im spanish and when i was relaxing my hair my hair never grew. once i stopped relaxing and just twisted my hair with grease my hair started growing. washing hair frequently dried up my hair so deep condition and less heat worked for me. now my hair is long finally.

Hello MyNaturalMyChoice! Love the name!! I love me some Blue Magic Hair Grease....lol Back in the day when we use to get our hair "hot combed" with hair grease, heat damage wasn't an issue. That hot comb use to be smoking hot and our hair was "fried, dyed, and laid to the side"...lol I think it's because hair grease coats the hair strand and protects it. When placed on a wet scalp, it conditions the scalp and locks in moisture; as a result, causes hair growth. Let me know how your hair care regimen works out!

Our hair grows at the exact same rate of all the other Ethnicity's you mentioned. *That is a myth* The only difference is, that our hair is extremely curly/kinky from root to tip (shrinkage) *We* *also have the driest hair on the planet!* So with the hair we already have on our heads, *It must be continually moisturized* *in order to retain that length.* To keep the length as our hair grows out, *we need water and water based products only.* This is what OUR hair responds too. *We have been taught to* *run away from water but that is precisely what we need in* *order for it to flourish!* Black folks are THE only Race of people on earth where we *must have water* or water based products for our type of hair or it will continue to remain dry, brittle, and break. Eat right, drink plenty of water and you are hydrated from the inside out! No relaxers, or other chemicals, packed with a good conditioner and an oil or grease of our choice to seal in the moisture, will not fail in having our hair as long as we want it to be!

All hair grow out of our scalp follicle straight. Curls keep oil close to the scalp preventing it from traveling down the shaft. Think of throwing a bucket of oil down a straight slide verses a flight of stairs. We also have to realize that an inch of growth looks different when your hair coils on itself. its all about retaining your ends. People say genetics of hair growth differently. I disagree, I think it clearly affects retention. A looser curl will hold moisture from scalp oils better because its an easier journey to the ends. The problem with heat is that our hair is dryer by design. For those who like heat I would recommend flat ironing modestly and leaving your straight style in for at least two weeks. Massage your scalp often during this time to bring the sebum down your strands. Also use an oil moisturizer daily. Enough to mimic scalp natural production and account for moisture lost during heat styling. You will still have to tuck away your ends 99.9% of the time and deep condition every wash day.

When I transition I washed my hair every morning with some days with shampoo and other days only conditioner. I used to put my leave in conditioner in and up I go to work. My hair was so full and growing like crazy. Than people told me that I shouldn't wash my hair everyday, so I listened and my grew went down. So now I'm back being myself and wash my hair whenever I want to. If your scalp is dirty, it blocks the pores. If your hair is curly the sebum has a hard time coming down to the curls. So see 4 u self what works for u. For me it is to keep clean moisturized hair and leave it alone.

Beautiful hair and excellent video and I think you are on to something about the straight roots because it seems like it would make it easier for straight hair to push through the follicle BUT... our curly hair grows out of the scalp curly and unless you can straighten the hair that has not yet grown, how does straightening the grown hair help? Just thinking...

Hello Shaaron Evans! Great question! My belief is the same as you included in your comment. I believe that the hair is straight within the follicle; however, coils because of the shape/opening of the follicle (some oval, circle, etc.). I believe that we make our roots kinkier and collier than normal because of the products we use; the hair reacts to the chemicals and coils up tighter and prevents the hair from growing to it's potential. Try it out and see if it works. I suggest doing it the 7 days prior to the date the menstrual cycle begins due to the high hormone levels. Let me know if it works. Thanks for your comment!

But please keep in mind, I wash the grease out every 2 to 3 days, and never go pass 5 days. When you say thin hair, are you sreferring to individual strands or the amount of hair you have?

The only conditioners I will use is a liquid/spray conditioner (Infusium 23 Leave-In Conditioner) and I mainly focus applying it to my scalp. I then blow dry my hair, apply the grease to my scalp and roots, and then apply the heat. The video below may provide additional details. Hello Naturalista! In the video, I explained "my belief" of keeping my roots straight to experience fast hair growth. This is a technique that I have used for many years. The times that I didn't use heat, I would gel my hair down and then tie it down with a scarf to ensure the roots are kept straight. I'd leave it like that for about 5 to 7 days, and then when I would wash it, I would experience an inch or more of hair growth. Roller Sets also work well for keeping the roots straight also. Please be sure to check out my "How To Grow An Inch of Hair in A WeeK" video. Hope this was helpful. Thanks for your comment!

Hey there - here is something I heard regarding hair growth. Our hair is tightly curled close to the head not allowing the hair sometimes to push out (example - black men and beards, and razor bumps when they shave - very interesting show I saw on pbs years ago). Also not allowing air to get to the scalp, hence hair seems to grow faster with the perm or braids. As far as I understand all hair grows a the same within a month. I had really long hair with the perm (straighter hair and air gets to the roots). I know it's growing at the same pace because of the grays...lol. But because of the curls at the end of our hair, there is the breakage. Great videos 😊

Hello precious watson! Yeah, that's what "they" say.... Black people can wash their hair as often as any other race. We have to mindful of the products we use on our hair. A lot of products do more bad than good. Our hair needs moisture. I wash my hair often to keep my hair moisturized and my scalp clean. Thanks for your comment!

precious watson I wash my hair every 2 or 3 months. The last time I washed my hair was on April 21, 2018 and just washed it today which is July 13, 2018. And I have been doing that every since I became natural in 2011 and I cut my hair where that I was bald. And now my hair is hanging on my breast.

Curlykim D Hi! First let me say... the concept of this video is to suggest keeping the roots, soft, stretched, and conditioned. I recommend doing this only once a month and only the roots. How often do you wash your hair?

Curlykim D If you choose to follow this technique, I suggest once a month. I suggest the week prior to the week of your menustration. From my experience, This is the week the hair starts growing due to hormones. If you don’t want to apply so much heat to your hair/roots, you can just grease/oil your scalp and wear your hair in twists. The twists are good for keeping the roots stretched as well. Quick question... when you do your wash n go, what styling utensil do you use to define the curls? I’m asking because this may be the reason you are not retaining length.

@@mrs.mississippi5035 thanks for the advice, i do the wash n go pretty much every morning before i go to work, so Ido the co wash to get the previous days gel out and then re do it i used to try to keep the wash n go for 2 to 3 days, but i live in a humid climate and it gets crazy and frizzy looking. I use a leave in conditioner cantu brand and then use eco styler olive oil gel, and i never use a comb unless im staightening it. im not sure how my hair will look in twists i did it when I first big chopped, and it wasnt too cute, lol but maybe I will do a test run next weekend to see how it looks., I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some pointers. I have wanted to grow my hair long for years and, i am happy that its grown as much as it has, but id love really long hair.

Curlykim D You’re welcome! Co-washing your hair with the conditioner may be the culprit of not retaining as much length because conditioner does not wash out easily. And sometimes I feel like my head looks a hot mess with twists, but I know I’m on a mission. People treat me different when I wear my hair out and/or down...lol

Hello precious watson! Yes, i agree! Gel can contribute to FAST hair growth. Back in the day, I use to wash my hair, grease my scalp with blue magic while it was wet, and gel it down with Ampro Gel. My hair grew sooooo fast!!! But then of course, I'd cut it off to have the cute hairstyle. Thanks a bunch for your comment! :)
