2022 bought the TR7 about 6 months ago. Way above my budget however I wanted the last one to ever buy again. Never buy a washer without an agitator! I'm very impressed with all of the wash options on this machine. I always use the SOAK feature regardless of what I am washing. Ensure you use a pre-stain type of liquid along with a liquid detergent. I also use calgon water softner. If you have tough stains on jeans, for example, add a 1/2 cup on PINE-SOL. Yes, PINE-SOL. It has molecules which are very small and can get into tight fabrics to loosen dirt. If you look at the back of the bottle, you will also see wash instructions!!! Also use the pre-soak option and max clean duration for dirty clothes!!! You'll be happy!

If you have to add all those rediculous things, is the washer even working? I could put those things in a bucket over night and get results. Why not add some bleach too while you are at it and dish soap. Serious talk- why the need to add so many chemicals? If you do not, do your cloths not get clean?

Just ordered my TR7 on 4/8/2022 and can't wait to get it. I will say however no matter what machine you have, top or front loader, keep the door open after you wash! This permits the water to evaporate completely and reduce any mold issues. NEVER leave the door(s) shut!

I’ve had two Maytag appliances both washer and dryer. And let me tell you. That “lonely” Maytag repairman had his hands plenty full with these two garbage machines. I landed up getting an LG front loader after that. So far no reliability issues yet, but the bastard shakes like mad during the spin cycle to the point that the water heater adjacent to it shakes too. Tried everything even following the instructions on how to load it and still shakes. At this point I accepted this to be a trait with the front load washers. I think when it comes time to replace these I may look into Speed Queen. I honestly could care less for all these fancy wash cycles. I just need Normal, Perm Press, and to be able to control the temperature.

@@1crazynordlander The LG hasn't been bad either. It just has that shaking problem which seems to be a trait with these front loaders. But I bought this new machine with all these fancy features even wi-fi diagnostics and I realized I never use any of these features. That being said, I feel the next time I want to spend a premium on a washer and dryer I may as well spend it on quality than fancy features I never use. The only problem would be selling this to my wife who won't like the commercial look Speed Queens tend to have.

I get codes from overloading, from opening the lid while it's filling, from slow filling from low water well pressure at times, and from no draining which I suspect is related to dry detergent pods. And no way to reset from the front like my old crap Maytag had, so it's a trip to the garage to flip a breaker. And the cap on the agitator pops off when you are pulling out towels and such, it is not threaded, and the snap fit is too loose and it's a pain in the butt.

Yes they were forced to do this. These machines are not cheaply built, in fact they are overbuilt for what they are now. They held off as long as they could before coming up with the 2018’s. Everything I’m washing in my Tr-5 is coming out just fine. I know it’s a slap in the face when the Raytheon speed queen came out in the early 80’s. That was the beginning water regulation in the early 80’s. Now they are also faced with electrical usage as well. My family has used to Speed Queen for 60 years mostly under the MaGraw Edison years though..They were the true Speed Queen automatic washer totally different grades of stainless Steel in both dryer and washer’s and no helical transmissions, which I think are junk and am glad to see them gone now!! Glad you like your machine ..👍👍

Gee... I bought a TR-5 back in April. The eco-normal cycle doesn't get anything clean. Sheets and underwear (which aren't that dirty to begin with) come out dingier every time I wash them. The heavy duty cycle gets things ALMOST as clean as my 80-year-old Maytag that went up in smoke back in April. RIP. Heavy duty cycle uses TONS of water. Store owner says he will replace it soon as he gets my next choice back in stock. Good for him!

Daniel G I did not pay 1000 for my washer. It was roughly the same price as the former price of the high end 2017 machine. I spent way less on my pair of Speed Queens vs all the extravagant HE front loader sets in the store. One of which retailed for 4,500 bucks and that was just the washer by itself. Maytag is whirlpool today and whirlpool is NOT nor has it ever been a commercial manufacture of appliances much less laundry equipment. The original Maytag corporation washers and dryers were actually commercial duty like SQ and would have been the only true competitor in days gone by to SQ. The Maytag commercial by whirlpool is a nice machine I’m not knocking it. It’s actually nice to see them come up with something above the normal flavor of junk being sold. It isn’t quite as refined polished for home use yet as it should be and it is noisier and I hate the sound of those types of drives no matter who makes them they are annoying as heck. That ratcheting sound during agitation isn’t so nice if your machine is in a living space. You get what you pay for and no more and there technical reasons why I say that. I’ve worked in sales and servicing and I have the history and knowledge to back that up. The SQ is a superior machine no matter how hard whirlpool tries, they are as I said before not a commercial company and for them to break into that market is gonna be tough at the expense of the customer in the trial and error process. These new drives that most top loaders are not tried and true just yet. Yes you can make them tougher and mimic transmissions from older machines, but they still aren’t longevity tested! So there fore are you actually saving money by buying machines in 5, 10, or 15 over and over again nope you’re not!

You said you had odor issues with an LG front loader you had. I don't know what you were doing to have odor problems, but I have an LG I bought from 2012, and a Frigidaire I bought in 1999, never had odor problems. On my LG, the only time I had an odor issue, was when I completely drained the washer of the residual water, in order to remove the filter, to see if anything was caught in it. I only found 1 coin, and a few pieces of hair. After leaving it empty with no water at the bottom of the shell, that my washer stunk. After doing a load of laundry that had bleach in it, it brought it back to normal. So from now on, I will not drain the machine to check the filter, unless I plan to do a load of laundry immediately after doing that. Now I do agree that the EPA has gotten unrealistic about energy and water conservation standards. My current LG washer had to meet the 11 to 13 gallon water standards, and only a third of the clothes got wet, but left detergent and softener residue on the wet clothes. I had to adjust the water pressure switch, in order to get it to get all my clothes wet. It seems to me that the EPA tested most of these front loaders with the tub only a third of the way full. Unless I have too many clothes that I want washed right away, I try to loosely fill it to the top, but gets 2/3 of way packed when the clothes get wet, to allow them to tumble freely. I did not have that problem with my last front loader from 1999. My last front loader also did a load of laundry at most, 50 minutes, when doing the heavy duty cycle. What I also liked about my last front loader, is that it did a wash, spray rinse during the draining of the wash water, then 3 short rinses after that (2 rinses on the delicate cycle). The drawbacks were the spin speed was 550 rpm during the spin cycles, but went to 900 rpm during the last 3 minutes of the final spin. The other drawback was when I needed to do a prewash, it was a separate cycle, and had to restart the washer after that. At least on my LG, I select prewash, and it starts the prewash, then go directly to wash. I don't know about other front loadera, but my LG front loader has the load sensing feature that claimed to determine water usage, but I found that my model only filled to a set level. The level set at the factory had the level to barely fill the drum (like I said, I had to adjust the water level on mine). It's no wonder they can't get Gen X to convert over to front loaders (baby boomers have overall rejected them even in the 60's and 70's, along with those born before 1946). I also have one of those 1.6 gallon toilets, and I find it must flush it more than once, and it's a newer toilet that was installed, while my Grandma was alive. It should have stayed at 3 gallons. Most front loaders need around 20 gallons on average to work effectively. Might look for a used dishwasher when it comes time for me to get one, but I have to get one on rollers, due to lack of overall space in my kitchen, along with cabinet space. Supposedly newer dishwashers only use 4 gallons, where older models used 7 to 10 gallons.

Wash in warm and hot. Rinse in cold. So far no smell. I have never had a top load smell moldy like a front load does.

If you have an old top load washing machine you're best off keeping it running, because other than Speed Queen the new ones are junk! I'll keep my 1986 Maytag that I bought used for $100.00 7 years ago. I have done very little maintenance to it so far.

We just purchased a SQ TR5 after the Whirlpool impeller model pigged out than a new machine. Most brands are throwaways. Disgraceful for major appliances. Don't think the SQ TR5 will deliver 25 years of service as they claim or they would give the customer a 25 year warranty. LoL. Crossing fingers and toes for luck.

Interesting comments. I formerly worked as a commercial laundry repairman and currently work as a plumber, interesting enough. You're wrong on two points: Speed Queen has never changed to cheapen anything. They've actually gotten better in many aspects over the years, and working on different generations of them, I've seen the improvements. While I'm at it, the agitators job is to force soapy water through the fibers of your clothes, not to push them to the bottom. The bottom has no more effective washing action than the top, but it is important that part of your laundry isn't floating there and doesn't get submerged. Second, your point about toilets is interesting. An American Standard Champion 4 will flush better and is more resistant to clog than even old 5 gallon flush toilets. A lot of tech has found its way into toilets, and they now feature glazed, smooth trapways, a siphon action, and larger traps, as well as far more powerful piston style flushing mechanisms that make more than 1.6 gallons a complete waste of water. I suggest you learn what you're talking about before making comments.

I agree with Ruel and wanted to add more. The TC5 has a stationary drum with a moving agitator and the TR7 has a stationary drum with moving agitator, so there is no “cost savings” in manufacturing to be made. The issue of clothes visibly moving around more means better cleaning is a common theory but you could also make the case that the outside clothes on the classic are just sitting still and getting no cleaning effect. If you want to focus on movement pay attention and you will notice TR5 moves everything a lot more. I’m not saying it cleans better than TC just pointing out this is not really relevant. The difference between TC5 and TR7 is one cleans on hard mode always. So it will clean at max faster. However the trade off is it is tougher on clothes. If you worked in construction or a mechanic then the TC is best choice. TR is better suited for typical loads and more delicate clothes. The trade off is you might need to use soak cycle or longer time to wash the dirtier loads, but it is a good washer. Both are tanks and either will work but one is harsher on clothes and the other may take longer on dirtier loads. Which do you have more of?

Good review, I have concerns with the new agitation design but it appears if one follows the directions provided by the manufacture the machine can provide good washing results. Kirk Rivas has done some excellent cleaning test with all the new SQ models. He even goes over the top which he actually takes work jeans 5 pairs and foot rubs mud into the jeans and washes them in the new SQ and it does a good job. I had my doubts on this machine especially after watching the Loraine Appliance Video. But as mentioned he did get a very early release of this washer and maybe it needed some tweaking. He did loose his franchise license to sell SQ because of that review and comments. I have an old washer on its last legs and it will need to be replaced and I am debating on the new FL LG with Turbo Wash vs this machine or the Commercial top load Maytag which still uses old school type agitation.

Thank You so much for commenting. I figured out what the error code was. "er" then "ub" has to mean unbalanced load I am sure. Tat can happen to any of them. I have noticed that this one spins with little vibration.

Gary Karczewski if you get a front loader, I'd get the LG with Turbo Wash, because at least with that feature, the clothes keep getting sprayed with water, and it also helps with filling the tub with water faster. I could not afford that feature 6 years ago, that I could only afford the cheapest model. I don't like that with my washer, it does a rising effect to fill with water. So it takes longer, than my old Frigidaire, where it sprayed water into the tub. While technically, it still does the same thing on the Turbo Wash washers, but with Turbo Wash activated, it at least pumps the water from the bottom of the shell, and sprays it on the clothes. One thing I will tell you, that if you're using a gas dryer on the same circuit, have an electrician install a second 20 amp circuit, if you plan to run both, your washer and dryer at the same time. The reason is, if you're buying a set, each unit uses around 12 amps each, that it exceeds the amount allowed on the same circuit. Even if you're just getting a washer, but keeping your existing gas dryer (if using a gas dryer), it still would be a good idea to have a 2nd 20 amp circuit installed.

The old machines past the Government standards. We didn't need to switch to these machines. They want to computerize and WiFi connect everything In the home. They can't do that with mechanical timed washing machines.

Like you said they are cheaping them up and too bad you didn't get the precious model for a good comparison. 2018 model does a very poor job of washing clothes and the build is done to save money, they already met government regulations on the previous model. Do your homework before making dumb comments.

You poor thing! Bypassed their real commercial machines for this lame thing. You know, in the fifties and sixties Speed Queen marketing actively made fun of machines just like this, that just swirled clothes around. As they said--then--without the agitation the clothing didn't get as clean. Fast forward to the snot-nosed engineers of this century who probably never looked at their own company's material, they came out with what essentially was their front loader setup, rotated 90deg. So very sad; and yes, I bought my 534 in December of 2017 just before they foisted these bad jokes on unsuspecting customers. A friend of mine owns an appliance store and he's a SQ dealer and quit selling these crappy things because so many customers found out the hard way that they didn't do the job--and for a lot of money, besides.
