But how exactly do they stack up to the competition?
In this video, we do a full product review of every Speed Queen top-load washing machine: TR3, TR5, TR7, and the classic TC5. We discuss the different cycle options, warranties, washing actions, fill options, and customization of each model, plus answer a few common questions we get asked by our customers in-store who are interested in switching to a Speed Queen. We have tested and reviews both the TR & TC models, and this video is the result.
If you are looking into a Speed Queen washing machine, we hope this video will help you on your consumer journey.

@@marksappliance A bit of advice to anyone reading this, I guess more wisdom, Buy ONCE, Cry Once. It may hurt the first time, but over the life of a really quality made product it's worth it. I learned this the OUCH method, quality tools work, right tool for the right task. Cheap tools will cause rounded off fasteners, which will in turn cause busted knuckles, which will cause you to bit your lip, your tongue, new words and then depending on the pain level, new word combos and could also cause said cheap tool to learn to fly, then bounce into something you didn't want it to, repeat cycle till clean or the wash, sorry pain is over. Also have to factor into downtime, repair cost, replacement cost over "X" number of years. Also Drew, I enjoyed your new briefer lack of polish, didn't feel like a used cars salesman feel of being oversold and underperform product pitch.

I would definitely get the tc5 model if they added the option to control your water level because me as a consumer do different loads of laundry. Say I have microfiber cleaning tiles that I use daily to clean and dust and whatever else around the house. Well it's quite a small load and of course you really aren't supposed to mix microfiber with other towels, especially ones that have cleaning products on them. So the tc5 in that category would be considered wasting water because you got a small load but it's filling ing almost all the way but if they added a water control option like they did the commercial Maytag, I definitely would be getting rid of my TR7 and going with a tc5 Plus I really don't like this perfect wash system because as quiet as the washer is there's times it doesn't really clean. Well cuz you don't have that rollover action. So you got clothes still sitting on top? Just trickling away while the clothes under are getting more cleaning action because it has more access to the water

I wouldn't agree with you 25 years ago. Commercial Quality is nothing more than a label... a label that sadly means nothing in most cases. For example, a regular Whirpool washer sold in any Appliance store surely wouldn't be up to the task of surviving a Laundrymat would it? The short answer is no... but they did it anyway and they have done it for years. Whirlpool Commercial Washer with coinbox CAE2745FQ 3.7 Cubic Foot Retails for $1,100 It is almost identical to their regular Washer but it has a setup for a coinbox and what they normally do is upgrade the motor to a 1/2 HP. In the older Direct drive Models the Residential High-end washers like KitchenAid washers and Kenmore Elite series would get the 3/4 HP motor like the Commercial but the rest of the parts in the unit were the same as residential washers. Commercial Quality? Really?.....YES... Speed Queen is the exception and not the norm! This New Speed Queen is a different animal than the older units. The Commercial Quality label far too often is a cheap marketing ploy but in the case of Speed Queen, it holds. Quite remarkable to see that in this day and age. Speed Queen (Older Model - AWN432SP111) The nightmare of Speed Queen... As a Technician of 30+ years I can tell you that the older Speed Washers were like a hybrid Frankenstein of Amana and Admiral Washers with a little Matag tears mixed in. I do not know one technician who liked these older model Speed Queen washers. To us technicians it was like an Amana Washer cheated with an Admiral Washer and Maytag messed him up. If you never worked on one they actually seemed like a 'Frankenstein' of washers and when they worked...they worked great. The problem was when something broke or started leaking it was normally a big repair. These were not fun to work on. Most repairs involved removing the entire unit from the shell flipping it over and working on it. Not ideal in many homes where the washer is not in a basement but in a closet or bedroom. Types of common repairs - They had a Thrust Bearing Assembly and I did many of those, rust was an issue. To stop the spinning tub they used a brake package and this was also to hold the inner basket from spinning during the wash cycle. If the brake pads went bad the washer would spin and wash at the same time causing floods. I did a lot of tub seal and tub bearings for noise and leaks. The other main issue was that the pumps would get a faulty center seal and weld themselves to the motor shaft causing the motor shaft to swell with rust and you could not get the pump off the motor. Just like that a pump and belt condemned another unit and this was a common theme for a while. Is it a Buy or Don't Buy? The new Speed Queen is a solid Buy! ... for the Washer. For the dryer, I would stay away from it and get the world's best dryer... a Whirlpool dryer with the lint filter on top. You could buy 2x Whirpool Dryers for the Prices I am seeing for a Speed Queen Dryer. That is crazy! These units made by Whirlpool have about a 7 Cubic foot-sized drum and retail for only $529 for the Electric and $629 for Gas Models. They have made this model for over half a century and they just last. If you had a Kenmore dryer with the Lint Filter on the Top surface you had a Whirlpool. Whirlpool Models Referenced from Whirlpool Website... Whirlpool Dryer Electric 220v Model WED4950HW $529 on sale at Whirlpool 7.0 Cu. Ft. Top Load Gas WGD5010LW Model WGD5010LW $629 A Speed Queen Washer and 2 Whirpool Dryers Looks amazing in the basement and the wife will Love You! Trust me I had 2 Washers and Dryers for many years. For the same price, you can get 2 dryers that will probably last a decade longer.

That is pretty amazing! I also supply washers and dryers to a local racetrack. I tell people the track is where they go to die. There are some cheap brands that are half rusted, and still keep working. I prefer to put in classic direct drive Whirlpools or a washer that might be tougher than SQ, the 2 belt Maytag. Wash on 🤘

I've had a TC5 for several years having purchased it the first year it was on the market. I have no regrets. It is a classic top-load washer. It cleans well, uses enough water to rinse thoroughly, and is built like the proverbial tank. I wish it spun a little faster but other than that it is great. Also consider that SQ is sold by local dealers (profits stay locally) and built by US workers (good for the economy). They are pricey, but you do get what you pay for.

I had a speed queen for 10 years and loved it. When we moved the home we bought was a model home and came with a GE high end front loader and so we used that. In less than 3 years the front loader broke, when the repairman came out he said it would be more expensive to replace the part than to just get a new washer! Even though the GE washing machine had a 10 year warranty of course it didn’t cover the part that was broken. I am honestly glad it broke, I am excited to go back to a Speed Queen and have cleaner clothes and more peace of mind!

@@blackrifle6736 I think it has to do with the more complex automatic features, like determining the water level for you based on the weight of the clothes at the beginning of the cycle. Because of that, the machine can't allow people to interrupt the cycle without the machine knowing that the cycle is being interrupted. I would prefer that one be able to set the water level manually, but the US government has outlawed that on Energy Star rated washers. I also hate that warm water rinse cycles are outlawed by the US government (must use cold water rinse).

My Speed Queen TC5 was delivered from my local old school mom-n-pop appliance store three weeks ago and even in its simplicity, it's everything I could ever want in a washer. This SQ replaced my 12 year old Kenmore front load which had all the bells and whistles. However, in the twelve years I had it, my front load broke down five times. About six years ago, I even had to have the computer board replaced and with this final service call, the motor had died and would cost $600 to replace (oddly enough, I've never had a problem with the matching 12 year old Kenmore dryer -- not even one service call!). I don't miss my front load at all. IMO, front load washers are crap! I wanted a "old school" washer like the ones I grew up with in the 1960s/70s so I passed on the computerize TR series with all its be and whistles and got the TC classic! My laundry is now clean and fresh-smelling -- something that was missing with the so-called "energy efficient" front load with the smell and the moldy gaskets that had to constantly be cleaned. I'm 62, and if true to the quality of the brand, my TC5 will be the last washer I'll ever have to buy, and it may even outlast me! Yes, SQ is expensive -- but worth every penny.

Unfortunately, most people only buy appliances based on how they look. I won't buy front load wahsers, just because you get a max of 2 years before they absolutely wreak. If you get it cleaned and seal replaced, well, ur out a bunch of money anyway. To me, they are money pits. Fronts loads are effective, efficient, and def great in the operation of them. To me, ur washing clothes for them to be clean, front loads most people dont leave the door wide open to let them dry out. Top loads everyone does, so I think you easily get twice the time out of top vs front load washers. I just bought new washer and dryer. I wish I knew this brand existed. I live alone and wash small loads so its irrelevant what I use. I think what I got will last.

Our first SQ washer lasted about 30 yrs B4 the seal in the transmission began leaking oil into the wash tub and staining clothes. The only repairs were a new belt, and new brake shoes. Once it did lock up, but it was a child’s sock that got jammed in the water pump, which in the TC is driven by the same motor. It’s been 42 years now since we bought the matching dryer, and it’s still going strong. Replaced the gas valve solenoids once, two drum rollers, and it’s on a fourth set of felt drum seals. It looks weird sitting next to the replacement washer because of the fake wood grain on the control panel. Best, it’s still made in the USA! I may buy another pair just to have, in case the government bans the sale of non HE washers and dryers. It would be the last ones I’d ever own in my lifetime.

My husband wanted me to donate it since it was less than year old when I could take no more. There was no one I hated that much and I REALLY wanted to shoot it as I had been threatening to do. The diapers were thrashed around via that center spindle and were clean! That machine went to washer heaven about 13 years ago so we bought a SQ that had the same desirable spindle wash action. Dirty dog/cat blankets, farm work clothes, delicates - no matter what items go into the washer, they comes out clean and fresh smelling. This is absolutely the best presentation of Speed Queen washers I've seen out there. I love my Speed Queen and have had it for over a decade! Thanks for taking time to explain each model and what features/warranties they have. It's obvious you know what you are talking about. Great job!

Thank you so much for the education on Speed Queen. We had Speed Queens in our previous house but the new owners wanted the set so we left them. Trying to research washers now, but my heart belongs to Speed Queens. And now I know why! They are the best!

I bought my first Speed Queen in 1985. The machine was top of the line and I had it 18 yrs and gave it to my niece. I never had to call a serviceman. My daughter and sister have both purchased SpeedQueen after trying other machines that didn’t last long. As soon as I move I’ll buy another. I don’t want to move a SpeedQueen because they are very heavy machines

Great rundown on the SpeedQueen washers! Definitely will be going with one of these models when I build our retirement house. Thank god there’s still something made in USA 🇺🇸 with decent quality and without all the useless bells whistles and safety/eco-police garbage. So far have lucked out with our Maytag Atlantis. Fortunately I’m handy and combined that with the fact it’s still somewhat the old school design/construction. Cams, relays, no membrane touch pad bs. I’ve been able to keep it running 20 yrs now.

I just got rid of my older ge washer and the dryer broke and the part like 150 so i wasn't investing that into the unit. Anyway, I'm going with Samsung and I'm regretting it the more I look at brands lol. Is what it is though. 1500 doesn't buy you much anymore. If only we knew to stock about 1000 washer and dryers from 20 years ago, we'd of at least tripled our money because id pay current prices for a new old stock washer from 20 years ago for sure lol.

We had a multi-featured big box store top loader which would not clean clothes. With the miserly eco water control and impeller our clothes never got clean. Bought a TR7- allows you to use all hot water if needed, you control the water level, agitates the clothes enough for cleaning yet does not destroy bras or shirt buttons. This is how clothes should be washed. Well worth the money.

Thanks for the excellent review! I am looking for a new washer/dryer set, and my gas company sells Speed Queen. I have purchased five other gas appliances from them, and they sell only the best, and they stand behind and service what they sell. So the only two washers they sell are the TR5 and TR7 series. Well I've had all I can take of the better ideas and want to go back to the basics that really worked. After watching your video, the TC5 is the only washer I would choose. So I dropped in at the gas company today to ask if they could order a set in, and the sales gal and I just started looking at the TR5 and TR7 on the floor when a guy from the back came out and told me they happen to have a TC5 set that just came in. How about that!!??!! Needless to say I bought the set on the spot. Now I also get to make the last transition to gas and pull my electric clothes dryer out.

Interesting technology on the TR series. I don't have a Speed Queen but I hear they are the No. #1 brand. I have a classic agitator machine for heavily soiled items and a portable impeller machine for lightly soiled items.

Wonderful video! Thank you for explaining the Speed Queen machine and models so thoroughly! It is so hard to shop and choose a washer when you go to Lowe's and the repairs that are needed so quickly are disheartening. My washer has been broken for two months, one of the parts have been back ordered. I want to have a good machine that we can depend on. Thank you for explaining all the details and capabilities of the Speed Queen and now I know what brand and model I need to buy. Thank you so much!

Thank you. I was confused about the different models. Our 35-year old Kenmore washer died this week. My mother is pretty adamant about buying something similar, and you know these days obtaining a quality durable washer is hard to find in the market. The TC5 may be the washer that will make her happy. Thank you for breaking down all the models!!!!

Thanks for the thorough review of the Speed Queen line, Drew. You were very informative and I love your laid back presentation style. We just bought the TC5 and the matching DC5 dryer at our local appliance dealer here in Texas. They'll be delivered in 6 days. They're replacing a 6 year old Maytag washer which is starting to give us "error code" issues.
