Been doing this for a year! Every other day: olive oil prepoo for an hour, head and shoulders eucalyptus 2 in 1, mane and tail herbal gro conditioner. I then apply carefree curl activator and airdry. I finger comb underwater before I apply the 2 in 1. Hair grew 14 inches in a year :)

I’m so so glad you asked if people actually tried washing their hair to know instead of just repeating what they heard. When I was relaxed, someone told me to wash and set my hair 3 times a week and don’t use grease. My hair growth and thickness took off. Now that I’m natural I try to wash a couple times a week. My hair sheds much less washing more often.

Thank you for your video. About 6-7 years ago, I would rinse my hair in the shower, moisturize (LCO method) and let it hair dry after my big chop because my hair was so short. Once a week I would use shampoo and condition. It grew so fast. I gained 5-6 inches that year (even with 2 trims that year). Once I started doing twistouts and braidouts every week and only washing 1x a week, my hair did not retain nearly as much length as rinsing it daily. I've been rinsing it again since Dec 2021 so only 2 months so far, and my hair is loving it! I wish I never stopped doing this. This is my main regimen. I'll do braidouts and twistouts probably every few months for a week just to switch things up. I don't like how black women are told that we shouldn't wash or wet our hair every day in the shower. I used to think that and that's probably the reason why I stopped 7 years ago. I feel like as black women are really holding ourselves back from what we want for our hair. A lot of us want growth or less itchy scalp and we're not getting it because we are watching what everyone else is doing. I have heard people say that we are "acting white" by doing this and I don't understand that because everyone needs water. A lot of us want to just hide our hair and oil our scalp and think that it's helping but we've been doing it for 10+ years and we are still at the same length with the same scalp issues. I used to have itchy scalp in the past because I would only wash my hair 1x a week and I don't have that problem anymore. I wish all black women would do this especially those who have problems with growth because washing my hair 1x a week was not enough for me to see growth even though I would rebraid and retwist at night. My hair actually gets moisturized when I drench it in the shower and then apply products. It does not feel as moisturized when I spray some water on it and then apply products. If your just spraying water and then applying products multiple times a week, over time, the hair is getting buildup and the water cannot get to the hair. Also, wetting it in the shower clears the scalp of debris, removes some product for more water to get in, and it promotes circulation so I can totally understand why I and other people who have been doing this have seen better scalp conditions and more growth.

I wash my hair twice a week as I work out. Newsflash my hair picked up speed and began to grow well beyond an inch a month which is my usual. Over six months 8 inches of growth. Perhaps when the scalp gets a chance to detox, the roots are stronger. It is doing a detox without the formal term. Your method works and it is true you need not have a wash day but wash hour. Hair likes to be clean or more accurately your scalp loves being clean. No dandruff, nothing.

I recently posted about this in 3 groups on FB and they have been giving me a strong disagreement...lol. I started to work out and my scalp wasn't having it so I moved from 2-3 weeks washing to once a week and my hair has never felt this better. I also decided to do this because the group owner of one of these groups mentioned it and included it in her 30 days hair growth method, suffice to say, people ate her raw. People talk about stripping the sebum and hair dryness if you wash too often but I say, our tight coils doesn't even let the sebum move past the scalp except you keep your hair stretched and sebum is able to move down the length by you doing a scoop and spread. So this sebum we are trying to protect is actually just sitting on the scalp, build up, dry and everything begins to flake (my logic...lol). The once weekly I currently do makes me feel like putting back moisture before the previous moisture expires. My hair no longer feels dry, less tangles, less breakage. And scalp is not dry, my hair has more movement. And I discover the more you do this the lesser time your washday becomes.

I keep smoothing and raking til my curls clump. I do the hydration method. For me it's a godsend and restored my curl definition. When I do a more drying gel, I put some oil on before these steps. Give it a try next time you clarify, I swear by it.

I am anemic and started losing my hair due to thinning. I came across two stylist called cutitkinky and it resulted in me no longer using oils and butters in my hair. Changed my hair for the good and my hair is now thick and healthy again. I guess less really is more.

I recently stopped two week protective styling (in African threading) and started co washing my hair in twists every few days in between shampooing. My hair feels moist, almost tangle free, is not brittle (I have fine hair that snaps easily), and is more or less flake free (I have seborrheic dermatitis). Reminds me of when I first went natural and I could wet my twa every day. It’s too soon to say if I’m retaining more length though.

You're such an inspiration. I myself am high porosity so for me washing every week is a max. But with that being said I really do want and need to get out of my comfort zone and try some things. Like I still haven't even tried that color paint wax stuff. I want to get a protective style with extra hair not my usual shades (1b/4) maybe try some version of blonde and get some neat box braids with those. So many things 🙂 And believe it or not...I've never even worn my own hair in a wng. I do see my curl pattern but with my dry hair I'm like just 😬😖😖 But sometime in the spring time I wanna definitely do one and see how it lasts me.

I don't wash my hair as often, but I've definitely found that soaking my hair with water helps with moisture retention I wash my hair every 2 weeks and rinse it with water between washes (1-3 times a week) and put a light oil after rinsing. I don't do a thorough detangling session, but only remove some of the shed hair that come out naturally when rinsing. I also don't wear my hair out and keep it stretched at all times. I experience less dryness, breakage and tangles and I've also found that my wash days (when I do a real detangling session) don't last as long because my hair is less dirty and less tangled.

But your hair looks different to me. Normally it looks fluffy like a good twist out. Now it looks small, like my high porosity, fine strand, 4c stringiness, except that it does look moisturized and soft, unlike mine. I’m not sure that was good for your hair.
