every day (with only water)if you allow it to fully dry that day which should not take long if you don't have other products on your strands. If you use conditioner and/or other creamy products you may experience breakage because the creamy products hold on to the water. Let me know if this is helpful.

@@mrs.mississippi5035 yes it was helpful. What I started doing recently and that's because I have other issues of getting headaches that won't go away when I use products even if I use just oil.... So I've been doing hot oil treatments only and been washing it out with a diluted clarifying shampoo mainly on the scalp. Then sometimes if remnants of the shampoo gets left in my hair I'll have to dilute rubbing alcohol sometimes I use it straight on my scalp leave it in for about a minute or two and then wash it out with water. It never used to be that way but for years I have issues when I use hair products now I don't know what else to do. I've already been to the doctor and even got a CAT scan for the headache and buy me doing process of elimination I figured I would get them each time I put hair products in my hair. What about bantu knots? Would you do big jumbo twists all over with your natural hair instead of weave? Would you stretch your hair out and wear it down natural without straightening it - I think that would be pretty on you. Maybe you can do a heat free roller set with just water and grease. Or a maximum hydration method curly look. I don't want your hair to lay down smooth. I want your hair to be in its natural state. I don't see that enough out in the community. Maybe a large goddess braid or two in two with a middle part or a side part that goes into one or two long pigtails. I want to see what you do with all of that beautiful hair of yours.

Wow!! Some people will never truly listen! This is informative and not about color. My friend's daughter who is white wouldn't brush her hair properly because it hurt. It got so tangled up and the knots in it were so bad, it had to be chopped off. My daughter with very thick curly hair could not believe it because she thought her white friend could just go to sleep, wake up and go. Now my daughter wears her silk bonnet to bed happily and my friends daughter brushes, braids and wears a silk bonnet to bed. Hair is hair! Different textures, yes. But it all becomes a matted mess if not cared for, whether black or white! Thank you Mrs Mississippi for all the wonderful tips. The old way has always worked better.
