We suffered with an LG Washer from 2013 to 2021. Tons of in warranty problems and several out of warranty issues. Even when it was working loads took FOREVER. Mainly because it would spend so much time weighing and balancing loads before it even started washing. It would also use as little water as possible and often didn’t use enough water to get even mildly dirty clothes clean. There was no option to have the tub fill all the way. Service tech came out and told me it needed over $400 in repairs. Reccomended we get a speed Queen. We got the TC5. It’s a little smaller than our LG was but works like a dream. Full loads wash in 35 minutes and you can set it to fill the tub.

The aspect I love about top-loading washers is the ability to let the clothes/garments *_soak_* for a couple of hours in laundry detergent [using cold water], with the occasional running of the agitator for 30 seconds, then proceeding with letting it soak; then putting it through a short wash cycle. The result: Clean clothes without the use of bleach or other cleaning additives; with the exception of the washes for underwear/socks, then I sparingly use a powder additive. The short wash cycle [six minutes] also saves on electricity and the wear and tear of the washing machine.

Thanks for the comparison! I've never used a TR series Speed Queen washer but it looks to me that the Maytag has superior wash action. I have a 2013 Speed Queen that is similar to the TC model and it has worked flawlessly for the last 10 years. It's just my wife and I now but the first 5 years of use there were 5 adults using it.........again, no issues whatsoever.

@@paulstanley3265 I have heard both good and bad reviews on the TR model. Most of the bad reviews are from those who are used to traditional washers' aggressive agitator action, and I doubt have given the alternative a chance to prove itself. I would think Speed Queen would have discontinued the production of it if it didn't do what it was designed for. Thanks for the comment!

@@HarperandKnowles I have a TR7 - what I am finding is you might need to use the soak or pre-wash cycles more than you would have on a typical top loader for best results - we had a Crosley previously (which is just an off brand Whirlpool washer). Especially to get stains out. Honestly that is not even an option on Front loader HE machines so if you are coming from that to a TR - you might not even realize the purpose of those cycle options. Vast majority of what I wash is not heavily soiled (I have a desk job). I do yardwork and occasional car repairs but no washer has ever gotten those stains out reliably. The TR7 will get it's shot (we've only had it a few weeks so will need to get into the summer to test it out more).

Most of the problems I’ve heard about were from folk’s that have longer than average exhaust vents. These get build ups of lint inside the pipe and the flow of air slows to the point of causing the thermal protection devises to blow as they are designed to do. They seem to be pretty much trouble free if the exhaust ports aren’t restricted. Thanks for watching!

You stated that the Speed Queen model allowed a human to choose the water level. According to a person at a store that sells them, whom I talked to yesterday on the phone, govt mandated sensors choose your water level.

Thank you for your comment. I understand that some washing machines have government-mandated sensors for water efficiency. However, in my experience with the Speed Queen model I reviewed, users can adjust the water level using the load size and soil level selections. It's possible that the model combines both manual settings and automatic sensors for flexibility and efficiency. I'd recommend checking the user manual or the official Speed Queen website for more specific details on the model you are considering. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for your content. I’m exhausted doing research after the transmisión in my GE went out. My greatest need is towels and bedding. We have a kiddo with an autoimmune struggle that can cause multiple vomits a day for months when she has a flare up. She also is feeding tube dependent and the formula she needs is awful on clothing and bedding. We have literally often changed bedding 3-4 times a day. I was frustrated with my washer, but after all this research, I think she did the best she could under the circumstances. Besides doing smaller loads, which is my biggest concern with SQ because it’s capacity is pretty small…. With all that info, would your suggestion be any different? Or do you still think that’s gonna give us the best bang for our buck. Or wouod we better off going cheaper model and just accepting that we have to replace every 5 years. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

  • @HarperandKnowles

Okay here is what my AI assistant came up with when I asked it to research these models. "The Maytag MVWP585GW, like the MVWP576KW, is a 3.5 cu.ft. top-load washer with a dual-action agitator, designed for robust cleaning and durability with commercial-grade parts. It offers multiple water level selections to suit various washing needs. Both models share similar features, including the commercial-grade construction, the dual-action agitator for effective cleaning, and a focus on durability with a 10-year limited parts warranty on the drive motor and stainless steel wash basket. Choosing between the MVWP576KW and MVWP585GW may come down to specific features like water level options in the MVWP585GW or other minor differences in design and functionality. Both machines are built to offer powerful, commercial-grade performance for residential use, ensuring long-term reliability and effectiveness in cleaning." I tend to pick models with less gadgets on them because if they are designed to clean your clothes that's all they need to do. All that extra stuff is just something else that can break. With that said, I think the MVWP576KW would be my choice. But my Missus may choose the other and she's the one I need to please! Thanks for watching!

Just purchased the MVWP586 Model (Sept 2023) Deep wash does not fill tub to the top (barely half way up! Unlike my previous 30 yr old Maytag, you cannot choose the temperature of the rince cycle. If you live in a Northern Climate where the cold water from the tap is barely above freezing for 5 months out of the year, this is a huge disappointment! Maytag could have added the extra option (had it on the old machine) Still better than all the new electronic models, but not much! This is what happens when the government gets involved in controlling our every day lives! First the light bulb, then the gas stoves, wood burning fireplaces, ceiling fans and cars!! Thank god I’m old!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. 1- The water level can only be set for 2 of the cycles. 2- The washer will sometimes shut off inexplicably when you turn it on. 3- It sometimes complete a wash cycle but the cycle lights don't change. 4- The adjustable water levels are on the low side leaving "Deep water" and "High" as the only useful levels. The main electronic board was changed on it and the issues remained. Worst purchase I have made in a long time. More edits: the control board was changed 3X so far. The lid switch was changed and eventually they changed the motor. And I STILL HAVE ISSUES. Now, it refuses to spin. That washer is dead weight!! Stay away!!

If you don’t cancel the cycle, it will ignore whatever setting you have on it and fill with just 2 inches of water. It also randomly turns off when I open the lid to throw in a sock I may have dropped. I’ve had the control panel changed twice and the lid switch replaced. Nothing has solved the problem so they are replacing the machine. Reading your post, I don’t have high hopes.

What’s the though process here? I would expect the comparison to the Maytag to be the TC5 since they both feature a independent moving agitator & have transmissions. I’ve decided I don’t want to buy crap anymore & I’m willing to spend the extra money. I’m tired of the fantasies that purport to be more efficient & use less water & energy when there’s no difference when you do the math. Sure, they use less water & power but they makeup for it by having these ridiculous long cycles. Same fantasy with high efficiency toilets that have been foisted on us without having the option. Sure, they use use water per flush but you gave flush more than once so where’s the savings & the saving of the planet? I buy replacement toilets in Mexico to get around the water restrictions & I’m not bothered in the lease about the 5-7 gallons per flush bc in the end it’s all the same. I value your knowledge & experience & want to buy the best option. I’m leaning towards the Speed Queen bc I’m not restricted by the water police.

@@HarperandKnowles I have a TR7 and regularly wash 10-12 bath towels in it... i use auto water level for most loads unless i want to soak something or for bedding and it does a good job.. the wash action in my TR7 will be indentical to thye TR5 he reviewed.. with 10-12 towels in the machine it doesnt seem to phase it.. still easily gets up to the full high speed spin 800 RPM I think? doesnt shake the house at all.. ive had the machine 4 and a half years and zero service calls.. friend of mine has the maytag 575 and has equally good results.. he has had his for a few years and no issues.. while my TR7 does get my coveralls pretty clean after working on my vintage diesel busses , I do think for really dirty items the maytag or any machine with traditional agitator action works better.. but for 99% of the time the speed queen TR does a fantastic job.. the matching dryer works good too.. only thing I dont like about the dryer is the lint filter isnt removeable so have to finger out the lint

Ok these are totally different washers…. The TR Series is Speed Queens first attempt at a high efficiency washer. The Maytag MGW575 is not high efficiency. The Speed Queen TR has a fake agitator that’s bolted to the tub thus it doesn’t move. The tub moves and doesn’t clean anything. It just swooshes the clothes around. The Maytag 575GW has a dual action agitator that is not bolted to the tub. The tub and agitator move meaning your clothes are being washed and agitated. The Speed Queen TC models are closer comparisons to the Maytag Commercial Washer not to be confused by the terrible Maytag Commercial Technology Washers.

It's clear from your comment that you might not have had the chance to watch the entire video. I actually covered the differences you mentioned between the TR series and the Maytag MGW575 in the review. I went into detail about the agitator design and how it impacts the washing process in both machines. Additionally, I discussed the TC models as well. It's always a good idea to watch the full video before commenting to ensure that all aspects are covered. Thanks for your interest!

best to put "TR series" in the video title otherwise people who might not watch all of your video will assume "all speed queens are the same" just a thought I would only get a TR series if i only had delicates to wash 😏

Does the Maytag still use a plastic drive hub kit? I have owned it for a year and I will be installing my second drive hub this weekend. Which washer is better for a household of seven people

Wouldn't the TC5 have made a better comparison? I see you talk about it later in the video. The TC5 seems to have a much stronger washing action. Imagine throwing in a full load of jeans. You want pure hardcore washing with a bit of oomph, and not the back and forth caressing that the TRs seems to do. TC5 seems loud though, but ok if you have a laundry room that you can close. One thing is clear. If you want good quality, build and durability wise, you need to spend double that of a budget machine. One huge downside if everyone started to buy Speed Queens though.... you'd be out of business except your youtube channel (just kidding).

If you look at the data most consumers pick the TR7 over the TC5 because of the added features. That made it the leader ahead of the TC5. I wanted to reach the consumer that had probably considered the TR7 as their first choice and also show them why they shouldn’t discount the TC5. My thinking was that if they had already picked the TR7 as the one to compare to the Maytag then they would have passed on the video.

Be careful on what models you buy in both brands. I think both of them have models made in Mexico. Black and Decker used to be a good brand for small appliances until they offshored to Mexico. Now they are junk. Whirlpool makes a habit of hiring Mexican nationals in their US factories. How do i know? Bc when Whirlpool had a temporary layoff in our city, the unemployment office was deluged with claimants who spoke Spanish, no English. And after being stationed at Ft Huachua Az and watching Army men take their cars for repair or body work to Nogales Mexico, thinking they were getting a good deal and seeing the end result, I will buy any product from any part of the world rather than Mexico or south of the US border.

I’m pretty certain that Speed Queens sold in America are made in America, in Ripon Wisconsin. Unfortunately some of the electronics are from Mexico with Asian components on them, but that is because there aren’t any electronics manufacturers left in the USA. Thanks for watching!
