I’m so happy the Speed Queen is sending you a new lid. I bought a General Electric range from a scratched and dented outlet (PC Richard’s when I still lived in New York and called GE because it was missing two knobs and one drip pan. I was expecting to pay for them but not only did they send me the knobs for free but they sent us four premium porcelain drip pans and chrome trim rings for free and thanked me for buying their product because I told them that the only cooking appliances that I ever buy are General Electrics.

Yes that was very nice. Sometimes you get a good customer service rep. Same thing with my little Whirlpool portable dryer use to come with wheels now the new one I bought doesn't come with wheels anymore. The lady sent them to me free of charge, I was shocked. Speed Queen was very nice I told her I would purchase a lid and needed the correct part # she was going to give me 20% off. later emailed that they would send for free. I told I already purchased it. She said return for full refund.

What it is is that since the wash actions are relatively similar on this machine, it fills higher to protect the clothing against agitation. kinda like how your Amana filled all the way up by default on delicate.

Great, informative video - thanks!! Like some of the other commenters, I’m trying to decide between the TR7 and the TC5.. question: when does the lid lock actually lock on the TR7? The sales rep says the lid doesn’t lock until the spin cycle but in your video it looks like you’re bypassing the lock right after the wash cycle starts! Any clarification greatly appreciated!! Here’s what I miss about my old school washer: I used to keep the lid open with the water filling up the machine. I would load my clothes a few at a time and add the detergent a bit at a time, so the detergent is evenly distributed among the clothes!! No blue spots!! Then, after all the clothes are in the machine, I rinse off my detergent cup and close the lid!! I really think my clothes came out better this way!!

  • @petermaz701

When you first start the cycle, the washer does not engage the lid lock until it’s about ready to start agitating then you have to quickly jump it out because the lid will lock. The lid is already locked before the spin cycle or the drain cycle or during the wash or rinse cycle. The only time it is unlocked is in the very beginning when you first start a cycle so you could do what you used to do with the direct drive or your old washer you could put in clothes And put in your detergent.

Very informative video! Thanks for posting. Like many, I’m trying to decide between the TC5 and TR7. You mentioned you prefer the TR7 delicate over the TC5. Would you say the same for the other cycles? Specifically, Heavy Duty & Permanent Press? Also, what full model # is the TR7, please? I’m seeing some posts where SQ made changes and one is not able to defeat the lid lock. Current is TR7003WN. Thank you!

I think what you will find is that if you need "heavy duty" cleaning and you are trying to clean clothes from working in a mechanic shop/farm (dealing with REALLY dirty clothes) then the TC5 may be a better choice. The trade off is that it will be much "tougher" on the clothes due to the aggressive agitation. The TR models (TR3/5/7) use an "agitub" motion as seen here. Much gentler and SQ describes it as moving water through clothes instead of clothes through water. I hope this helps you or someone else that comes across. My family ended up going with a gently used TR5 and I am liking it so far. 4 kids with sweaty clothes and normal dirty laundry.

I come across your video and see that you had the lid open and it was filling when I do that to mind. It stops and I have to put the lid down in order for it to fill up. I saw your pen cap trick I tried to do that. So what did you have to do to keep the water running when you had the lid up? Help!😊

Hey, no problem the thing you saw me do was to defeat the lid lock now on KZread there are many videos just type it in the search bar on how to defeat the lid switch on speed, queen washer. It is so easy some people use a close pin I used a piece of Styrofoam you put it in the back of the machine right where your control panel is. There's a hole there and you'll see a metal bar, you slip a piece of cardboard or something in there neatly and that's it it's a very clear demonstration just type it in on KZread. The lid that I did with the pen cap that's the machine will be running with the lid open but when it goes to lock the lid, you could defeat it by doing that little trick that I did you don't have to wire anything or do anything you just trick the lid lock but that won't help you defeat the lid switch which is in the back right hand side look up the video. Have a great day and lots of luck.

So there are 2 lid locks? One in the front and one in the back? The main time I want to be able to have the lid open is when the machine is filling up, as I’ve mentioned in previous comments.. thanks for the great videos!! So, if you had not done the thing with the pen cap to make it click, the machine would have stopped, is that right? Your hack allowed the wash to keep going with the lid open?!?!
