The feeding tube made me cry because my daughter had anorexia and nearly died at age 19…. She was only 86 pounds….it was torture for me as a mom to watch…but happily she’s a survivor…she’s now 22…and is stronger thank God.

Blessings to you and your daughter. I’m truly happy she not only is surviving but apparently thriving. And clearly she has an awesome support system. As soon as I watched Chloe’s video clip, I immediately went to her tic tik and followed her… and watched a few more of her vids before coming back to Dr. Youn’s video. Her courage is incredibly inspiring.

As an aquarium keeper and vet nurse, the fish-face one squicks me out beyond just the toe-jam factor. Fish can often be infected with mycobacterium (otherwise known as fish tuberculosis) which is a zoonotic illness, meaning it can be passed on to humans, especially through superficial wounds. Although it isn't like regular tuberculosis, in humans it presents as skin lesions and pustules... NOT something you want on your face. Bleh.

I remember the craze of coating yourself in baby oil and sitting in the sun. Did that with my friends a lot. Got tan, that's for sure. But now many years later I'm paying the price for all that tanning. I've had to have skin cancers removed, I have actinic keratoses patches, and of course wrinkles and dry skin. If I could go back, there's no way I would sit in the sun with baby oil all over me. Yes, I'd be pale, but my skin would also be healthy and clear. BEWARE!!!

The woman in that burn TT is so inspirational! I’ve followed her story from the beginning on KZread when the news broke on the volcano eruption. That cruise line was so wrong for not making them aware of the status. She lost her sister and her dad. Then the country wouldn’t even send in rescue services!!! It was kind people with personal aircraft that saved them. Just a heart breaking story! Her and her mom are just incredible people!!

My dad would lay on the tin roof, in his 1970s basketball shorts, and cover himself in baby oil. During the winter he’d go to a tanning bed we had in our little town, one where he was friends with the lady so he could just keep turning it back on. He’d be in that tanning bed for 1 to 1.5 hours at a time. By the time he passed in 2020, at 63, he looked like he was in his 90s because of all the sun damage. His skin was literally like leather: dry, cracked, perma tanned, scaly, etc. I am now in my 30s and I use sunscreen religiously so I don’t end up looking like he did. Thank god he never got skin cancer (that we know of).

Ok, so growing up in the 60s, we did a lot of stupid stuff. I remember using a peel off skin mask that was supposed to clean your pores, but ripped out your facial hair and probably some skin too. And we all coated ourselves with cocoa butter and coconut oil when we tanned. (Sunscreen? No such thing back then.).

Even in the 80s it was commonplace to use oils for roasting your skin in the sun. They used to sell a particular brand of tanning oil here in Australia which was purely for cooking your skin, with no spf in it. The "tropical" smell of that tanning oil was synonymous with summertime when I was a kid.

The key to avoiding sun poisoning if you have photosensitivity is avoiding sun exposure within a certain uv range. I can’t have even 5 minutes of sun exposure over uv level 5 without swelling up and itching. I don’t need a burn. Any exposure does it. Full coverage sun clothing including gloves is the only way to be outside in the summer.

And the tanning with cooking spray is horrifying to me! 😱🙊 Basically you are just making yourself into a rotisserie chicken but with harmful UV rays that will cause cancer and prematurely age your skin. Our skin is our largest organ, let’s take better care of it. 💗

As a pasty white dude that lives in the Pacific NW that used to LOVE laying out during the summer in my 20s. ..don't do it! Now I'm all about sun screen on my face AND avoiding the direct sun, hang out in DEEP shade most of the time. ( blue skys = UV exposure even if you aren't being hit by direct sunlight.) I will even walk around with an umbrella as a parasol until like 2:30 if I'm out at the river etc. Go out into the direct sunlight for at most 12-15 mins every 40 mins between the hours of 11-2. (Which is when you get the most Vit - D from the sun.) And if you really want to tan, wait until about 2pm. Flip every 12 mins, go swimming ever 24mins for at least 20 mins to deactivate the UV in your skin already (and cool the skin and take a break from the skin) . It's how I was able to get Latino dark several years and NEVER burned. I'm still pretty sure that that kind of tanning damaged my skin! ..but really, DONT TAN! You don't need to be tan to get enough Vit-D. Also, if you are out after 4pm even in the height of the summer, sun block isn't really needed. (Well, maybe still put some on your face) The amount of UV is pretty darn low by then. Its really the time between 11-2 that gets you. There is less atmosphere blocking the suns radiation so it cooks you quickly. And friggen, don't sun your private parts! I goto nude beaches... sun burn down there hurts like crazy because the skin is so sensitive.

My parents’ generation used cooking oil to tan because they didn’t know better. They also smoked like chimneys. Young people now have the knowledge about the horrors of skin cancer so they should be embracing their natural healthy skin tone instead of literally frying themselves.

I am very fair skinned and burn pretty easily. I was kinda dumb when I was younger and decided to try a tanning bed. They said I should start out with 2 minutes because of my skin tone. I got the worst burn of my life. I missed 2 days of work. I decided it wasn't worth it and never tried to tan again.

Hello, as far as I know, you have to multiply the sun protection factor by the skin indicator to get the number of minutes you can stay in the sun. Now my question is, how long do I have to stay out of the sun before I can go back into the sun?

In Australia when I was growing up, beaches had vinegar boxes on most beaches because of the stingers. I don't know if it is still done that way as back in the day, sometimes, you'd go to use the vinegar and some wanker had stolen it.

I had always heard the jellyfish rumor to be that peeing on the jellyfish would get it to release if it's clinging onto you, not help with the pain. I live hours from the ocean, so I'm not even sure if they ever cling to people or not. That's the myth I need investigated, haha

it doesn't help with either and on certain species of jellyfish makes the sting worse. if the jellyfish is stuck you can dump water on it

Yeah you should never use urine on a jellyfish sting, but it is advised to use vinegar or warm or hot(not scholding) water. Cold water is not recommended as it can pump more toxins into the skin.
