Biracial has nothing to do with it, and I hate the fact people think you need to have a drop of "something else" to have long hair. I've been natural my entire life and some of non-black friends have asked me for hair advice, and I'm not going to lie I thought it was odd... at first. Regardless of race though natural, thick, healthy, long, shiny hair is something that all women want across races. Some of the most beautiful hair I've seen came from unambiguous black women... no lie. Water it, wash it, oil it, love it and it will grow beautiful!

I have a Caucasian colleague who's hair refuses to grow beyond shoulder length. Ole girl literally wears extensions despite having naturally wavy hair. She straightens it every morning and always has split ends even though she trims regularly. So bad hair can happen accross the spectrum. Some hair (e.g. naturally straight hair) maybe less susceptible to breakage, but look at how short the hair on Asians who bleach their hair IS.

@@charlolay This is not true for All, some Blacks people have a 2 year phase of growth. The easiest way to tell years of growth is with colored hair to the scalp, then you can see how much growth a person has before it Naturally sheds. Just as our eyebrows is programmed to grow a certain length before it sheds, some blacks, hair grows only to a certain length. My hair has about four different textures, with their own personality. As well I assist others who have shorter growth stages etc I am mid back length, with layered hair because my hair grows from 3/8 inch a month to 3/4 inch a month in different areas.

I used to have this type of mentality growing up because as far as I remember my hair was always shoulder length, even with a relaxer. Sometimes it was a little longer, but it either always broke off back to or was trimmed back to shoulder length. Four and half years later my hair is grazing mid-back length. I may have a lil Irish and Native American in me but I'm not mixed, lol. The more black people understand that it's all about having good length retention the better. 😊💗

You are mixed!! Black is not an ethnicity!!! That’s exactly what mixed is. Black or white is a social construct has zero to do with who or what you are genetically. We really need to get more familiar with science, biology. We need to research/study to really get this from a point of fact and not emotion and old American folktales and Jim crow bs. The color of your skin is the presence of melanin. Nowhere else in the world but America when you’re asked what are you the answer is black or white lol!! It’s silly because it’s clear what color skin you have if you’re not blind is what someone told me when I lived in Germany. No one refers to themselves as a color because that makes no sense!!!

I know I may catch a lot of heat for this comment, but here it goes: CardiB's parents are two white Dominicans, CardiB may have black in her bloodline, but that doesn't make her mixed, just like a black American isn't considered whyte just because we have whyte in our bloodline. The natural hair movement was created BY and FOR BLACK ppl, specifically black women. Other races, and biracial ppl, can learn about their hair because of this movement, but it wasn't created with them in mind. Basically idk why and when CardiB, and other nonblack ppl became the spokesperson of natural hair.🤷🏿‍♀️ Most of the ppl quickly calling nonblack, and biracial ppl "natural", be the same bw who discouraged bw from going natural when the movement first started, and/or had a breakdown at the thought of going natural themselves as a bw. No shade to you Mrs. Mississippi, I'm speaking on the black community in general, and what I've noticed on and offline regarding our community

Hi! I didn't take offense. I found the post interesting. But Chilllle, if Cardi B says she is mixed with Black, so be it. I don't think race/ethnicity/etc. should be used to define "natural hair". I define natural hair as the hair that grows out of your head which has not been chemically treated.

@@mrs.mississippi5035 But that's what the natural hair movement stemmed from...it's intertwined with race. Let me ask you this: Do you think if biracial, and/or nonblack women started a curly hair movement before bw started the natural hair movement, that we, as bw, would've been able to ingratiate ourselves into their space/movement? They would let us know that we are all types of "nappy headed" etc, and their movement doesn't apply to us.. to be honest most of us black women would've never even thought to include ourselves in a movement about "biracial/nonblack hair " no matter the hair type, out of respect for their hair, and lack of confidence in our own hair as black ppl back then.

Keep in mind white people, Indian people, Asian people, Hispanic people, etc. use chemicals in their hair as well. People with straighter hair experience less breakage & retain more length. Also, Some Races do experience Faster & Longer hair growth. For instance, According to Google, Asians have the fastest hair growth rate, and Caucasian hair grows slightly faster than African hair. Just by observation, We can SEE that long hair is MUCH MORE PREVALENT in Non Black Races. As a Black American Natural with the MOST KINKY hair texture, I have grown my hair to hip length, so I KNOW from experience that Blacks CAN grow hair as long as we want🎯 But comparing our hair to other Races, or even to Bi-Racials is NOT ADVISABLE, in my opinion🤷 I'm NOT saying anyone did that. This is what happens when people don’t have any knowledge of African root. I don’t know where people have the idea of black people’s hair not being able to be long. 100% black doesn’t mean short hair. In most African countries there are policies in schools that girls have to cut their hair really short to prevent them from focusing on their hair instead of studying. As stupid as it sounds, we were forced to cut our hair. Black or white, 100% black or mixed, every body’s hair grow and can grow very long when maintained. Growing up my hair was long until I started putting products and mess it up. It still grow until I put relaxer.

It’s because the one drop rule was a social construct. It has zero to do with your actual bloodline/ lineage. Travel the world, explore, read!! It’s only in the Americas where we refer to people as black, white or mixed. Ask someone from UK what are they and they’ll list Ivorian, Jamaican, Russian, half Jamaican half Norwegian etc… black or white is never an answer because duh we can see what color your skin is if we have vision. The color of your skin is melanin full stop and this has nothing to do with whether you’re mixed or biracial or not. You can be darker than Lupita and be mixed or biracial. You can be whiter like Britney Spears and be mixed or biracial. You can have an afro, wavy, curly, coily, straight etc. and be white, black or mixed has nothing to do with the color of your skin: it’s your bloodline/ lineage that determines all of the features we have not the color of your skin that determines who’s considered black, white, mixed whatever.

I don’t know why people are saying she’s not black. Her father is Dominican and her mother is Afro Trinidadian. Both nationalities are from the black race, they just got dropped off the boat in different countries. That’s like me saying my son isn’t black because his father is Trinidadian. I’m black with type 4b/4c hair, big chopped in 2018 and my hair is almost in the middle of my back.

Hi mrs Mississippi I was wondering if you can help me with this. My hair has been growing long now but I had a setback when I found out my hair was shedding and breaking a lot. I realised the ends of my hair are literally full of single strand knots and split ends I don’t want to cut off my progress of retaining my hair length but I also do know that I can’t grow long hair if it’s not healthy. I would love your opinion if you have time I’m 16 and I just want to achieve really long hair like your beautiful daughters.

I've come to learn that _"kinky black hair"_ doesn't grow slower than any other racial group, but their hair definitely retains length easier. Black hair retains length very easy when we make sure our hair gets protein and nutrients. That's it, plain and simple.

Just IMO 4c hair is so fragile. it is harder for us 4c people to retain length. With and these weak points the twists and turns we can't enjoy our hair like others can before it gets to a good length. for years we have to practically be slaves to our hair. hiding it away it's just annoying it take too many years to get to certain lengths

Curious, Why is wearing your hair out your definition of enjoyment? On a related note, I see it as White people having to use sunscreen, whilst black people can forget, or not even use it at all. Sure they can go out the house like other races, but if they want healthy skin then no.

And what a real stupid/ignorant remark some would say you have good hair bc you're mixed, the melanated have the most manageable hair you can do a lot with ,notice how our hair grows up to the sky wich actually is centered with the universe if it makes sence,to me it does. No matter what anyone say they hair grow faster with little to no effort. depending on your hair type determine how much you gotta do to it ✌🏾

@@TaylorM it has nothing to do with how they take care of nothing. Many don't have no special nothing .. Many of u don't want to heae the truth. Their hair isn't the same and it takes almost nothing to retain lengths because genetics plays a role in regards to the hair types u get. When they chose products it's to stop, dandruff, style and hold stuff.. it doesn't get complicated.. their hair dry most will not break, it gets greasyh without much grade and then their hair gets heavy and dance and lomp .. still be growing... Some hair types retain lengths better than others and what u all keep missing is if u don't have a long growth phase combine with speed of growth your hair usually won't get long. And all three factors.. growth phase, hair type and speed is determines by genetics... other factors may affect it but the fact is what it is. Cardi b mix. And the mix her hair mix with is the type of hair that doesn't break easily. And that's what it is.

I used the words “bad hair” and “unmanageable” to provide words that people say, call it, or perceive. I am disappointed in you that you didn’t listen a little bit harder to comprehend that. Did you not hear me reference the importance of knowing the techniques. To break the concept of the video down for you… All hair is good hair, it’s just a matter of learning the techniques to take care of the hair. Simple as that!! I assume you get disappointed a lot when things aren’t said the specific and only way you can understand. Regarding “kinky”, you understand the word in the negative manner your brain allows you to.
