Blow off valve on 6.7 Cummins

I have had the Turbosmart blow off valve on my truck for a while but I decided to make this video for you guys to answer any questions you might have and some of the questions I have gotten recently. I hope you guys enjoy the video and as always thank you for watching.

    Also there's wastegate flutter which can be confused for compressor surge(turbo bark). It's just the differential pressure in the line from the opening and closing.

    He is right when any pump (yes a turbo is an air pump) is dead head or a block in a line the pump is therefore stressed in a hydraulic pump it has a pressure regulator or it’s a pressure compensating pump it makes sense to regulate dead head pressure and it will help your egts cool off faster do to the pump not being choked up. Look how fast his egts came down

    Cool,a blow off valve done RIGHT on a diesel! They're kinda useless since we dont have throttle bodies, but for larger turbos or higher boost (non stock turbos) these do work. Turbo bark is BAD!!! I like diverter valves more than blowoff valves IMO, they;re more efficient. Basically just plumb your blowoff valve into pre turbo..keeps you spooled yet doesnt build boost.

  • @Cargill450

    @Cargill450

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes sir!! They are a little useless but I would rather not take the chance on damaging the turbo and once I go bigger I really want to have that safety net there. I'm not sure I have actually seen a diverter valve done on a diesel yet but that's a hell of a thought 🤔

    Well I should say every one is wrong when they say that the air moves backwards. Pump flow will never go backwards. It will however compress the air and once the air is to compressed the pump cavitates basically with super hot air it suddenly spins faster then the valves open up and it pushes air thus slows down but the valves close again this happens as you hear the chooo choo choo choo. But with the regulator, Blow off valve the pump just keeps pushing air keeping it spooled, and the air moving since the turbo is not a pressure compensating pump style. Since diesels today are making way more boost that they used to this is a must id say for any aftermarket turbo application making 50psi there abouts, or if you hear a choo choo you need it. Stock turbo won’t build enough boost to do it so this is for nothing on stock but aftrmarket big turbo or running twins or triples there is so much air volume that needs to go somewhere because when the turbo shaft gets hot air and it barks, or pulses it will cause damage. But I can tell you when you have a well tuned bov it helps spool time between gears for sure, I have one on my truck and make 50 psi. I notice a difference before and after, my Subaru has one too. And if they didn’t it would blow a boot if the turbo didn’t fail, thus v bands were invented but reall a bov would relieve the pressure and probably eliminate blowing boots at the pressure spike. But my piece of paper with a gold stamp isn’t worth the weight in gold I guess all those pump servicing classes were blowing smoke. Air moving backwards in a charged system. 😂 more like compressing .

    It's compressor surge that your relating to. If you have an aftermarket turbo, most companies use a anti surge compressor housing design. So if it were to ever create that back pressure the compressor housing has venting for it. There's no benefit to running a BOV in a diesel. There's just not. People that do are sucked in by the marketing scams. If you're that performance oriented to install a BOV in a diesel you should understand how big of a waste of fucking time and money it is. There's no dead end the engine keeps intaking air even on a full throttle high rpm let off. There's no throttle body. The engine still intakes air on a decel cycle, and the Wastegate does it's job as a differential valve and dumps the boost. Do not BOV a diesel. It's stupid and a waste of time and money. I'm only on this video to have video proof of the logic around adding one for somebody thinking of doing such....
