Speed Queen TR5 Normal ECO With Extra Rinse Cycle

Here's a demonstration of my new Speed Queen TR5003WM from summer of 2023. My previous washer was an early GE infuser washer from about 2007. That washer had its basket detached from the hub during the final spin. I wasn't downstairs when it happened but apparently it was very loud.

The traditional top-loader usually agitates clothing from the outter tub to the middle where the agitator cleans. In this TR series it's going the opposite. Because the the agitator is bolted to the tub and doing slow spins, it causes the clothing to move away from the agitator to your outter tub. Quite interesting to watch. 🤓

Things I learned: - I like using eco+extra rinse for the longer wash cycle and better rinse. - Wish every other mode had a longer full tub rinse agitation. - The washer is very particular with fabric. It can handle every fabric type at a full load, but steuggles hard to roll over if there's mixed fabrics. For exmaple, medium load and two jeans. The jeans won't roll. If you washed a full tub of jeans, then they will roll a lot. - Eco + heavy soil causes the motor to over heat. It's because the presoak spins the basket at low water level. - The agigitator does more squeezing than rubbing to get the clothes clean. - When the tub boumce around during each rotation, it means the clothes are being agitated by the bottom fins. Solution: TR7, free to customize any modes.

What makes you think the motor is overheating?

@@sinister184 Later into the wash it starts to smell like burnt enamel and the pauses during agitation happens more often. Once I saw the agitation speed go below what I thought was possible, and during the rinse cycle it filled the tub and drained without agitation. So I don't use ECO + Heavy Soil no more.

@@AnalogMedia. Gotcha. Thanks for the insight. I agree with you on the rise agitation though. I think they skimped on the rise time since they already had to up the wash cycle times and didn’t want the total wash time to be even longer.

Took delivery of a TR5 a few days ago. It cranks out the laundry. Laundry comes out clean and well rinsed. Been using the Auto Fill w/Extra Rinse setting except for comforters which get a full tank of water. The acid test was white athletic socks and they came out perfectly clean.

Thanks for posting. Seems like allowing the machine to auto fill is the way to go. Watching people do deep fill on regular loads seem to be part of what complaint of "low agitation" are coming from. Just let the machine do the work.

I have the TR7 from 2019 (updated wash action from what 2018 had.. ) my wash action looks just like yiours.. I went TR7 instead of TR5 as the electronic panel offers a ton of different options.. I have found the best combo has been heavy duty where i gert a full tub rinse.. my normal Eco does a spin rinse unless I select extra rinse... heavy duty with light soil, no extra rinse, and speed cycle gives me a 30 minute cycle time for lightly soiled clothes such as normal every day stuff, shower towels etc.. for extremely dirty things (I work on vintage busses for fun).. I do the double-wash life-hack.. where I select heavy duty, heavy soil, and extra rinse.. you get 2 full tub rinses in that mode.. so thus ill put detergent and water mix in the fabric softener dispenser so i get a double wash and still a full tub rinse.. its an art to properly load these machines.. automatically selecting high water is the wrong thing to do (I know some who do this).. you dont want the clothes to fully float, I have found when i do towels its a toss up of whether auto level gets it enough water.. ive had mine do an extra fill like yours did but ive also had it not put much more weater in and the towels are stagnant.. so with towels I typically do a load of 4 or 5 bath towels ob medium level and 6 or more at high level..

Nice video. I just returned a TC5 for a TR7. The TC had standpipe foam issues right out of the gate even with minimal soap and no eco mode; wasn’t going to deal with that bs. I wanted the traditional wash action, but I’m not disappointed in the TR. It’s like 80% quieter and seems to clean just fine. Not sure why purists bag on it so much.

No. Too slow for me. I need a machine that will go to work fast and get the job done. I dont have time for swirling things at a tortoise pace through detergent and water. Now back to the GE filter flow or the 70s series belt drive Whirlpool / Kenmores.

The TR on HD with medium soil is a 45 min cycle time. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the old-school washers, but most of those machines in a similar cycle would take at least 25-30 minutes. Pretty much anyone that's not running a laundromat can afford an extra 15 minutes.
