Transports vs Footslogging for Black Templars

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in getting the next video out! Been quite busy with stuff. On today's video we are talking about the pros and cons of transports vs footslogging and what units should go in a transport and what units may not need one.

One thing to keep in mind regarding Bladeguard needing a transport - it's a good chance they'll be 3-6 in a unit at least. Only units limited to 3 that I can think of are eliminators and the gundam gun jumpers, and those are support units.

Hi, I'm new to 40k and I wanted to start with the Black Templar as my forst army, but it's so hard to find a transport for the Primaris. No Rhino or Land Raider Crusaders. Only Impulsor for a 6 man Squad or a 315!!! points Repulsor for a 10 man squad 🤯

How would you recommend to run your Impulsor now that the Shield Dome only gives a 5++? Is it still worth taking over another option?

I agree with most of these points. In my experience transports are just not worth the points investment. Most are way too over costed for what they bring to the table, and the points would be better spent for more boots on the ground. With the advent of concealed positions, and the ability for some units to deep strike, transports are almost redundant. I'd say one of the few exceptions is the impulsor, and this is mainly because of it's assault vehicle rule combined with devout push. I actually tried this for the first time in a game on Tuesday, and the distance that can be covered using this combo is absurd, and you're all but guaranteed a first turn charge. My only argument would be the shield dome, while the 4++ is nice, it isn't really needed. You can hide the Impulsor behind LOS restricting terrain, and simply hop over it during your move and disembark your contents (typically in the same turn) so I feel it is better to arm it with an up gun to provide fire support for the blade guard coming out of it (because you are using this with blade guard right?).

Man, I tell you...I have heard only success stories with the Bladeguard combo (including myself). This is one place where a transport makes our lists better. I am also finding myself cutting the shield dome when extra points are needed. Alex would disagree though, as he has needed it in his games. ~Marshal Laeroth~

@@ImplausibleNature I think the reliance on the shield dome is going to be determined a lot by your local meta, and how you play. With how easy it can be (at least for me and our table set ups) to reliably deploy behind LOS blocking terrain, I simply don't see the need for the 4++. More shooting however, I'll take that.

The shield dome came in handy last game. After my bladeguard got out it helped my impulsor survive the rest of the game tanking damage that would have killed it twice over while it sat on an objective

Anthony N I always bring the shield domes... 4++ is a solid invulnerable save and can be a game changer. Also is not always possible to hide them all first turn.

Could you guys do a video discussing the pros and cons of primaris in the army and if its likely to be worth taking first borne given the latest updates?

I thought the reason the land raider has front doors was because you were allowed to charge from the vehicle after it moved. I think you should be allowed to charge from a vehicle after it moves.

Would you still take grav-cannons over muti-meltas for drop pod devs?

Yes, the new MM has a higher damage output ceiling, but they have a shorter range to get that minimum damage meaning its easier for your opponent to screen you out of melta range and they are less versatile because their damage potential is wasted on elite infantry

You can charge if you disembark but you can’t disembark if you moved. Is that what you meant??? Please clarify.

The Impulsor allows you to disembark after moving but you cannot charge if it moved. Only if the transport was stationary can you charge.
