What It’s Like Living On-Campus Your Freshman Year | University of Washington

Ойын-сауық

Hi everyone! Here’s my opinions of all the residence halls at UW. These are PERSONAL opinions based on my PERSONAL experience. My opinions are by no means shared by everyone living on-campus at UW so keep that in mind.
Disclaimer: There are a lot of factors that go into choosing a dorm. One of them that I did not mention in this video is cost. A lot of the newer dorms on North Campus and the West Campus dorms are more costly than some of the other options. Keep this in mind when choosing your dorm as well.
Comment down below any questions you may have or what other videos you’d like to see next!
Xoxo,
Jess

    I just hate the McMahon slander like bruh Best value for the money Most Social dorm Best located dorm (closest dorm to most classes+IMA) Best events/best Hall council Cluster living space is a great place to hang out Only dorm with balconies! With views of the skyline on upper floors Only dorm with basketball court Only dorm with exercise room Formerly housed the north campus dining hall and convenience store (REST IN PEACE NOOK AND 8) Closest Dorm to U Village If you’re on a budget McMahon is the spot I don’t wanna hear it 😒😒😒

    I haven’t personally lived in McMahon so I appreciate your input about the pros of living there! I would also like to mention that I forgot to talk about cost in the video and do agree that this is an important factor to consider when choosing a dorm, which is part of the reason why I’m choosing to live off-campus next year. As a disclaimer, I don’t think that any of the residence halls are really that bad (despite the somewhat blunt remarks I said in the video). I was just trying to share where I personally would prefer to live on campus. Again, thanks for the more detailed explanation about McMahon, and I apologize if any of my statements about this residence hall have offended you!

    As an Oak Hall resident, living in a triple dorm, my main issue besides lack of storage space and tall lofted beds is the fricking sink water pressure. It's so light! I literally have to wait for it to fill up my hands and it takes so long to wash my face or brush my teeth lol. That's my main concern there.

    Do we have to learn a lot in college or we can score well in exams by just understanding the topics?

  • @jessicastarsinspace2563

    @jessicastarsinspace2563

    Uh not sure what you mean by that because understanding the topics is learning..? I can’t speak for every college, but at the University of Washington, the exams are extremely difficult (depending on the class). You need to put in the work. Sometimes classes are curved so it benefits you to do better than the average.

    Hi! Perspective freshman student here for 22-23. What are your thoughts about living off campus? Is it more affordable? I already have someone who is willing to room with me but im worried about saftey and rent prices. Do you have any thoughts?

    Hey Ava! AHH you’ll be at UW during my final year there! I lived on-campus my freshman year, lived at home my second year, and now I live off-campus in an apartment with a few roommates. I personally like living off-campus more, but safety is definitely a big issue where I live. For me, rent has been cheaper living off-campus than living in the dorms, but that kinda all depends on the situation (e.g. having a lot of roommates to lower cost) and the quality of the place you’re moving to (e.g. location and other factors). Sometimes you’ll find that living off-campus is more expensive, or sometimes it’s cheaper: it depends! This is a great question though, and I’ll definitely make a video on it sometime this week so I can expand more!

    Hi Jessica! I just love ur videos and they’re helpful! I have one question: if I bring my car with me, is that a good choice for live on campus or live out of campus? Thank you so much for your response!

    Hey! Thank you so much for watching❤️ If you’re living on-campus, you definitely don’t need a car (everything is within walking distance). You also don’t need a car in general because UW students have the UPass which means you can just scan your Husky ID without paying additional fees each time you use the bus! If you really want to bring your car, I’d say it’s most helpful living off-campus; however, you might have a hard time parking and usually you have to pay for parking as well. In my opinion, it’s not worth it to bring a car, but totally up to you (and depends on if you think you’ll be using it a lot)! Hope that helps!

    @@jessicastarsinspace2563 Hi Jessica! I know it’s a year later but I had the same question. I live less than 2 hours away and have my girlfriend going to Western. With that being said, would you still say that it’s not worth bringing a car if I plan on visiting her a few times a month? Also, how far does the Upass extend?
