The episode he watched was an old one. She started as a fat model (she said it in the original episode) and her husband was attracted to that. She did eventually leave him and does help others at Dr Now's clinic with their weight loss. Her friend and her daughter were her only close support system. The last update I saw on her she kept the weight off and looks great!

I feel like her husband being attracted to her at that weight is a control thing. Someone who is so heavy that they have mobility issues is more dependent on their partner. He expected her to be dependent on him. He expected to be the only one to give her validation. Ultimately, it's an abuse paradigm, and I'm glad to hear she's out of that relationship now.

It absolutely is a control thing. I have an ex who, granted not to this extent, would encourage me to gain weight and would actively hold our relationship over my head if I ever expressed any interest in losing weight. He did this while knowing I have severe body image issues as a result of having an eating disorder. He would say the same things to me-“I won’t be attracted to you anymore” “you’ll be repulsive to me if you lose weight” It’s a control thing. He did it because he knew if I found myself repulsive, I wouldn’t leave him and would be entirely emotionally dependent on him when it came to my mental health and confidence. It is about control.

My max weight was 352 and I am so glad Dr. Youn understands the complexity of becoming this big and how multifaceted it is. I have had very rude drs in the past. One time I was so happy that I had lost 20 pounds and I actually had a doctor say, that is nothing and it is isn't the time to celebrate, you have a long way to go... Never went back to that one. I am happy to say With diet and exercise I am 280 and still losing. I am in a bariatric program to get the sleeve, but I am seriously considering losing weight without the surgery. I have the tools, am starting to like exercise, especially swimming. I have a family member that isn't as bad as this jerk of a husband but I have learned to see through his insensitivity. He is jealous that I am losing weight and he isn't. I have tried to help him but it always leads to an argument so he has to get there on his own but I am not going to let anyone hold me back from the healthy body I see on the horizon.

Doctors are often the worse part, they are do fat phobic. I was talking to a girl once who at some point could only seem to loose weight by starving herself. When she told her doctor the reason she lost weight was because she didn't eat and hadn't in 3 days the doctor told her that was great! Seriously, since when is it better to be anorexic than it is overweight? And when a doctor refuses to test you for problems and tells you any problems you have are just because of your weight. Those Doctors are just plain lazy. Though, honestly I don't think this guy is any less fat phobic than most Doctors, but that is just my impression of him.

Zsa Lynn is amazing! It’s so great to see her transform from a sad, hopeless woman, to a joyful, determined one! I’m sure there are difficulties and I know it’s a real struggle. But I think this lady has what it takes to reach her goals and have the beautiful life she deserves. It’s so sad that her husband is an on board with her journey to health and happiness. But you know, some people need something to push against, and maybe he is that something for Zsalynn. She deserves a better partner. I hope someday she will find one. But it looks like she has learned to be her own best friend and that’s a wonderful thing.

I always appreciate your approach to weight issues. You're always so sympathetic and understanding. Those of us who are considered morbidly obese are often not fat because we want to be, there's a lot of factors that go into how we gain the weight and it can be so, so difficult to lose the weight when you've put it on. Medication, Genetic factors, difficulties in getting the needed exercise and poverty making it difficult to get healthy food all goes into it and as much as people think they're "helping" when they call out a fat person for being fat and calling them "lazy," they don't often realize how damaging that is. Or, they do and they don't give a crap. It's just really nice to see people who understand what a struggle it is when the resources that should be there to help you are not obtainable, or actively work against you.

My mom has struggled with weight her whole life, dieting intensely most of my life and then some. She and my dad have been together for 40 years, married 38 this summer. Time and again my dad has been my mom's biggest obstacle. She goes on a low/no fat or low/no sugar program? He drags her along to specifically order dessert somewhere, noisily poring over the menu and then noisily enjoying whatever he eats. If she, in the pre-kid or early-kid days, used the weight-resistance machines at the gym? He cracked 'he-woman' jokes. The last several years, she's been struggling with a condition that was recently diagnosed as Lipedema - 'mutant' fat cells that can't be lost through diet or liposuction because they solidify in amongst connective tissue. She's had terrible sleep, for around 3/4 hours a night on average, confined to sleeping in recliners or other chairs/couches because laying flat hurts. It affects her waking flexibility and pain levels, also - along with making it difficult to find clothes that fit properly/comfortably. It's genetic, and I seem to have it also. It's said to get worse with puberty, pregnancy, and menopause - she's experienced all three of those phases, and is very thick in the butt/thigh area and her upper arms. Surgery to fix it is likely to be staged, expensive, and largely or entirely blocked by her insurance. My dad's primary contribution - riding along to her diagnosis, and spending the last several years bemoaning that she doesn't sleep in their shared bed anymore, while telling her she's not trying hard enough to get the problem dealt with. Did I mention dad thinks diagnostic teams like House's are real? It's a mess... He also has primary knowledge/control over the finances, even though mom has become the primary income on their sole, shared bank account.

I started losing weight Jan 6th, 2021. I had a Roux-En-Y bypass in January. I am down 80 lbs since, 60 since the bypass. I have 120 lbs to go, but I definitely can't eat as much. And I don't like sweets anymore. Getting into a pair of store bought jeans felt SOOO good. Barbeque chicken doesn't taste as good as losing weight feels (and my stomach hates dark meat chicken now) I don't eat much, like a bird, but it's okay. I can use a regular cart to grocery shop instead of a scooter.

Love these stories ❤ It was stories like this that encouraged me to get help. I had my bariatric surgery (sleeve) a year ago (April 2022). My highest weight was 460ish. On my one year annivery of surgery I was down to 297. I haven't been in the 200s since middle school (so over 16 years). Even if I don't lose anymore weight I'm okay. I'm healthier than I was. Off high blood pressure meds, and can do so much more than I ever did. Traveling, seeing, and doing more now. Still might be considered morbidly obese, but am happier then I was before and that's all that matters to me.

As I have mentioned in other videos I am physically disabled and as a result for some reason, I had a lot of appointments with psychologists etc. One time shortly after I was married and I was looking for employment, I had one of those meetings with a psychologist. He kept asking about my marriage and he kept making reference to men taking advantage of people who had disabilities. I was upset and when I told my husband, he said he wanted to punch this doctor in the nose. In a way I was glad my husband never could make contact with this professional. Then I read a book and the author was in a wheelchair. When she talked about a medical appointment with a doctor and her doctor mentioned that her husband needed someone to satisfy him in the bedroom and her husband wanted to confront that physician and punch him in the nose. I felt a little better hearing about someone whose husband wanted to punch a doctor in the face. I healed a great deal after reading that book because I realized people have negative views to people with disabilities. I had an appointment with a physical and rehabilitation doctor, I and during the consultation, he did not agree with what I was telling him, and he smiled at me and rolled his eyes. I can still bend my finger in a 90 degree angel in the opposite direction on my paralyzed hand. IF I COULD HAVE MADE CONTACT WITH THAT DOCTOR, NOT EVEN A PLASTIC SURGEON COULD HAVE FIXED HIM UP.. I think Plastic Surgery could take a whole new direction, with these professionals and other individuals opening their mouths out of context. My marriage lasted for 47+ years until his death in 2019 and he never took advantage of me,

It's taken 10 years, but I'm nearly where I want to be. My doctors were of no help and wouldn't even give me the name of a reputable dietician so that I could get help that way. I was 495lbs at only 4'8" tall. Now I'm 138. I know I did all the work, but I wouldn't have even known how to start if it wasn't for this show. One day I would like to meet him and tell him how influential he was to my journey.

I feel for her when she talks about her legs and joints hurting. Have been overweight most of my life. I have nerve damage affecting both legs now. I have PCOS , and started gaining a lot of weight in my teens. It went undiagnosed until my late 40s. I got fed up with doctors dismissing my symptoms. I finally found a doctor that listened. I had so many tests. Ultrasounds, CAT Scans, MRIs meetings with a great endocrinologist, and dietitian. I was offered bariatric surgery, but declined after researching it. I figured no matter what I needed to learn to eat for my body type. I was close to 380 pounds. After making changes, and starting aquafit I started to loose weight. I have lost about 130 pounds over a few years. It is staying off which is new to me. You have to take those first steps and ask for help from medical professionals.

Truth. The reality is the medical industry has very little understanding of weight and why different people gain and loose weight. One doctor says one thing and another doctor says another thing What works for one person doesn't for another. The diet industry is the only muilti billion industry I know that continues to grow year over year due to repeate customers despite a 95% failure rate.

I feel so sorry for people like that, for anyone overweight. I was overweight myself twice in my life and hated every minute. And it isn't easy to lose weight when it seems like food is your only emotional support or entertainment; the only thing you have to cheer yourself up. All that combined makes it a huge hurdle to overcome. Because I spent those times overweight, I know how difficult it is to be heavy. The derision, yes, horrible. The self-consciousness and self-hatred. But even more so, coping with simple day-to-day activities when the fat gets in the way. It's awful. Not to mention, most of all, the health risks. I won't tell anyone what it takes to lose the weight. That's each person's decision and choice, to me be made or not, according to them. I won't judge. All I want to say is, I really understand.

I’ve had gastric bypass surgery and have kept the weight off for the most part until I got osteoporosis and now it’s starting to creep up on me again. I think the osteoporosis was brought on very early because of the dieting I did all my life. I had my spine rebuilt in my 50s and it has had to be redone multiple times because of the osteoporosis. The only physical exercise I can do now is to swim and I’m not actually able to do the swimming but I go into the pool and do the exercises and walking. I don’t feel any pain in the water so it’s a win-win. I like it and it helps me. Thank you for sharing your expertise in all areas of health. ❤
