I was shocked to see ear tipping here, honestly. I didn't think doctors did it at all.

I had the leg lengthening procedure done due to an injury that caused one leg to be almost 2 inches shorter. It was life changing and the pain reduction was worth the pain and therapy.

I was wondering about that because I went to school with someone who had to stick a wooden wedge in her shoes to be able to walk because of the leg difference. She just happened to grow like that, and didn't have any other options.

Some Little People have this done to make legs longer and even in length. There are several types of dwarfism in which this surgery can help. This is done for a medical reason. If someone has dysmorphia this might be an option. Because of the pain and the length of time for this procedure, a patient must really have all the data and an excellent surgeon. Not for the faint hearted.

@@westzed23 actually the more Life changing for little people is when they have it done on their arms. With this condition their arms are very short and it makes their life quite difficult. The procedure gives them much better quality of life as their ability to actually do things improves. From what I’ve seen they usually do both arms and legs…

I actually went to high school with a girl who was very beautiful and she had a genetic trait passed down from her dad where they both had one elf ear. It was mind blowing for me to see lol

I was thinking this when he mentioned the procedure. Unlike the other four, you could see a true purpose for limb lengthening but it's now apparently gone into the cosmetic direction (my guess is for Kevin Hart-type people, shorter than average but definitely not a dwarf).

Rally any cosmetic surgical procedure is a very individual choice. I personally wouldn’t do this but I also wouldn’t get breast implants or liposuction. The recovery period and time away from my normal life is not something I’m interested in. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be worth it for someone else 🤷‍♀️

Not all leg length surgeries are cosmetic, a kid I grew up with had it done to help lengthen and straighten out the bone to help prevent extreme arthritis in adulthood. Last I heard, it had definitely helped

@@tookitogo well, it technically is. These colored lenses sit over the recipient eye. So it is a lense, placed over the eye. While it's under the later my contract lenses would be, these companies conflate the two to the point that a laymen would be forgiven for thinking them the same

Notice how in most of the pictures of the leg lengthening surgeries it's usually only on one leg? That's because usually it's not done for cosmetic reasons, but rather because one leg is shorter than the other. This can cause back pains for example, so it's better to get both legs to the same length

Cosmetic reasons _have_ been becoming increasingly prominent, tho, especially among red-pill guys who want to "looksmaxx" (i.e. "masculinising" surgeries; things like calf + pec implants, synthol in the arms, ab-etching, etc) bc they're convinced that it'll make them more attractive to women. Also to a lesser degree among some transmen, who were naturally petite & feel that it interferes with their "passing".

Can’t imagine the limb lengthening surgery. I had to have a limb shortened due to a slight deformity and it was excruciating. I can’t imagine having a bone cut into for vanity reasons. I was awake, and the sound of the saw was horrifying. Then there’s the hardware. I had to have that removed 21 years later. Yeah. Don’t mess with your bones unless it’s medically necessary.

Limb lengthening surgery can be life changing for little people. My relative who has Achondroplasia had this performed and it greatly improved her quality of life. It would have been worth noting that in your video.

My boyfriend was born with a leg length discrepancy and had to have that insanely painful procedure done for his back and hip pain. It has been a TOUGH journey!

You think surgeons would tell people to wear the implants in their bras before signing on to increased size.

Yeah, I’m a little disappointed he didn’t mention that the ilizarov/spatial frame (limb lengthening/straightening procedure) is a life changing procedure for so many people. I’ve had it done three times to help me after being run over by a truck and having crooked legs as a result years after the accident. Yes, I wouldn’t recommend it for cosmetic reasons, but that’s not the primary reason people have it done.

What is recovery like? I may be going in for an osteotomy to fix a leg length discrepancy (2cm) some time. I'm trying to decide if I should stick with a heel lift or get the length fixed.

@@survivinutah it probably depends on how strong your leg is. On one of my legs, the recovery was really long and more painful. But I have very little muscle tone and am missing a lot of soft tissue. My other leg that was less damaged and was stronger had a much smoother recovery. Either way I’m glad I did it since it was also correcting vagus deformity (knock knee). For me, recovery took roughly a year.

My S curve scoliosis has me at 5foot even , doctors have said that I would have been around 5foot 7inches tall without the curvatures and I have always felt a little cheated.

Ear pointing is, in the body modification community where it’s actually performed, referred to as “ear pointing”. And I have yet to hear any convincing evidence of anyone doing it for supposed auditory improvements. It’s done for aesthetic reasons.

I had to have my first rib removed, tiny rib near collar bone, because it caused blood clots in my arm. I lost the feeling in my arm and shoulder because of a complication of the surgery. The amount of discomfort and challenges this surgery has caused I couldn't imagine choosing to have a rib removed for cosmetic reasons.

Honestly at 37 weeks pregnant having less ribs sounds great 😂 my ribs are constantly on fire 🔥 my doktor was actually worried that baby actually had broken one rib in my left side because of the pain I was describing, luckily nothing broken just severely abused🙈

I’ve never been pregnant but I’ve had broken ribs and it was excruciating for a couple of weeks. The only movement that didn’t cause hideous pain was blinking my eyes. I couldn’t imaging combining both.

I’ve come across research in the bone extension procedure before, interestingly it has a very low infection rate. It’s actually based on a technique developed pre-antibiotics. The researcher I spoke to theorized that the movement and separation of the bone actually recruited significantly more innate immune cells than a typical wound. This resulting in far fewer infections than one would first guess. (This information was from animal models, not humans though so there is always a chance things perform differently)

It is called Ilisarov frame and developed in 1950. An Ilizarov external fixator (Ilizarov frame) is a ring-like brace (see figure 1). The frame is applied to the outside of the limb and connected through the unbroken part of the bone inside the limb. It was pretty innovative for his time.

Yeah it ends up crippling a lot of people though and for 100% cosmetic reasons it’s a bit ridiculous. We don’t wanna create a real life south park episode where people’s kneecaps start exploding from leg lengthening surgeries.

I had a female friend who was very tall. A doctor told her he could shorten her legs, but she opted not to do it.

I've considered it, but they only really do it in the legs, so, like, not proportional in any way

i currently am 'recovering' of that limb lenghtening procedure. My right leg was longer then my left and let me tell you i took me 6 months to get to a height that was good and i'm still not done. I had it on my upper leg and for those 6 months my leg couldn't bend so now i'm have to go to physical therapy almost everyday. It was and still isn't fun but it had to be done

I have a coworker that had the surgery to have longer arms and legs. he admits that it was a nightmare but worth of it. of course, his case is a bit "special". he didn't do it to look good. he did it because he has dwarfism. even with that extension he has lots of trouble driving his car because he is still too short. sometimes, no matter how insane and extreme a surgery is. you need to take the risk.

I have points on both my ears, my mother said I have “Pixie Ears”. At 69 years of age, I can say that no one ever noticed them, I was never made fun of, and sadly, I never met a real pixes. There is still a chance tho!

What the actual f*ck? I was born with elf ears and I was bullied awfully because of that. I had plastic surgery to make them human ears when I was 20. I can’t believe people would pay to have their ears shaped like that! 🤯

I did a form of the limb lengthening thing when I was in 2nd grade. I had an RPE(rapid pallet expander) in my mouth and it was terrible! But I have a pretty smile now so… 😃

One of my friends, her daughter had it done on both legs, she was born and still is tiny, about 49 inches tall, but she isn't a dwarf. She was suppose to have it done twice, but it was so painful so it was done only once.

Rib removal is done Italy often. When I had my tummy tuck they asked if I wanted a few removed. It felt as though I was shopping.

I wouldn't mind elf ears. However, the rest, no bloody way

The limb lengthening surgery does have many benefits for certain people, like those with dwarfism, those whose lack of height is affecting their quality of life, people who've been in accidents that resulted in uneven limb length. To be honest, as far as I've seen, people hardly ever do it for aesthetic purposes

There are some people who do it for purely aesthetic reasons, mostly outside the US. There's a Vice documentary about people doing it in India and the social pressure that people face there.

My sister had the leg lengthening thing done on one of her legs. She was born with cerebral palsey and one of its effects for her was her one leg being much shorter than the other

I had to have a pallet expander before getting braces so I wouldn’t have to have my teeth pulled (orthodontist recommendation, not my choice) and it sounds like that last one a bit but instead for my jaw. I would have to turn the screws four times a day and it hurt like hell!!! Like I was punched in my nose and jaw. I couldn’t imagine doing something like that but in my legs 😬

Rib removal "can" be painful? I had 2" of cartilage removed for a nose repair. It was incredibly painful.

As someone with a rib that isn't in place right now, having it removed doesn't sound that bad. But I'm going to physio soon thankfully, and I have a good manual therapist. Although it does make me wonder if there's a better way to keep joints in place. I likely have EDS (waiting for a specialist) and it's painful having bones slide out of place or into nerves as frequently as I do, especially in the neck.

I got a muscle caught on a rib when I was younger and had anorexia. I guess that's common in extremely thin people. It was excruciating every time I breathed!

I had an external fixator on my leg(due to an accident) and still have osteomyelitis. It sucks please don't do it on purpose. I was sick (102 fever every day among other issues) finally an infectious disease doc said "I have seen this before it is ...)some relative of Mersa) only available in hospitals I can get It under control BUT you can never go out if it is below 50 degrees (he was right) I am no longer constantly sick but cannot spend more than a few minutes in the cold

I'd def get the ear-points if it was cheap, safe & not horribly painful to recover from (IDK about other ppl, but I wake up with sore cartilage just from sleeping too deeply on my side if I haven't moved all night) bc I think it looks otherworldly + elegant, & it's a pretty subtle mod that could easily be hidden under hair if interviewing for a corporate job. But my friend had to relearn talking after her tongue, + apparently eating sucked for a while, too, & that's a big nope for me.

I shattered my lower arm in February 2023. I needed radial joint replacement, and titanium plates installed to fill in my ulnar bone. My question is whhhhyyy would someone mess with their bones voluntarily?!?! My injuries are so painful, and the rehabilitation will take months. People can be so stupid.

The inner side of the top of my ears have a slight natural point. Learned that from a stranger who noticed my ears and had the same thing and told me all about it, I'd never noticed before. I just looked it up it's called Stahl's ear

Rib removal is INSANE!!!! Those RIBS are there for a REASON!!!!! On another note... Being 1" taller? Who cares! I have broken my left leg 19 times and my right leg 21 times ( no joke or lie- I have a health issue and very fragile bones) The pain involved in gaining that 1" isn't worth it. Nor the risk of infection which exists for any surgery. The risk of this procedure causing infections is sky high! You are opening the bone in a semi sterile environment! (Because there is no way to be 100% sterile!)

As someone with misophonia, I don't want to hear better. Bad sounds are objectively louder or more prominent by default.

Would you consider removing ribs that are misshapen,assymetrical and with surgical hardware inserted, due to childhood physical abuse and later trauma, as an "extreme" surgery as doing it purely for cosmetic reasons? Corset brace for a scoliosis partially reshaped lower , mobile ribs, and the most imflicted deformity is on the last connected ,immobile ribs - I would only like to remove the deformed frontal parts, leaving the "safety cage" of the side ribs. Would be nice to have a normal looking torso (I'm very low on body fat,leam- muscular so the abnormalities really show...) and leave the scars of the past behind. I know there are surgeons that perfom cosmetic rib removal surgery in US, (it's virtually unheard of in Europe) but from what I've seen only removing the last mobile ribs from incisions in the back.

Wasn't limb lengthening surgery invented to straighten deformed legs? An acquaintance of an acquaintance had it done as he has Dwarfism. His lower legs were curved or bowed, he had to walk with walking stick because it was difficult and had the surgery to allow him to walk easier. It worked, he got 4 inches taller, but his legs were straightened enough where he could walk normally.

I heard that the penial lengthening surgery only effects the flaccid appearance not the actual length when hard. Is that true? What's the average length gained from this procedure? Is it really worth it?

I need an osteotomy because I have a leg that's 2cm shorter than the other and the difference has destroyed my SI joints and has curved my spine. Now I'm nervous about getting it done. I should probably bite the bullet and get it done anyways so I can go back to work.

Having my ears pointed is a huge goal of mine. No one in Australia does it. Well, no one I'd trust.

Research Sampaa Von Cyborg. He travels to different countries to do ear pointing. He has endless proof of his process and has social media that shows it. I reached out years ago and at the time it was less than 2k to do, but I would have to travel to Arizona to do it. That was about a decade ago and he's still at it.

The elf ear procedure is the least dangerous procedure at least. Sure it´s unusual but I don´t think it´s much different than having a nose job... probably less painful too.

I will say, although I 100% agree with previous posts stating the practical benefits from leg lengthening, I don't think it's fitting to criticize him for not mentioning those points in this video--this is a plastic surgeon commenting strictly on the cosmetic side of things. Not the functionality.

I'm not sure why elf ears are that crazy. Maybe it's because it's a body modification and not a plastic surgery, but if that's the case then ALL body mods should be listed. It's not a dangerous procedure like tongue splitting can be, and the chances of complications like infection or necrosis aren't any higher than any other procedure. I definitely don't see it as being worthy of being on this list with stacked implants and leg lengthening.

The limb-lengthening is some Gattaca shit.

I'cw had two non those last procedures due to a motorcyle accident and believe me is too messed up and ugly to be done as cosmetic surgery. Those people toe mental health!

Ear pointing is a rather small procedure, requiring maybe 2 or 3 stitches per ear and the removal of about 5 by 2 mm of cartilage. Removing one's wisdom teeth is a more complicated operation. I had mine done by a reputable body mod artist over a decade ago and am very happy with my points. Honestly, I think this was included just to rile people up and get comments. You're welcome, I guess.

My dad was born a dwarf, the doctors wanted to do that leg lengthening surgery on him back in the 50's.

Years ago I wore a steel boned corset which took my waist in by 4 inches. Yeah, don't do that.

I've heard of Little People getting limb-lengthening surgery. If you have bowed legs, it's not just cosmetic.

The fact that people look at their ribs and think, "oh these things that help protect all the squishy parts keeping me alive? Let's get rid of a couple because I'd look so cute." I saw numerous comments discussing medically necessary leg lengthening but I think Dr. Youn was referring to it being done for non-medically necessary reasons. Many years ago I watched some guy go on a talk show and he had that procedure done in another country just because he wanted to be taller to "feel more masculine". Can people stop messing with their bones unless it's medically necessary? (I'm including an improvement in quality of life as necessary in this case because that applies to some people's situations).

If there’s one thing I’ll never understand, it’s why women will deliberately put themselves through the pain of having large breasts. As someone with naturally large breasts myself I can tell you that I don’t recommend it. Not to the extent that I’ve seen some women go to. It is VERY hard on your back and neck. It can throw your spine out of whack if you’re not careful with your movements. I’m a DDD/F. My back, neck and even shoulders hurt often because of it. I get that a lot of women do it for health reasons. If you’ve had to have a mastectomy for any reason, God bless you. But if you’re going to do it for cosmetic reasons just please be aware of what you’re getting yourself into.

My mom has big ones, mine are of the tiny size. I toyed with the idea of getting implants in my 20s and she vehemently disagreed. I’m 40 now and so glad I didn’t. She’s still complaining about her rack, and I wear a padded bra if I care enough to put one on. Sending all the back hurting, big knockered, women good vibes.

Women with flat chests are called boys, bullied and not considered real women because of a lack of "female" traits. I wanted implants when I was younger exactly because of bullying, but as an adult I don't care anymore as it's not important, a body is supposed to work great, not to look perfect. What people don't get is that it's not the surgery that changes your life, it's just attitude and confidence. And in general people (who don't have deformities and do it just for cosmetics) don't need a plastic surgery, but a therapy fr.

To add a different perspective, I have naturally wide shoulders but disproportionately small breasts. It always looked odd, & interfered with how my clothes fit; we're talking 40in shoulders & shallow-B -cup bosoms. Since I sized up to a (single) D, my body finally looks balanced & I'm just so much more confident; the funny thing is that I'm still a pretty modest dresser, so I don't really ever "show them off", but it's just nice to finally feel like my breasts fit the rest of me. The humungo-boobs, tho? I agree, it's baffling. My bestie is a natural G-cup, & it makes her miserable.

Why can removing a rib for cosmetic purposes be a bad idea? Like it's crazy you have to ask.

I have 4 extra ribs, extra bone in both feet & a torus in the floor of my mouth under my tongue. Imagine the pain I’d go through getting the extra ribs removed!!!!!

Depends on the size of the difference.

With limb lengthening, I’d worry that the arms would appear disproportionate to longer legs. The rib thing looks the scariest to me.

I had a friend who got the lenth extansion things so she could get the mimimum hight to go to the police academy.

I have a friend who's had elf-ear (tho her surgeon called it pixie-ear) surgery. She's also had her tongue split. Not my ideal aesthetic, personally. Cool chick, tho.
