It's so impressive what you're able to pull out of the city bayous! Without the knowledge and understanding of the city's structure and fish's behavior most people couldn't do it. So glad that you are going to be doing the guided trips and hopefully it my schedule alignes I could get out there with you! Great video!

Just an observation I made as you fought that fish: I have read many times that supporting your rod above the handle with your free hand, as you did, changes the rods dynamics and could easily end with a broken rod. You’re the expert fighting these fish so I’m sure you know what you’re doing.

I had to move to AZ from Texas for work and man do I miss the gar fishing 😢 I had the Trinity and Brazos only a short drive from me and now I'm stuck fishing for carp and catfish in the city canals. Just doesn't do it for me.

@wildlifefishingshow They are cool. They're just not texas cool lol. I've got one just outside my back yard fence. There are some pretty big carp that put up a good battle and some canals have giant catfish. There was a kid who caught an 80# flathead a few years back. I guess any fishing is good fishing! If I can't fish for gar I'm gonna watch you do it!
I fish urban river spots up here in Colorado there always super unique and seem to hold all kinds of different fish you wouldn’t expect

They primarily do that in the larger bayous where they can pilot boats in and out. They tend to focus on surface level garbage, though, not really the sunken and buried stuff.
@BogMan7L

That would be the task of the Harris County Flood Control District and the USACE. It's never happened that I know of in the sixty years the bayous were channelized.

Incredible "animal" ?? You seem like a good fisherman, why waste your time in that polluted garbage "bayou" ditch? Take yourself below the Houston dam for big catfish or the beach for a variety of fish you can keep and eat. ...within regulations.

I am a (very) good fisherman, and I'm fascinated by animals and how they carve out a niche for themselves in man made environments. I have absolutely zero interest in eating these fish. And yes, fish are animals, and this is a bayou.
