Tial BOV on CUMMINS

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Just got my Tial Q on the Cummins. Works Great!! Little kit I put together no need for TPS. will work on a 12V or 24V

whenever really. typically when i shift if im pulling heavy or if i have to chop throttle under decent boost. my phatshaft doesnt like throttle chop at 30psi. the wastegate flutters slightly at that level.

interesting. so when shifting, do you use the bov? or when under heavy load

couldn't you wire in the switch with the clutch switch? may make it a little easier and maybe a little more accurate on the shift?

different on a diesel. doesn't create vacuum in the intake track because there is no throttle plate, butterfly valve, throttle body. technically i don't have to plumb a vacuum source to the valve as long as the pressure in the IC pipe can overcome the spring rate. the solenoid valve is however necessary as it essentially serves as throttle body. when button is pushed it stops the positive air feeding the top of the valve. same happens when throttle body closes on a gas powered vehicle.

What psi spring did you use ? Not the 7psi with push button ? I just did this set up and have it hooked to vacuum when normally closed but I can't get the bov to open even at 20psi of boost.

@@vorkski860 I think it was a only a 7psi spring maybe a 12 but I was feeding the top of the valve boost pressure off of the intake horn to help keep it closed so the pressure holding the valve closed was always boost pressure + 7lbs (or whatever pound spring I had). When I pushed the button (and later used a micro switch and a hobbs switch) the solenoid valve would switch and the top of the blow off valve would see whatever vacuum the factory vacuum pump was making plus the vacuum pump would get a little help because of course the remaining boost in the IC pipe was looking for a way out and would blow the BOV open even without the vacuum pump pulling it open.

@@vorkski860 I actually ran this without the help of the vaccum pump at all for a minute just for proof of concept. Instead of the vaccum sucking it open the boost in the IC pipe would burp it open when the solenoid valve would switch and whatever air was in the head of the BOV would just blow out of the open port on the solenoid valve (the port I later tied to the vacuum pump). I dont know how light of a spring you can get for the Tial.

@@ONEBADZ I appreciate the quick response. I am just an idiot and plumbed the solenoid wrong . I used an AEM boost controller. I was gonna say you shouldn't need a vaccum to open up due to boost psi and what ever psi spring to overcome is all and vent to atmosphere just like the turbosmart bov . Granted I don't think those were around when you made these vids years ago.

@@vorkski860 I was the first one I knew of playing with them and as you can see by comments I was called an idiot more than once. Diesel's dont need em blah blah blah. Then like a year later big companies started making em lol. I guess I should have reached out to someone to make the controllers for these things and started selling them myself lol. I later went to a microswitch on the throttle pedal ( had issues using cruise control though) and oddly enough lastnight I was on a long drive and started brainstorming this setup all over again incorporating a microswitch that interacts with the clutch pedal (sort of like the safety switch) that would let valve open as soon as you push the clutch in lol. Odd that you just happened to comment on this the following day lol. Glad you got it worked out man!!

A bov isn't used to "release excess boost", it's meant to release boost when you let off the throttle, to prevent compressor surge from the throttle body closing(pressure shoots back against the turbo- trying to reverse its rotation) bad on turbos. As well as lean conditions to some cars... Let the waste gate due it's job and control the boost... Take the bov off lol. End wall of text now.

  • @ONEBADZ

lol obviously, this was not intended to let off excess boost. This was a preliminary method to be able to release the boost while letting off to shift gears. After proof of concept I moved the actuation to a momentary on switch that was activated by throttle linkage when the throttle was released. You must not have seen any of the other videos of this setup on my truck. There's a full vid showing the system in its entirety after incorporating a the momentary on and Hobbs switches. System worked quite well but was later removed when a second turbo was added in a compound configuration as turbo bark was no longer an issue.

I'm having compressor surge on a stock turbo with ceramic heat coatings on the hot side and manifold. My wastegate isn't holding and i'm getting bark. I'm looking into a BOV because my truck will be getting custom tuned and having to adjust the wastegate on the truck is a PITA. 03 H.O. 5.9 Cummins with an HY35W for reference.

@@ONEBADZ i have, but there so meny and they dont show the directional pattern, theres all different kinds, with vague descriptions. Most dont switch unless theres 21psi present, from what im seeing on amizon, You dont happen to have a link or specifics? I know i need one with a normally open state, that will opperate from atleast 0 and up psi, that way it will open when no pressure is present and or vacuum is present. I cant find one with a diagram of its directional swtching though.

Don't get too boggled about it. It's all part of R&D. It's a proof of concept. After establishing that all worked and worked as intended a momentary switch was added to the turnbuckle assembly on the APPS and was fed direct off the battery through a hobbs pressure switch.
