The Brutal Murder of Helene Pruszynski
Helene Pruszynski had just moved to Denver for an internship at a radio station. On January 16th, 1980, Helene left the radio station, but never made it home. After her body was found in a field the following morning, it would take 40 years for her killer to be brought to justice.

As awful as this case is, I think (for me) the worst part is that her killer promised her he would let her go and then brutally killed her anyway. Of course, we have no guarantee of how Helene's life would have gone if she'd survived this monster. I saw a different video about this case and the presenter played an audiotape that was made of her when she was in high school working on the school paper. Ahe seemed like a bubbly, somewhat naive girl, but weren't we all at that age? The man who killed her got to enjoy his life. I hope that's over for him and that his life is nothing but regret and misery now.
After the sentencing, when her sister Janet recalls after Helene's murder, how she "cried herself to sleep". That sentence hit me like no other.

I know you can't judge someone's personality on a few photos but Helene looked like a really lovely person. A soft and beautiful smile and expressive eyes. R.I.P Helene and condolences to her family.
TIM has been of an exceptionally high standard since the first word was spoken. Jiles has the art of the storyteller, this goes all the way back to when we discovered language, before we could write and had any form of writing materials we told stories. It's part of our culture. I don't know if Jiles would agree with me but he's also a very good journalist and the interview he did with the father of Ryan Waller was sensitive, empathic, truthful and respectful. Qualities many journalists are missing today. These videos take an enormous amount of work, so I just want to say thank you Jiles, you're amazing

Love your work Jiles, thank you for your dedication, honoring the victims, their families and friends, and for your outrage and disgust. Be well.
There shouldn't be a limitation on anything, most especially crimes like these. It should be a law that no matter how long it takes, they should have to face the facts of what they did. R.I.P, now you can fly with the angels.
I love it when I'm up late doing dishes and chores that I'm treated to new videos! It makes the fact that I'm still awake so much better!
I'd not heard of this case before. Forensic DNA is fascinating. Thank you. What a monster - feigning hope so things would be easier for him.
If he truly felt remorseful after raping and killing Helene, then he would have handed himself in to the authorities then, what an despicable man. Sad that Helene's parents and brother weren't there in court to see justice has finally been served but her sister was able to. RIP Helene🙏
Having just lost my Grand Niece by homicide who was only 16, we are in the for journey of who did it. I am so happy they got this guy! You won't get away!!! Justice for Jakarah!!

I think this will be my favourite season yet, because these victims and their families get some type of closure. Thank you for telling their stories!❤
This season's topic is one that I feel great sadness over. The only thing worse for the loved ones of a long overdue justice, at least in my mind, is no justice at all. I can't imagine the trauma experienced by Helene's family over the years, especially those who passed before seeing their loved one's killer locked up. Great reporting, my good man... Puccini (UK)
This case gave me so many emotions and absolute hope that these old, sometimes forgotten victims have justice in their cases as well. Thank you for telling us this story. 🧡🖤
As an older sister, this one was especially hard. My younger sister is almost like my child, I can’t imagine what Janet went through

The fact that there’s a statute of limitations on rape, when it resulted in death, is ridiculous. That should only apply when the victim is an adult and able to voice the absence of their consent.

Once upon a time the penalty for rape was death.
It's a small detail, but it's really nice to hear the full term and not sugar coating sexual assault. SA, [silent] assault, and any other term takes away the clarity as to what happened. In my opinion, sugar coating what happened is disrespectful to the victims' memory as well as because it gives some messed up more of an opportunity to justify to themselves to say "well it doesn't sound all that bad." I could never imagine the fear and the pain of being the victim of that crime, and someone I love dearly has been a victim themselves. In order to properly honor a victim's memory, you need to do the story justice. In order to do the story justice, you can't sugar coat things. In order to avoid sugar coating, you need to use the correct terminology. That's just me though, so I'm honestly pretty glad that patreon seems to be covering the demonetization

It doesn't matter that he will die in prison since he's already had a full life. SO glad he could *finally* come around and see how his actions were wrong only after *HE* had his own kid. Wish we could just end him. At the very least this monster developed an 'nth of conscience so he may very well be tormented by what he's done for the rest of his life. An iota of a condolence. Poor Helene and her family. I wish her sister and any remaining loved ones all the peace they can find.

Thank you for another interesting and informative vid. RIP Helene.
Why is there a statute of limitations on sexual assault? I can’t imagine an offense that needs time for conviction more than that. Victims are often terrified to come forward. Even, and really especially, right after the offense. It’s compounding the trauma. But it’s not allowed. I call bullshot.

@mr.mclibtard5015 this case had literal DNA evidence
I find it interesting that the child recognized her as being a body, where most adults default to 'it must be a mannequin'...
Thank you for taking the time to include Helene’s friends and families words. It made this one hit so much harder for me because I’m the baby sister in my family. My big sister is my entire world and so is my mom. I can’t imagine what they’ve gone through. You’re one of the few true crime channels that I truly feel cares about each and every victim and doesn’t do it for the money. It is rare that these true crime stories give so much detail on the victims, so thank you for that. I’ve been a follower for a few years now and I’m so happy I found you. You’re an amazing human being thank you for sharing this story. Rip Helene ❤
Thank goodness for scientific advancements.... As someone with 1 younger sibling --- I've spent my life protecting my brother/ family. Idk what I'd do if ANYTHING were to happen to him. (There's a family joke that I am his mom -- despite the fact that I'm only 3yrs older than him. And that my mom had him just so I can take care of him.. 😂 I literally took care of him from the moment he was born.) Good content as always ❤
Waaaaahhhhhooooo TEAM INSOMNIA! thanks for the vid, happy Thursday!
The only one good thing about this is that the perpetrator is still alive and he is paying for what he did to Helene and the life sentence of horrible grief and sadness they have endured. He took away generations of her family. So many of these cold cases end with the perpetrator already having passed away and no closure and justice for the victim's families.
I like that you redid the ending again! Great coverage as always
Thanks for the video! Now I have something to listen to while in the shower. It’s a daily thing. (Been watching for a looong time now. Finally left a comment)
Luckily the cold really preserved her body and the evidence inside her very well! WOW! The sketch and the perp are one of the closest matches I’ve ever seen! Kudos to the witness for detail recall and to the artist for interpreting the description. Really excellent.

It was horrible that this young lady lost her life but if there's one thing that makes me chuckle, it's when these murderers go decades without being caught, thinking they got away with the crime, only to get a knock on the door informing them that they did not.

Thinking the same thing!
Good afternoon all
"Don't get up until you know i'm gone" A hollow promise, from a mixed up dude, confessed to 39 years afterward, at 5000 feet.
The manner in which her body was found in the field was just sickening. You just want to cover her up to warm her. :(
When these monsters relay the last moments of the victims lives I try to imagine, if possible the sheer horror. Judging by the news reporter it looked absolutely freezing, bleak where he took her yet she was naked, had been subjected to a sexual assault & was then told to kneel on the freezing snow, all whilst her arms tied behind her back. It's impossible to imagine this young girl's final moments but thinking she had hope of surviving..evil just pure evil.
Sad story
Holy crap, the "reporter"at 5:02 is perfect for the era? That hair is insane even for the 70s
Sad.
That photofit was really accurate by the eyewitness
His family now knows what kind of a monster he is..that's worst than a life sentence...
that monster looked exactly like the sketch, so creepy..
I hate that this dude seemingly got relief from being caught
