Thank you, Kirk. I have "binge watched" washing machine videos for 3 days now. Mostly yours, but others as well. I started out wanting a SQ, but some of the videos scared me off. After watching several for other brands, I came back to your SQ vids and am certain that when my 23 yr old, much loved Kenmore 80 Series machines pass on I will get a set of SQ's. I am on my 2nd set of Kenmores. The first set lasted 23 or so years as well, but I don't think I have faith in the new ones. Thank you, again.

I have to say, as we own this machine, it does a great job on even heavily soiled things. It's not so great at removing stains, but it is super gentle on fabrics. As long as you pre treat stuff, and use the right cycles, it does a fantastic job! Auto fill tends to get the water level just right for optimal cleaning, it doesn't usually use too little water, and overall it's a great machine, well worth the money. Ours has only ever gone off balance once, and it was easily determined why, as it had been loaded incorrectly. The only gripe I have is it doesn't spin things nearly as well as I'd like. Stuff usually takes longer in the dryer than some of our past washers, but it's not a big enough difference that I'd really complain too much about it.

I am just a regular guy who is watching reviews of washing machines because I need to replace our old one. It strikes me that there are a few people that seem to seek out every post about Speed Queen's to rip them, while almost everyone else says good things. Something fishy going on here for sure. Thanks for posting this video, seeing real world performance is more helpful than anything.

Buy it with confidence. It's a great washer. The people who post those "fishy" type of comments will not last long on the channel. Negative comments are okay especially when the viewer sounds sincere. The people making mean comments will get booted. One of my favorite negative comments is when a viewer said " the only thing this washer will agitate is the owner" I loved that comment even though I did not agree with it. But people who use foul language and things of that nature will get kicked off the channel if I catch them. Take care and thanks for your comment.

It has been two weeks now, zero problems at all. The machine does a great job with stains, we have had nothing but positive experience. So glad I didnt listen to that few people who trashed it from the start. Makes me wonder what was in it for them? Very happy consumer here, and love the 7 year warranty!

This was a true test of the new machine's capability washing heavily soiled clothes and the results speak for themselves. However it would have been interesting to see the results of having the P4 cycle run in its entirety with auto water level and the presoak. This P4 is an unusually long cycle but this is not a typical wash load, what's important is the load came out surprisingly clean despite the ground in dirt.

I own this washer. Im also a Farmer with lots of dirty jeans. As long as you keep it to Max 5 jeans and pre-treat stains it works really well. I always use max water level because I find that using auto fill uses too little water. But overall very happy with this washer. I have owned numerous LG, Samsung and whirlpool top loaders in the past and they are all crap compared to this unless you want to send them in for repairs every 2 years.

They look clean to me that cycle did the trick. It’s not any longer than those other HE washers you tested maybe even shorter. Plus keep in mind that most people on very dirty stains pretreat a very bad stain, you didn’t do that and the result was more than acceptable. I’m definitely impressed.

Sandy you are very welcome, If you let it soak too long (overnight) the pressure switch will bleed and the machine will think it has no water in the tub. It will try to fill again and may cause a problem. If you accidentally soak overnight just be sure to drain first before restarting.

I have to say I am somewhat more impressed! I didn't realize it had this special cycle options - I don't see the difference between this super soiled cycle and heavy duty! I still feel instead of spending all this money speed queen did to design this they could have added a auto fill option to the older model! I also still think a better style agitator would still give a decent turnover! My Opinion has changed a bit about this washing performance however for the $ of this I would still recommend a customer to save their money and get the maytag or other! To me this is not a copy of a old style top load like the previous model and that is what people wanted. And what I don't really don't understand their is no energy saving because it seems to use more water?? Kirk thank you for posting it is much appreciated!

Well I will have to say I was impressed. Sure it takes longer because of the agitation type. But it cleaned ground in dirt very well. This was the video I wanted to see about this machine. Others have done some tests on some very tough stains like pressed in Ketchup which this machine did a fair job but not as good as the previous model. Then again it could have been the wrong cycle as well and maybe not enough detergent during this test.

Agitub washers like this one need as I said on another clip, some kind of vertical fins mounted to the inner wall of the wash tub. This machine did a good job here..but only good..the tub is what generates the agitation, not the agitator. In fact when the machine spins while agitating, the clothes and water move away from the center toward the wall. Vertical fins here would create roll over and wash results far better than it is now.

Speed queen's new slogan should be, "A premium clean with TLC". It's obvious that this washer isn't beating the fibers out of them. Wouldn't you want your clothes to get TLC while getting clean? I would. Most mainstream brands will severly damage your clothes (or have the potential to), may not get your clothes clean, or both. Giving clothes premium clean with TLC requires the right strength of agitation, temperatures, and chemical action. But the most important part of this is the agitation method. These waves of water have the power to penetrate tough ground in dirt when the agitub spins one way, stops with force, then comes back another, forcing the load to move against the torrent. Think of your clothes and other laundry being treated like royalty. No other washer can say that. What am I missing?

I'm certainly not an expert on washers, but one of the issues I have with the Speed Queen Washers is they don't seem to pull the clothes down under the water and back up again. The jeans appear to sit along the top of the water. Speed Queens may be notorious for being built like tanks, durable and reliable, but I still like the way a economical Whirlpool washer cleans. The screw type agitator and a small 3.4 cubic foot porcelain tub seems to get the job done. My biggest gripe with the Whirlpool machines is the cheaply made parts and poor reliability, particularly the shift actuator, suspension system and control boards. All of these items had to be replaced. Fortunately I had purchased the extended warranty. It just seems like the washers of the 80's through early 2000 held up much better. Now there's water restrictions and H.E. hype that makes it even more difficult to make a good decision. I've watched many of your videos Kirk, they helped me purchase the machine I thought was best, so thank you very much for uploading these valuable demonstrations.

I apologize for asking such an ignorant question but here goes...if the reason Speed Queen changed was because of EPA, then I don't understand. This machine uses as much water as an older model and the cycle is longer. How is this more environmentally friendly?

  • @kirkrivas8172

All 2018 machines need to have a system to detect load size. This usually means a DC motor as opposed to an AC motor. The DC motor setup uses a speed controller device that can detect feedback (load) from the motor. The brain then can make a determination for water usage by a series of calculations. There also needs to be at least one eco cycle. Even the 2017 models needed to have an eco cycle, the only difference this year is that the 2018 machine needed to be slightly smarter than last year. There is a huge misinformed crowd who believe that Speed Queen made changes to save money. They cannot be further from the truth. Environmentally friendly? probably not, but this is part of the initial change to come.

Not sure how that top pair of jeans got clean, since they never moved from the top to the bottom. Still not crazy with the lazy agitation, or the one spray rinse spin. And what is with the lack of full spin up speed after the wash and drain? I like the capacity, but feel that a few tweeks in the machines programing, like faster agitation, more spray rinses would enhance the cleaning and detergent removal. Also could have solved the cleaning issues with heavily soiled laundry by adding a prewash and soak followed by maybe a 18 minute wash with regular speed agitation (2016 and earlier machines). I still would have serious reservations about buying this machine.

First let me clarify that every machine out there does not spin at full speed after the wash cycle no front loader and no Toploader this is due to the government water regulations. Secondly it does offer a prewash, he just chose not to use it but it’s right there on the control panel, now as far as the spray rinses concerned most HE washers don’t even have spray rinses. This washer did two spray rinses when it supposed to right after the wash water drain and after the first rinse drain.

Speed Queen has done their homework! I think what would make their tr7 machine better is a speech output, braille display, and an onboard tactile user interface for the blind and visually impaired as well as an onboard screen that shows pictures for those who are deaf but can see. They can work with tech companies that can engineer it to their standards. GE has a talking washer and dryer and I think Speed Queen should jump onboard and take a shot! The washers and dryers can describe what cycle options are available, as well as what the cycles are used for. For example, heavy-duty with cold water can be used for light to heavily soiled sturdy cottons that are dark colored. They should also come with an onboard stain removal guide as well as onboard bulk dispensers for laundry detergent, bleach and fabric softener. As a bonus, they also have a stain remover tank and sensors that sense load size, color, fabric type and soil level. Speed Queen washers can use a sensor wash and sensor dry cycle.

Completely confused 🤷‍♂️ about this machine - in some videos it doesn’t wash the clothes very good, in others it works fine, in some the tub / agitation wash movement is slower in others it’s faster. In all the auto sensing never starts with enough water and then needs to stop 2-3x to keep filling - One thing I notice which has not been reported, it seems to work much better without HE soaps. This wash shows actual suds and the clothes came out clean - I wonder how much of the misinformation can be attributed to using that useless HE soap? Anyway, I’m still not sure what to buy, this machine or the Maytag Commercial .... Does SQ have any updates or new machines coming in 2019?

Hello Kirk, I am not so sure what tighter clearances mean, as I am definitely not of the engineering type. But, I have been watching washing machines since I was old enough to stand on a box and look over into my mothers 1954 (?)Kenmore. And having spent a life lifetime watching everything from wringers at my grandmothers to Westys at the neighbors house across the street and my mother-in-Law's , Unimatic next door, and several versions including the Multimatic, Rollarmatic, the 1-18, Speed Queen from the early 60's and just about every version Kenmore and Whirlpool came up with. I do not say all this to impress, but to ask this simple and most basic question. WHY is it so difficult for Appliance Manufacturing Companies such as Whirlpool, Speed Queen to simply take one or two million of the millions they pay over paid engineers (my apologies if you are an engineer) and pay that to a cross section population panel to design a good quality washing machine with options to suit (pre-wash, soak, 2nd rinse, soil level, wash/rinse temps., spin speed (at least 1200 RPM final spin). Cycles like Heavy Duty, Normal/Permanent Press, Delicate should just about cover everything except maybe a wool cycle. I have been in the medical profession my whole working career (over 40 years). I do not pretend to even know the business side of the appliance trade, but I do have a fair amount of common sense about how to get clean laundry from a washing machine. And bottom line, common sense seems to have been replaced by the profit margins and acquisitions. Sorry to be so wordy, but I am extremely frustrated with the choice of washing machines on the market today. BTW. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your videos and test and look forward to many more. Thank you for listening, Tommy (Losangeles)

  • @kirkrivas8172

    @kirkrivas8172

    6 жыл бұрын

I understand your frustration. Concerning better engineered machines: For example, lets take a dryer. The drum rest on rollers near the back wall of the dryer. the front of the drum rest on glides, some manufactures use felt, some use plastic or teflon strips. It works barely, so they keep the design. Another example is rims on cars. Some really expensive rims and tires do not need balancing because they were engineered better with better machinery. The machines building parts for washers cannot handle tolerances/clearances parts for Lockheed Martin's F16. So, the appliance industry is limited due to less sophisticated machinery (less RPM). Your cycle selections and options request seems very reasonable and doable but I doubt manufactures will engineer and increase production cost to obtain a washer with a super high RPM spin speed.

Yup, our TR7 performs just as good. We steer clear of the DOE mandated Eco Normal mode. It really does seem to be as simple as that. Dirty clothes need plenty of water to get clean. Who knew?! I really don't understand the negativity surrounding the new 2018 Speed Queen system. I would echo the comments of others that something fishy is happening. There appears to be a turf war going on and it's amazing what companies will do to claw back 1 percentage point in market share. The newer agitation system is gentler on clothes. That's a pro for most people. Yes, heavily soiled clothes may require pre-treatment, but that's nothing completely new UNLESS you're used to an agitator that is particularly harsh on your clothes, but allows you to get away with little to no pre-treatment. But, AMAZINGLY you've found in this review that very dirty clothes come out clean in any case, from the machine that according to some people comes direct from hell!

Try removing dried-in red wine stains, for example... or blood-stained bed-sheets from where you've been bitten by an insect in the night... that's when you need much more vigorous wash-action, time and heat.

Eh... I wouldn't touch it! Mud is easy to clean, even when hand-washing, but give the thing a REAL challenge and it'll struggle. Front-loaders are the only way to go now. I recently went over to Miele and would never consider anything else now - the 95 celsius cycle gets used more than all the rest put together, and it heats to that and stays there for an hour, NOTHING nasty can survive that. Three deep rinses and a lengthy 1400rpm spin later, the clothes are almost ready to wear!

  • @richardharrold9736

Those customers clearly haven't used a good front-loader. Most of the misconceptions about them come from user error - i.e. never using enough heat to clean them out properly, clogging them solid with liquid detergents and fabric softener, and leaving the door closed after use. Mieles have always been solidly-constructed machines - I can't comment on the new W1 lineup, but the Little Giants are the same basic classic Miele design they've been making in one form or another since the early 1970s. My own machine is a W2240, built in 2005 and bought for £100 last year: the couple I bought it from clearly hadn't used much heat with it, as there was some mould on the door boot, but I soon got it cleaned out and it's been working on a more-or-less daily basis ever since. It's on the original drum bearings and spider - in fact, to my knowledge, it has never received any repair whatsoever. It's a simple, no-nonsense, durable machine that washes, rinses and extracts very effectively.

I can't believe all the people falling for the comparison between a test model and a model that has been tried-and-true.
