Honestly, I think Templars are stealth good in 9th. I love that Grimaldus no longer has the MoS keyword, but can still take 2 additional litanies. 2 Chaplains popping 2 litanies each per turn is crazy good.

+Anthony N I usually find myself leaving Grimaldus out of lists, just because I can't attach a Breviary or Wise Orator onto him. Litanies of Hate and Litany of Divine Protection are so powerful, I'd rather ensure that they always activate rather then get one more litany. We have an especially good combo I've found with Assault Intercessors. Put a blob of 10 of them behind a Master of Sanctity, Wise Orator, Litany of Divine Protection, Fires of Devotion, The Aurillian Shroud. That Assault Intercessor Squad has a 4++ for one turn, a 5+++ always, and a 2 cp stratagem to make them 1-3s not wound them. Spend another stratagem to let them fight again, at the end of the charge phase, and you have 5*10*2+2=102 chainsword swings, if you somehow take no casualties moving in. All rerolling hits thanks to the Chaplain Or, you can throw the Sword of Judgement on the Sword Brother/Sgt, and get 10 S5 ap-3 damage 3 swings at the enemy. At 195 points for the Intercessors, and 120 points for the Primaris Master of Sanctity, that's not a bad choice.

I guess the key to using melta bombs is the paired combatants rule, the Neophyte can reroll 1s to hit, which makes it quite good I think. Thanks for the review!

When it comes to the new Crusader Squads, what loadout would you have with them? For example just 1 SB, 8 Initiates and 1 neophyte with basic bolters or would you include heavy/special weapons making them shooting back field objective holders?

Also 5 man squad with heavy weapon!

I'm just as excited about Crusader squads as you guys. Question, do you think the Sword of Judgement is worth taking on a Bladeguard Veteran Sergeant? I'm thinking about how do I get that sword to stick around in combat for as long as possible.

In my opinion? No. I would rather upgrade the Dmg 1 power swords to a psuedo thunderhammer.

@@ImplausibleNature What power sword wielding model are you thinking is the best carrier? Depending on the model, a Thunder Hammer can carry a different cost. For example, a Thunder Hammer is 20 points for an Assault Intercessor Sergeant. I'm not sure 15 points for a command point is a good trade. That model can just take a thunder hammer.

@@ultimentra I meant I would use it on sgts who can select the 5 point power sword. That could be Vanguard Vets, Company Vets, Intercessors, Tactical Terminators, etc. Mostly the first two though.

I know that its clear what the intent is on Emperor's will, but technically speaking the wording is not any more deterministic now than it was before. Not that it really matters, but a much better wording would be along the lines of "This advance does not prevent the chosen unit from charging this phase"

I bought mine literally hours before discovering the Index/FAQ. It was already a lot of expense for a little content but this was a total waste. And the GW guy who knew I was buying it solely for the BT stuff didn't say a word to dissuade me.

Are we able to take Crusader squads in BT successors? Like DW squads in DA or are they chapter locked?

Well, technically...they are chapter locked. But I think you would be hard pressed to find a player who would fight you on using the BT rules for your homebrew chapter.

I wonder if we will get Knights of Sigismund back.. I dont really understand why they put time/money into printing sword bretheren detachment, developing the Knights of Sigismund doctrine, etc. only to scrap them over the next 12 months.

This is the free PDF Index released alongside other Chapters' updated rules on early October following release of Codex SM. It is already out but not easily available on Warhammer Community website for some reason.
