Im concerned about the fact that a clump of hair was found in her hand via death grip, why has the DNA not been compared to the supposed suspect? That doesn't sound right does it? Maybe it doesn't match the suspect so they are keeping it hush hush? If not for that I'd say they suspect the correct person, DNA doesn't lie but people do. Great video bro!

I watched a doco on this and I believe the Garda lost a lot of the evidence. Also unless the hair had roots there would be no DNA.

Right. That and I wonder if they did swabs under her fingernails for DNA. By the sounds of it, she fought like hell. How horrific to be on holiday, just outside your holiday home and some lunatic rando bludgeons you to death. I was fully expecting the results of the med exam to include assault of a sexual nature (thank goodness it didn’t). The fact that it didn’t makes the case more confusing though because random attacks from strangers on women tend include that.

It was her hair. DNA was later found on her boot, it was not Bailey's. Despite the scene being awash with blood and it being a frenzied attack, there is zero physical evidence that he is the murderer, none! If he did it then he is a criminal genius. The police would have you believe that he drunkenly staggered a couple of miles there at 3am on a freezing cold December night, looking for sex. Knocked on her door, not knowing if she was actually alone or not, murdered her without sexually assaulting her, made no sound to wake the neighbours, then drunkenly staggered home without leaving any evidence whatsoever at the scene or at his home. That is what the police want you to believe as they have to have a motive but Bailey did not know her so all they could think of was he went for sex, but there was not even evidence of that. Whoever went there wasn't doing it for sex. The organised crime gang had motive because of Sophie having met the two French guys hiding out locally from them, of course you won't get to hear about that in this video as it only goes on about Bailey and not the other suspects!

For those who do not know; Ian Bailey died several months ago. He has been accused of the murder of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, yet there is no evidence that he murdered anybody

Great video. I've lived in Ireland since '97, and this is the most I've heard about this case. Assuming you will cover more Irish cases, "Gardai" is pronounced "Gar-dee"

@@traci222his trial was in France and found guilty but wasn’t able to get extradition, he did not get a trial in Ireland so he remains free, so very sad I can’t imagine Sophie’s son having to face him!

If you’re convicted of murder in another country you definitely should be sent to said country to serve your sentence. You'd be hard-pressed to find another creator who has consistency, compassion and content better than Jiles. All channels are so well put together, from theme music and intro to the witty advertising of them. The lengths you go to, to provide us with this level of detail, sarcasm, empathy and to upload such quality, so often.. we are not worthy! So grateful to you and the hard work. The Irish police are known as The Gardai here. Garda (singular) is pronounced Gar-daa and the plural (Gardai) is pronounced Gar-dee

I saw the documentary of her case on Netflix and wondered why no crime channels had covered it yet! It’s such a sad case.

You do believe in innocent until proven guilty? I assume that you would want to be presumed innocent if you were accused of murder? The Irish prosecutors refused to charge him TWICE, maybe you should listen to what the prosecution themselves said about the police investigation?

What's pathetic is the lazy way in which this case was investigated. Indeed this article is very lazy also. Ian has to be guilty as his a monster, despite no evidence been found to link him to the case. His clearly a narcissus, a wife beater and needs to be the centre of attention, but that does not make him a murderer. Consider this, who was in the car when Sophie got petrol on her way from airport? She may have flown from France on her own, but she was seen with someone in the car at the petrol station. The lady who claims to have seen brady out late at night, later confessed to having lied under instruction from the gardai.What was she doing near Sophie house that night? How did her husband know the condition of her face? He later claimed there was no communication with police. 12 months after Sophie death his girlfriend gives birth to a child. When gardai ask to question people in France, they are not allowed.

The DNA didn't match. Bailey was convicted in absentia in France of her murder, with NO EVIDENCE. That's Napoleonic Law for you.

the hair was her own, no Dna under her fingernails. Bailey is 6ft 4 Sophie was 5 ft 2 ,she fought for her life but her size meant she could do little damage to Ian Bailey

You're correct; not only did he not visit Ireland when she was murdered, he NEVER came to any of the commemoration ceremonies. There was some problem between them, and I've always thought he was behind her murder. Ian Bailey is just a patsy.

Most people never heard how the police were caught trying to get statements from locals including buying phones and giving hashish to them etc. Ian Bailey is an unlikable man clearly not a fan but the fact im Irish and never heard about husband or any other suspects is odd. Baileys ex partner would have spoken by now, no rape no dna just assumed he left a warm house like you said to drunkely stagger a couple kilometres to viciously beat a stranger to death doesn't ring true

Whenever something like this happens governments need to stand up for their people. France should have absolutely bashed Ireland for this and put up lifelong sanctions until he was arrested for the crime. It’s too often that governments let their people die without any justice.

He was convicted in France entirely on hearsay and it would not have stood up in an Irish court of law. You cannot convict someone without evidence and it wasn’t there. Whether you think he’s guilty or innocent, he has a right to a fair trial under the law. That applies to everyone.

Why wasn't the guy judged on the basis of DNA evidence? Seems like a solid proof that would finally put him in jail where he belongs

There was no dna evidence.Dna testing was in its infancy in this country at the time.Sophies body lay covered by tarpaulin for 24 hours in freezing,windy conditions, a lot of potential dna evidence was destroyed

@@theamazingcowlet The prosecution wrote a report in 2001. In it they stated their belief that the so-called "confessions" were sarcasm when people were making the accusations to him. Not the wisest thing to do, but understandable. Imagine a bunch of people accusing you of being a murderer, it is possible that you would respond sarcastically "yea, yeah of course I did it" sort of thing if you see what I mean? The prosecution report savages the police investigation. When even the prosecution say the evidence is not there, people should be listening to them!

We've heard this story so many times but this is the first time it's been mentioned that she had a fistful of hair. Presumably a fistful of dna. Did the guardai lose that too?

The Netflix one was heavily biased to give the impression of Bailey's guilt and left out petty much anything that went against that narrative. It had the support of the local police and the family. Not surprising since one of the producers is none other than Sophie's cousin. Netflix documentaries are there to entertain, not provide facts and evidence. Jim Sheridan's "Murder at the Cottage: The Search for Justice for Sophie" gives an alternative perspective.

Sorry ‘This Is Monsters’ but you got this wrong this time: Ian Bailey was not the perpetrator of this horrible crime - he was set up and framed in order to protect the true perpetrator who was an authority figure in the locality - in fact, meant to be one of the Gardai - so please do more research before damning a man who has already been through hell for a crime he did not commit. As for the French Court’s verdict, it wad all based in withesses who had been coerced or bribed or threatened to make false statements in order to incriminate Ian Bailey - and that French family knew this! They had a lot of political influence in France also which meant that there was political pressure put onto the Irish Government which is why they tried to close the case quickly by targeting Ian. Ian was a journalist who asked too many questions and had to be shut down by the Gardai because he was getting too close to the truth.

The pathologist first arrived 28 hours after her death.

Considering all thats been done before on this, great video!

I did not get the impression that she visited. I got the impression she lived there and I did not know there was anyone that went in there to help her clean that’s very interesting to know that makes a big difference from the Netflix show. I watched about this story.

Ian was an innocent man who was framed for this crime and if you are bothered in seeing the truth then read Gemma O’Doherty’s detailed account of what actually did happen and also that of a senior forensics investigator, Bridget Cappuis formerly of the Met Police who examined all the data and material, concluding that Ian was not guilty ot that crime. The DPP’s Report was excoriating in its criticism of the investigation into Ian Bailey, clearing him completely. Please think twice before adding to the drivel that was heaped upon a persecuted and condemned innocent man for decades.

If he isn't guilty then why does he keep "joking about being guilty" that doesn't bode well, the video makes him look guilty as fck but if she had hair in her hands and skin under her nails why hasn't the DNA been matched to the suspect? That makes the case look more like a set-up, maybe the local police are protecting someone close to them? The locals should protest until the case is proven, no matter who the murderer is, he/she is still running loose in that area and could find another innocent life to take. Be safe my Irish friend.

Sophie's husband NEVER came to Cork, not when she was murdered, not to any of the numerous commemoration events over the years. It appears they had some problems. He could have hired someone to kill her and make it look like a local. If you want proper police procedure, don't look for it in isolated parts of this country; this isn't NYC. At the 18:00 mark that's Connolly's of Leap (rhymes with STEP), where I was the leader of the house band for years. Ian Bailey didn't kill her; I've encountered Ian on several occasions, including when Jules had an exhibition of paintings at the West Cork Arts Centre. No one I know believes he's guilty; you can't accept gossip as fact: at one time Marie claimed to have seen him at the cottage, but that statement was later retracted. She was looking for attention. They have DNA. Clearly Bailey's doesn't match or he'd be arrested by now. The clump of hair in Sophie's hand didn't match Bailey's. He was convicted in absentia in France, of her murder; doesn't say much for the French judicial system. NO EVIDENCE. Bailey never bragged about the murder; more gossip. OCCAM'S RAZOR: someone who knew her murdered Sophie; it's not a SODDI. No local was involved in this murder. There should have been more focus on Daniel, when he was alive. Meanwhile, Ian Bailey is due for some serious heart surgery, but don't expect a confession. And I've had lots of scratches on my arms from being out in the hills, even scratches through my jeans on my legs. NOT EVIDENCE. Reminds me of all the bullshit surrounding the Madeleine McCann death. The clump of hair in Sophie's hand didn't match Bailey, the DNA under her nails didn't match Bailey. Her husband didn't fly to Cork when he heard of her murder; he never even came to the commemorations that have been held. Look in his direction. Just be careful you don't end up in court in France.

Ian Bailey is in hospital awaiting a triple-bypass operation; I believe that this case is killing him. The highest court in Ireland examined the evidence for extradition and concluded THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE. All the gossip-mongers and attention-seekers threw in against Bailey; many stories were circulated, all were discredited, including Marie's lies. The case against the papers was solid, but they brought in some of these unreliable witnesses to damage his reputation, and amazingly he lost. Calling Bailey a "monster" is unwise, seeing that he's effectively cleared of the crime by our top court. No murder charge. The hair in Sophie's hand is not his, the DNA information obtained is not his, and there was no evidence that he was anywhere near the scene of the crime. Daniel Toscan du Plantier had more reason to want Sophie dead than some complete stranger, a SODDI case. A lot of what Bailey said was under the influence of drink, with sarcasm taken for fact. I don't know one person here in West Cork who believes Bailey is guilty; if people thought him guilty, he would have likely been burned out of here years ago. The media wanted a scapegoat; they chose Ian Bailey, called a MONSTER despite the lack of evidence,.

Can't believe he tried to sue newspapers that he used to work for. Got a taste of his own medicine 😂

Incompetent policing from beginning to end. Who loses a 6 foot gate with blood on it? What happened to the hair/dna in her hand? Not saying IB is innocent or guilty but the police are responsible for inept governance of this case and with the 'lost' evidence so too went the odds on ever truly solving the case.

If I’m not mistaken. This story has a weird twist. While I do this all the time. I have to say. This lady was so beautiful. She didn’t deserve to die at all. To mutilate her that way makes me wonder if it wasn’t personal.
