    In the 70s, we didn't have any of these so called natural hair lines. Our community used grease and water for moisture and it worked. They used hot combs and had long hair. They also used afro sheen, which was overloaded with glycerin. Everything against what current natural hair community looks down on. I am going back to the past and see if it will work out for me.

    Got It! 👍 Rinse hair with very warm water to lift, soften and rinse the layers of grease from the hair. Then follow up with a shampoo, conditioning agent, and/ or hair grease. Hair grease helps the hair retain moisture, softens cuticles and prevents friction and knotting of the hair strains. Healthy Afro textured hair is actually hydrophilic. It has more of an affinity to oils than water. To much water, humectants, and humidity can damage our hair overtime. Our elders understood that. This is why in the past hair grease, fats from oils and animals were used as moisturizers. Moreover, people did not wash their hair often back then. Hair washing was done once a month or was prolonged to 3 months. They did not experience excessive breakage or hair issues we have today. In other words, hair grease helps the hair retain moisture and stops dryness until you are ready to wash your hair. Thanks for sharing! ☺️

    Like you, I also use grease. It has proven to be the best sealer for me. I usually wash my hair 1-3 times a week based on how dry my hair is. The experiment you did proved just how hard it is for water to penetrate hair already sealed by grease and this is why it's okay to wash your hair to put the moisture back and then seal it with grease. Its really simple just wash your hair. To thoroughy clean the hair. Saturate the hair with warm water add a small portion of shampoo to break up the grease .Shampoo is designed to disolve grease and grime. So rinse. Then add a liberal amount of shampoo. Wash and rinse well for clean hair. Add conditioner and a small portion of moisturizer on damp hair. Comb or brush for a well groomed look.

    God led me back to this. All of this wild mess about 50 products when we can literally SEE that our parents had long beautiful hair before hair care lines were what they are today. It was only grease and water. Shoot even the low/high porosity stuff, curly pattern and all that wasn’t a thing. I’m a youngin as people say but my mama used to have LONG butt length hair as a kid and she said once her mom introduced her to relaxers it was never the same. She did the same to me but I’m so glad to be doing my own hair now and I’m using THIS method for the rest of the time God has me here. Minimal hair care/maniupulation. Grease, water and a great clarifying shampoo and moisturizing shampoo. I’ll deep condition in and protein treatment when I feel my hair needs it!

    I newly subbed. Thank you for your detailed videos about grease and water only. Makes so much sense. When young blue magic ponytails kept our hair looking sensational. All your advice makes total sense. I was confident in Bluemagic and water only but confused about technique and you answered that for me. So even if I chose to rinse the grease off daily in my hot morning shower and reapply blue magic every morning that would be just fine. Or hot shower the blue magic off every two days and reapply that’s fine too. My only question is, what about my scalp. Do you massage your scalp daily? Do you grease your scalp or oil your scalp? How often? Do you take vitamin supplements? Do you use a Denman brush to smooth in the blue magic after the wash? Do you use a leave-in conditioner before the blue magic application? Are you heavy handed with the blue magic?

    Ok I just watched a ton of your videos and got answers. Ignore all those questions except this one……….I have a Denman brush that detangles my hair like magic. It even gives my tresses the most glorious look after putting in the heavy handed blue magic. Question: After I heave my hair fully saturated with water and tshirt dried. My tendency is to want to apply the blue magic the detangle that section then braid it up. Do you see anything wrong with that? I know you like to detangle with the shampoo bubbles and not after the blue magic, so that’s why I’m asking?

    I remember using that blue magic grease in my hair in hot hot humid summer day years ago, thinking it would deter swelling/puffing due to humidity. But it did not work, at all- my style was ruined within minutes! That blue magic has lanolin in it, a humectant, so I’m thinking it helped attract the humidity to my hair rather than repel it. But different greases in general never really worked to hold my styles, or help my hair repel humidity. Greases and butters don’t seem to have a good affinity for my hair- they just semi-coat it with a weak, loose barrier. The only oil I have found that properly seals and protects my hair is my sebum, so I just use the water only method. I’ve used it for the past 23 months and in that time my hair has grown from BSL to hip length. It’s strong, easy to manage, detangle, clumps well, and doesn’t shrink up itself. Split ends are very minimal. My hair is low porosity as well, predominantly type 4b, coarse, dense.

    @ Nondumiso Gasser It’s so simple it almost feels scandalous. I live in mini-twists almost 24/7 but I don’t use any products whatsoever. Everything I need to do with my hair, I do with a spray bottle filled with distilled water and my fingers. I carefully stritch my scalp before jumping into the shower and washing my hair and scalp whenever I want to. I use a shower filter on my shower head, but also do a final rinse with distilled water to further discourage mineral deposit buildup on my hair. I then gently squeeze out my my mini twists and put them in T-shirt for 10-30 minutes or so depending on what I need to do to get ready or around the house. After that I blow dry them on cool high speed. I usually will braid my twists into jumbo braids for a braid out after that. And that’s my wash day. I don’t moisturize or add water to my hair between wash days unless I’m trying to reshape my twists after sleeping or I do a braid out on my twists. I do sleep in a satin scarf. I redo my twists every 1-2 months with nothing but distilled water and my own sebum. The sebum holds and maintains the twists better than any product or gel or cream I’ve ever used. I wear a twistout just before redoing my twists too and trim at least every 2 months. My hair has grown and maintained so much health and length like this and always has a nice, fresh smell. It looks shiny and black and is very easy to detangle and manage. I get compliments frequently on my hair and get asked about what products I use, lol. They never believe me when I tell them I don’t use anything but water and my own natural oils. I only have a natural sulfate free shampoo and conditioner on standby in case of an emergency that would require cleansing with suds. But I don’t keep or use any oils or hair products whatsoever. And I have very thick, kinky type 4B hair lol. Natural hair can be very easy depending on your approach.

    I find this information fascinating. So, does this mean that pre-poo treatments will not work of you have a grease sealant from a previous style since nothing will penetrate? So I should instead focus on deep conditioning AFTER the shampoo and conditioning step? I wonder if henna treatment or Ethiopian butter treatment would still work as a pre-poo when you have grease on the hair... 🤔🤔

    I am with RitaMays on this!! What is your hair regimen??? How did you remoisturize your twists if you sealed them with grease (assuming that the current hair style in this video was for long term keep)? I started using grease on my scalp and hair and have noticed that my scalp itches a lot and have started shedding more hair than usual. Is this normal? Am I using to much grease or should just apply it my hair shafts alone?

    Stop greasing your scalp if you can't wash your hair more often. Watch cyn doll as she is a licensed cosmetologist hair scientist. Putting grease on the scalp suffocates the follicle and causes them to die. Your scalp needs air to breathe if you're going to grease your scalp do it right before you shampoo with a sulfate or apple cider vinegar(apple cider vinegar is stronger than a sulphate and can clean battery acid so be warned). Grease can be conditioning to the scalp if used correct.

    Is it possible that hair can reject grease?? I’ve been applying it going by ur regimen and I just feel like my texture has changed so much from when my mom used to grease my hair. I’m just seeing more hair shed and dryness than ever before. I don’t think my hair is receptive of this method but It saddens me because it could all be so SIMPLE FOR ME!! 😩 God bless you.

  • @mrs.mississippi5035

    @mrs.mississippi5035

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, Your hair is not rejecting the grease. The texture of your hair may feel different because it’s dry. With grease, when your hair dries it feels brittle or so. That’s why I recommend NOT manipulating it when it’s in that state. With conditioner and other products, the hair always feels soft. It’s not that the hair strands or texture is soft, you’re only feeling the product on your hair. Your hair is still dry underneath that conditioner/product. To prevent the shedding with grease, I rinse my hair with hot/warm water while in twists, put a bag over it for about 2 hours or more, and then proceed with my wash day. Be sure to check out my wash day routine video to see the process. When you wash your hair and the apply grease, you should not manipulate the hair anymore. Meaning... don’t try to re-style, comb, etc until the next wash day routine.

  • @mrs.mississippi5035

    @mrs.mississippi5035

    3 жыл бұрын

    Right, because the water is only sitting on top of the grease vs touching the hair strands. So like you said, it's just a waste of time. The baggy method can only be used right before you shampoo your hair. I don't recommend doing the baggy method and then wearing your hair in a style for the rest of the day because the grease and water layer is going to harden which can lead to breakage. The best way to remoisturize your hair is to wash it again. This is one reason why I wash my hair every 3 to 5 days....I'm basically remoisturizing my hair with the water. Let me know if you have additional questions.

    I'm really confused to how you can make a point on what grease and water does to the human hair to a bowl since you are putting grease on a life existence that interacts and receives anything differently than a object????......Water predominately hydrates, not moisturizes especially since water is affected by temperature and the chemistry of the environment. It's a reason many agree that it's not wise to use extremely hot water always. I'm sure it changes the hydration levels. That's why most people want to drink water, most preferably cold in the summer to balance back the hydration and water we can loose from the heat and the sun. I'm not trying to deflect just learning &trying to understand with what we know and experience.

If that still worries you in some way look for more options and different hair routines to lessen the use of shampoo overall.

    Hot / warm water opens the cuticles for low porosity hair that allows moisture into the strand. It is scientifically proven that you need warm water to cleanse the hair. Cosmetologists use it all the time on the hair.
