Looking for appliances for a vacation home and Blake’s review was super helpful. We have an Electrolux all refrigerator at our house because we are veggie-voirs and veggies take up lots of room…. I was a little anxious to purchase a brand I wasn’t too familiar with but it has worked out great for us. We had struggled with an old GE side by side for over a decade. One of the best things we did was to change over to an all refrigerator and Electrolux made one of the right size for our finished kitchen. At the same time we replaced the fridge we decided to go with under counter freezers. We love those too. They are by Marvel and have a single door with 3 pull out SS baskets. It is so much more convenient than a side by side with shelving! The only down side is the lack of an ice maker but that was an easy problem to solve…. Blake’s take on the Electrolux brand has matched with our experiences. I really appreciate the video. Thanks for sharing!

I'll trust this gentleman's experience about switches being the most common failure. I'm just surprised. A really long time ago, I worked at a company that made the contacts for electrical switches and they were usually designed to last for many, many thousands of on/offs before failing. Of course, back then you expected an appliance to last no less than 25 years without service. 😊

I am a technician with 30 years experience. Basically his advice was right on while I would disagree with some of the things. I think he was too generous about how well some of the appliances work. And one of the reasons washers get smelly is because people don’t use hot water. Ive had front loaders for over 20 years and i’ve never had an issue with smell or mildew and i’ve never used any type of cleaner or clean cycle.

I've had a Bosch dishwasher for 20 years and it finally started having cleaning issues. It was very expensive 20 years ago, but I definitely got my monies worth. I loved that machine, it was quite, cleaned great but never fully dried the dishes. It looked great inside and out and I never had a service call. My son in law works for LG and we used his family deal to get a top of the line LG dishwasher with all of the bells and whistles. We have had it about six months now and it works well. I believe it makes a bit more noise than the 20 yr. old Bosch. It still doesn't dry fully, but a bit better than my old Bosch. Which doesn't really even compare since it's 20 years latter in technology? You would think a dishwasher could completely dry the dishes by now. It has a lot of features, wifi, steam, etc. I'm a gadget guy and love utilizing these features. After seeing all of the reviews, I'm a bit worried about the future. I still l have hope this dishwasher will provide many years of service. I really appreciate Blakes opinion, because that is the most valuable to me.

The one thing that I have heard consistently from repair men and videos like this, is that you want to have your icemaker be in its natural environment: the freezer area. So you will basically need a side-by-side if you want an in-door icemaker. Otherwise, just get the one at the bottom that you need to scoop out the ice. Even better is if you have an icemaker as a separate appliance altogether if you have the space.

I definitely agree. I know Samsung gets a lot of hate in the refrigerator market, but I got a barebones side-by-side with no fancy features about 5 years ago. The ice maker is in the freezer, and it only has 3 settings water, cubed, and crushed. So far it has been rock solid and has given me no problems, and with 4 to 5 people in the house we go through some ice.

Our LG fridge has had problems but not with its too ice makers, we use the one in the door and its only problem is that the ice clumps up so we pound lightly the plastic clear ice compartment occasionally to loosen up the ice then it works great. Our LG fridge is about almost ten years old and has the compressor replaced and had a problem with defroster in our bottom fridge failing but the cost of repairs was less than a new fridge and it has been a solid performer ever since the repairs. The technician removed back lower cover in rear of fridge for ventilation and added a few bricks for spacing against back wall for better cooling of fridge which seems to work well.

I think the thing with the ice makers isn't just the harsh environment but that water all over the world is extremely varied in quality and cleanliness. Even in the US, there are a lot of variations with mineral content so those minerals are building up in the lines, around the electrical components, and mechanical parts.

I have 9 Frigidaire appliances spread across 4 locations: 5 fridge/freezer combos and 4 large freezers that get about 20 below zero F. Three of those locations are vacation rental houses 1000 miles from our primary home. We standardized on Frigidaire because they "just work" and are easy to fix when they don't. Parts like shelving are easy enough to find, as are replacement ice makers. Vacation renters like to terrorize appliances, so this matters to us. The stand up freezers are at our primary home, and hold a lot of food (we homesteaded for a while and I tend to freeze lots of stuff). They stay cold, and if you stick to the the analog models (no digital controls) you can replace thermostats in less time that it takes to empty the machine. The number one problem with those is leaving the door ajar. People think the compressor fails because it won't cool anymore, but real issue is the thermostats burn out from staying on too long (while the door is ajar). Just replace the therm and it's good until you do the dumb thing again.

I replaced the piece of junk top loader with a new LG front-loader and suddenly my shirt collars are clean again and my electric bill is down by almost $30. Love my Speed Queen washer. I don't get why anyone would want a front-loader. Why not use gravity to your advantage with a top loader, vs have a washer w/ seals that collect mildew? Simple is best. Stainless steel drum won't break. I've got a SQ from 2012. No computer motherboards that can break. Plus, I like being to control the amount of water I use, and am fine spending more on electricity. Set the price, let me pay for it. High Efficiency isn't always preferable.

I’ve been in business 29 years next month, and we share some of the same thoughts. I only recommend Bosch dishwashers and Speed Queen laundry equipment. The LG top loader washers are good too. I don’t see them for service until about the 10 year mark. The GE top load washer is another story all together. Their transmissions leak oil within the first year of service. And the newly mandated R600a is problematic to say the least. I’ve diagnosed about a dozen refrigerators using it, all less than a year old, with locked up compressors.

In our previous Bosch diswasher when the racks started rusting, we called and had the "obligatory" long delay in getting to discuss the problem with someone. The CSR said we could purchase new racks for $500!!!! We said that we might as well purchase a new one. We did. In less than four years, the racks were rusting again. We called and the CSR said they would get back with us. Three months later, they said we could purchase new racks for half price, which ended up being about $100 (our price). We asked why on the previous model the CSR wanted to charge us $500? The CSR replied, because we charge back to the customer the cost of storage. The model you had was a certain age, and so we charge for the part, and the cost we incur for storing it. What a crock of crap.

bummer I really want that LG twin wash with side kick. But anyhoo same with Samsung. Our first Samsung fridge bought 2010 freezer started leaking 5½ years in. On and off repair we've had enough and retired it last year. Our 2nd Samsung bought Dec 2011 fridge started leaking Dec 2023 exactly 12 years later. Freezer is fine but we'll replace it with a local brand in my country as first choice. 2nd choice is Panasonic. 2010 cheap Samsung started not working 2017. Could still be repaired.

My #1 failure reason on microwaves = weak, crumbling plastic parts. If you ever have to take a screw out of that plastic, it just falls apart. SO COMMON. Especially over-the-range Frigidaires. I bought my Kenmore refrigerator back in 2003 and it quit working in 2019. Whirlpool was making refrigerators for Sears back then. I saw a Whirlpool refrigerator at the store than was on sale and it looked pretty much like my old Sears refrigerator. The ice maker looks slightly different and the controls in the newer refrigerator has digital control buttons. But it has been running just fine. I had read a lot of reviews and I had the impression that Samsung refrigerators have a lot of features but they don’t seem to last as long. I read about the LG issues also. My Whirlpool isn’t fancy but it looks nice and it works. It’s good information that he gave out about the microwave switches. The makers who put the pause feature on their machines should have explain why the that control feature is there.

Thank you, Blake. Really appreciate your honest reviews. I can confirm for two appliances we have his recommendation: GE refrigerator 25 years old accept the light bulb issue, runs without problems. LG top load and dryer no issues. You should tell everyone to level it once in a while. If it is not leveled correctly it'll not turn on. We had that issue and called several technicians. One came to have a look at it, and told us that a part($150) needs to be replaced due to a disconnect behind the start button. I found the same recommendations on youtube, which was a reason to trust the diagnostic. Since the cost seemed high, my husband wanted to try it before ordering the part. The reason why I'm letting everyone know is that the other two technicians said the similar things "Oh, LG washers are having issues and are not reliable". My husband found no issues with the parts. Leveled it and low and behold, it was working by the slightest touch. Now, searching for our Dishwasher problem, I see that you are given your honest recommendations. Other reviews on this channel are true as well. Thank you so much! Love your channel.

So glad to hear about Bosch; that's what I keep seeing online, and I have a friend who loves hers. That's our plan. For our needs, we basically found a particular French door/dual bottom freezer LG that works for us, but I'm leery about it now. :( I bought the Bravos Maytag washer/dryer, which again, suited my very specific needs (eg disability and short). I wish the washer had a buzzer when it finishes; a little plastic piece broke where you remove the detergent holder to empty water out, but it still works. I have trouble loading it so that it washes properly--comforters end up with a dry spot in the middle (top loading, impeller style). Once I actually watched it clean, I feel like too much laundry is sticking out of the water, using so little water. I now use specific higher-water level cycles now instead of letting it decide how much to use. I was very happy with them for a while, now, 5.5 years later, less so, but they're still functional.

I've had my matching Electrolux washer and dryer set for almost 2 years and have had zero problems. I like the front loaders from a water consumption standpoint and, even though they're gentler on clothes, they seem to do a better job getting them clean. My only complaint is with the dry. The auto (sensor) dry does not work well at all. Even set to the max, the clothes always come out a little damp. This isn't unique to Electrolux either: every auto dry dryer I've used seems to do the same thing.

Thanks so much for for leading with the microwaves, I really appreciate the tip on opening the door while still in operation. Since the locks are heavy duty plastic I never associate the contacts to be arcing. Does this still hold true with the press to release door opener? I have the older Maytag (5100 AAB) 2001, Made in Cleveland, OH, it's a 1000 W. I compensate for cooking today's recommended cooking time by pressing the 30 sec. feature. The range is the MGR 5770 Super Capacity Plus, the dishwasher is the Jet Clean Quiet Pack III. All are in as new condition, most visitors ask where can they buy these models. Little do they realize that they are over 20 years old. Then again that's when quality and durability were the best features. I agree with you on front loaders, I prefer the LG because of it's direct drive motor and the handle is part of the door, so it won't break off. Thanks for sharing your opinion and experience with us.

I needed to come back here and say. Thank you for making this video. One, for reminding us to buy matching appliances... you were right. The wife did comment on how she liked both of them matching. Went with the LG washer and dryer 5.0 and the 7.4 LG dryer. Our Samsung top load 5.2 panel fried on us just after having it for a year and 3 months...yeah..its on us that we didn't get a warranty for it..but the way it is and what Samsung said they were probably just going to give us a prorated amount instead of fixing it. But so far, the front-end washer is more quiet than the LG dryer... which is already really quiet. But the LG washer is much more quiet and seems more efficient the Samsung top load washer. So, we are very impressed..and it looks like it has a 10 year motor warranty but I haven't read in detail the info it came with..I'm just going off of what the front of the washer says. And this time we got the 5 year warranty parts and labor added on as well. It would be nice to see a detailed video on how to properly maintenance these as well as when.

I have a 19-year-old frigidaire side by side everything on it still works great but I'm starting to look around for a replacement even if I don't need it for a while. I'm starting to get the one morning all the food thawed twitches🥵

Thanks for the information. Went washer shopping today at a Mom & Pop local store that does both sales & service & was told exactly the same about the top loaders. I'm always suspicious when shopping to be recommended the most expensive thing that I'm looking for. But I do realize when you own your own business, you do strive for satisfied customers unlike a big box store that couldn't care less. Still undecided between the Speed Queen & LG at the moment.

Most technicians will tell you to pick the Speed Queen without question and we would agree if you have the budget for it. Usually, Speed Queens are the more expensive top-load options, but it's because they are using high-quality parts that last. I'm sure you will be happy either way as LG makes good washing machines. Good luck with your purchase!

Pick the Speed Queen… They have great service too, should you ever need it. Made in Ripon, Wisconsin.

I've had a Bosch dishwasher for three years and it's performance is flawless. It does nee to be cleaned periodically and the filter should be scrubbed at least monthly. We like it so much we recently bought a Bosch gas stove.

I can say that I have a Bosch dishwasher and LOVE it. Super quiet, cleans really well. I also got a Bosch induction cooktop. I bought a Samsung Fridge based on appearance/function and had a problem with the ice maker at the 5 year mark. That fridge is 10 years old now and if I replace it I will be looking at a different brand (and one of the ones recommended in this video!). My wall oven is Kitchenaid... I didn't hear this brand mentioned at all and wonder your opinion @BoulevardHome? It's 20 years old so far and still a workhorse. My washer/dryer are LG, also about 10 years old and still going strong, I would replace with the same in the future, great to know you recommend them!

I had a Bosch dishwasher for my former house. It was the best dishwasher among all that I had. I have a Whirlpool dishwasher in this house, it is okay but it does not clean as well as the Bosch. I have both LG washer and bottom freezer refrigerator for about 9 years without any problem and I love them.

Excellent summary of appliances. One thing to inform viewers is that in many appliances the top and bottom of the line are the same unit inside. I have bottom of the line $525, Bosh dishwasher and according the the online parts manuals the mechanical parts are interchangeable with the $1300 top of line. You get no more reliability with price.

My family has a Kelvinator refrigerator/freezer/ice maker running for 67 years straight, and a Brazilian Arno freezer/refrigerator working non-stop for 34 years, only recently developing a minor refrigerant leak, replenishable yearly. I can't understand how we went from that to "it's normal that it fails, it's dealing with a hard environment, cold, humid, electricity, etc". Why are we letting this happen? These corporate people are crooks.

Yes, our society is not what it used to be, honest and valued. $2,000 for a refrigerator today is larceny.

Excellent video!! I didn’t know that pulling a microwave door open to stop it was hard on the switch. I have been doing this because of the annoying loud 5 beeps when the timer reaches zero. Most models don’t have an option to turn off the sound. So, when I wanted to avoid waking up my family in the early morning, I’ve been yanking on the door.
