    I just bought a step down DC3 a week ago. It was an Open Box deal, so I got $330.00 knocked off the regular price and I couldn't resist that price. So far it has been great and works well with my 2012 Speed Queen AWN 412 washing machine. Neither of these are a Top of Line model, but they do a wonderful job of what I need them to do without being overloaded with features that I probably wouldn't use. If Speed Queen made cars, I'd probably buy one!

    I read every review that I could find from every source that I could think of before making my purchase decision a couple of months ago. My Maytag washer dryer that I had purchased from Lowes about 5 years ago just weren't cutting it. Mostly the washer. It had an impeller vs an agitator. Such garbage. Loud isn't the word. But the suspension must have been weak too because it would start violently walking across the floor when it went into spin cycle. It also took a minimum of 51 minutes and the clothes weren't that clean. Your video was the clincher for me to pony up the extra cash for Speed Queen. I called the local appliance store and was describing what we wanted in a washing machine: Agitator, deep filling, quieter, sturdy suspension no digital anything, no wifi, no nonsense, no gadgets and we wanted to be able to lift the lid to either add something or rebalance if necessary. He said, you're describing Speed Queen. By the way, the Speed Queen is completed in 30 minutes, too! It costs a bit over double the price of Lowe's and Home Depot models but it's a higher quality machine. If it lasts 20 years, I'll be glad and probably gone by then!

    A trick I use to increase drying is to put half the wet clothes in the dryer then I take a large dry bath towel and throw it on top of the wet clothes then toss the rest of the wet clothes. I never have to use the full drying time can use the shorter drying time and the clothes are completely dry when the dryer stops.

  • @HarperandKnowles

    @HarperandKnowles

    Жыл бұрын

    That's an interesting trick! The concept seems sound, as the dry towel would indeed absorb some of the moisture, potentially speeding up the drying process. However, its effectiveness might depend on the type of fabric in the load, the overall load size, and the effectiveness of your dryer. You'd also want to make sure the load isn't so full that it inhibits the clothes' ability to tumble freely, as this is crucial for efficient drying. But as long as you're not overloading your dryer, this method could certainly be worth trying if you're looking to save some time. Thanks for sharing your tip, and thanks for watching!

    Miele models are also excellent. Pricey but worth the money. Just not for casual users. BTW, in Québec, the DR7 is 1800$CAN while the DR5 is 1700$, with 7 and 5 years warranty respectively. +2years warranty for 100$ is a no brainer IMHO.

    You did a great job with the review I have to say excellent! However, I owned the DR7 and I wasn’t crazy about the way it dried because it’s energy star. It would turn off before all my clothes were dry no matter what settings I used. I have small loads because I’m a single person and I found that to be really very annoying. I purchased a low end GE dryer, which gets my clothes, perfectly dry each and every time. I’m sure the DC 5 dryer or the DR 5 probably would be less disappointing because they don’t use that “energy star” nonsense.

    Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your experience with the Speed Queen DR7 dryer! I understand your frustration with the Energy Star feature causing the dryer to turn off before your clothes are completely dry. It can indeed be annoying, especially when you're dealing with small loads. It's great to hear that the low-end GE dryer you purchased is working well for you and getting your clothes perfectly dry every time. As for the Speed Queen DC5 and DR5 dryers, they might provide a more satisfactory experience for those who prefer non-Energy Star models, as you mentioned. Ultimately, it's crucial to find the right balance between energy efficiency and performance to suit your specific needs and preferences. I'm glad you were able to find a dryer that works well for you. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks for watching my channel!

    I own The DR7 dryer and I think it sucks!!! The only cycle that I can use is the time dry cycle because all of the Automatic cycles never seem to want to shut off!!! I had loads in the dryer for over 70 minutes and the control board just reads "HEATING" all the time even after the load is fully dried and piping hot!!! The lint filter is always clean and I don't use dryer sheets either to avoid gumming up the sensor... I had the service tech here 3 times to check this dryer out and he can't seem to find anything wrong with it!!! This is the third electronic control dryer that I owned from Speed Queen and all 3 of them seemed to do the same thing So, No more Speed Queens for me!!!

    I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your DR7 dryer. It sounds frustrating to have the automatic cycles not shutting off properly and the control board displaying "HEATING" even after the load is fully dried. It's even more disappointing to have had similar experiences with previous electronic control dryers from Speed Queen. While it's unfortunate that the service technician couldn't find anything wrong, it seems like this particular model may not be meeting your expectations. • @HarperandKnowles

    @HarperandKnowles

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your question regarding the Speed Queen FF7 washer and its corresponding dryer. As a washer and dryer expert, I can provide you with information based on my experience and knowledge. The Speed Queen FF7 is a front-loading washing machine that is known for its durability and reliability, consistent with the reputation of other models from the brand. It comes with various features that enhance its performance, such as a stainless steel drum, multiple wash cycle options, and adjustable spin speeds. The corresponding dryer also offers similar build quality and performance, making them a popular choice for those looking for long-lasting and dependable appliances. As with any appliance purchase, it's essential to research and read reviews to determine if the FF7 and its corresponding dryer will meet your specific needs and preferences. However, from my technician's perspective, some of these reviews fall short and lack a comprehensive evaluation. Keep in mind that the opinions and experiences of other users may vary, so consider multiple sources when making your decision. Bottom line... If it's made by Speed Queen it's made well! If you take two similar looking machines branded Maytag and Whirlpool and dismantle them you will find the exact same internal parts. However, the Maytag will be more expensive only because of the brand reputation as more reliable than the Whirlpool and Whirlpool is selling you the name. There is really no difference.

    What about heat pump dryers? They use less energy, don't need venting, clothes are less heated, less shrinkage. They're also supposed to last longer, but I bet the jury is still out on that. Downsides might be they tend to come in smaller sizes or else they get expensive (could be a ploy for the industry to trickle out incrementally), take longer. Not many choices for heat pump based dryers. And then there are condenser based ones, which is related but different I think? Anyway, did you talk about heat pump and condenser dryers yet, and if not, might it be a nice to add this to your series?

  • @HarperandKnowles

    There aren’t any of these in my service area yet. Or at least none that need servicing. But they are something that I need to learn about. What I’ve read about them says good things about energy efficiency. However, I wonder if adding the HVAC technology to a clothes dryer is actually practical. The cost in maintenance and the added complexity of the machine won’t endear the average consumer I’m thinking.

    @@HarperandKnowles Whirlpool has a rare 7+ cu ft heat pump dryers. It seems all or most of the other options are all in the 4 cu ft, compact 24" wide range. But that Whirlpool has many bad reviews revealing problems. Putting humidity into the house is one. Lint building up where you can't reach it and needing taking apart, another problem. And then there is this Asian one, Midea, they have a 4.4 cu ft 24" one. Costco carries them, in Canada at least, with the extra year warranty. Most people will probably say that it can't be trusted, but the reviews are rather good. And then not going heat pump or condenser style, what can be done to prevent a regular dryer from stealing warm air in the house ejecting it outside in the winter, and, the biggie, avoid shrinking of clothes?

    Yes, it is not uncommon for appliances to experience failures, even at a relatively young age. While it can be frustrating to have a motor fail on a 5-year-old dryer, it is not unheard of. The lifespan of an appliance can vary depending on various factors such as usage, maintenance, and build quality. Before making a decision, it could be beneficial to get a second opinion from another technician. They may provide you with additional insights or alternative solutions that could help you make an informed decision. Additionally, it's worth considering the cost of the new motor versus the cost of a new appliance. If the price of the motor replacement is significantly lower than purchasing a new dryer, it might be more cost-effective to go for the repair. Ultimately, the choice between repairing or replacing the appliance depends on your specific circumstances, budget, and personal preference. Consulting with a reputable technician and weighing the costs and benefits of each option can help you make the best decision for your situation. I have seen many cases where the technician was inexperienced and completely misdiagnosed the problem, so a second opinion by a more experienced tech may give you a correct diagnosis. If you go this route I wouldn't mention the opinion of the first guy before the second tech makes his own diagnosis. Thanks for watching!

    When a technician can't figure out what's wrong they give a high estimate so you don't fix it, did the dryer sound like it was having a hard time starting, prior to the failure? They usually show signs of failure for months before actually failing

    When I contacted Speed Queen customer service, I was told they don't list decibel levels for their dryers because noise can vary based on the amount and type of clothes being dried, as well as other factors. However, they assured me that the noise level should be comparable to that of other standard machines.

    What's up with the VIDEOS where Customers Dryers are "MELTING" The Fabric????

  • @HarperandKnowles

    @HarperandKnowles

    7 ай бұрын

    Dryer melt is not limited to Speed Queen dryers but is usually the failure of the consumer to adhere to the requirements of drying polyester materials. These fabrics require a lower temperature range to dry and are designed to melt instead of burst into flames when these limits are exceeded. Thanks for watching!

    I'm sorry to hear that some reviews mentioned melting clothes. However, it's important to remember that individual experiences can vary. The Speed Queen dryer is designed with quality and performance in mind, and many users have had great results with their machines. To avoid any potential issues with clothes melting, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's guidelines regarding proper use and settings. Additionally, pay attention to the fabric care labels on your clothing, as some materials may require lower heat settings or air drying. If you have any concerns or need further guidance, feel free to ask. Thanks for watching

    Hi @RosieBrewer, thanks for checking out my channel! It seems you've stumbled upon one of the rare instances where I've featured Speed Queen products-specifically, 2 out of 157 videos focus on them. The vast majority of my content is dedicated to washing machine and dryer repairs, along with reviews of various other laundry appliances. My goal is to provide valuable, educational content to help viewers with their appliance issues and decisions, far beyond mere commercials. I appreciate your feedback, but I assure you, there's much more to explore on my channel that aligns with your interests. I encourage you to take a deeper look, and perhaps you'll find something that's more up your alley. Trolls may find little here, as this community values constructive dialogue and genuine queries about appliance repair and reviews. Oh, thanks for watching!

    It’s to bad you recommend Amazon in your information section as where to purchase these appliances. I’d much rather give my business to a local appliance store. Very disappointed in the channel because of that. Why help Bezos to become wealthier 😏.

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I understand your preference for supporting local businesses. As mentioned in the comment sections of my videos, I receive a small commission from Amazon links, which helps support the channel. I have a diverse audience, and offering a universal link like Amazon is the most feasible way to cater to everyone, regardless of location. I also want to highlight that Amazon is a publicly traded company, and its success benefits a wide array of individuals, including many working-class people through retirement funds and private investments. While I respect and understand concerns about wealth concentration, it's also important to acknowledge the broader impact of successful companies on various stakeholders. I believe in celebrating individual success and encourage a perspective that looks at the overall benefits of economic growth and success. Again, I appreciate your viewpoint and encourage supporting local businesses whenever possible. Thanks for watching!

    @@erieschl I do have a leg to stand on. Mossy oak is not for an outdoor company. It’s a family name and a well loved tree. Also, I try and buy local. I mostly buy groceries and other various things from a local grocery store. That being said, it’s very hard to find American items these days. But for your information this speed queen is in fact made in America and I bought it from a local mom and pop appliance store. Amazon is/has distorted many small brick and mortar stores like Walmart did prior.

    @mossyoakmom8880 Still doesn't stop that fact that you're being unnecessarily rude. Not everyone thinks like you. Nothing wrong with affiliate links, either. Also, the people watching this video will likely not live anywhere close to his personal Speed Queen store and Amazon delivers practically everywhere.
