Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey guys, it’s Randy! In today’s video we see all of the recent updates over the weekend and due to some pretty high winds causing anxiety of getting the drone back, I didn’t get to linger as long as I would have preferred, thus making today’s video a little shorter than usual. Hopefully the winds calm down the rest of the week and we can get some nice detailed looks at the time. It’s looking like the vast majority of the drainage system is completed so let’s jump into today’s footage.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The North End shows what looks like the start of closing up this open section of the building since we can see a large crane and a truck with the first wall panel to be installed now in the area.
- The GigaPress area shows the finished concrete that was poured in the curved forms we last saw and they also formed and poured the area between here and the actual building, which we can see the pickup trucks now parked on. Also, on the right of the image, we see pedestrian crosswalks and aisle markings. We can now see these markings in various areas on every side of the building. The east side of this building shows another large section that was just poured that fills the area between the outer angled section and the building. We can also see that the rest of the loading bay concrete was also poured.
- The BIW east side shows that all of the large area we saw being formed and poured last week has been completed.
- The East Detention Pond looks to be completed as all work to bury the “elbow” connections and to fill the old section of the original pond have been finished and we can actually see vehicles driving on top of both of these areas to move around the site. Additional hydro mulch has also been applied to the western bank and the last remaining area of the runoff channel to the east of the main pond.
- Due to high winds, I didn’t go back up to check to see if they are in fact finished with the drainage pipes in the worker lot or if they are going to continue to extend it. From here, it looks like they are burying everything, but we do have several additional pipe sections, so hopefully we can find out for sure when I’m back out and the winds have calmed a bit.
- The south end shows the southern gap roof steel decking application has reached the edge of the structure and the application of the roof membrane layers is extremely close to this edge as well.
- The south detention pond also looks to be mostly completed, with the exception of hydro mulch being applied to the banks, as we can see work in progress to finish final grading and burying of all of the concrete work on the wall, splitter box, and drainage pipes we saw last week taking place.
- The GA building shows that window installation has finally resumed as we can see fast progress installing this bottom row. Last Thursday, this row was at the same spot where we see the top row stopped near the four loading bay openings.
- We wrap up with the west side of the factory showing parking spaces marked in the newly paved areas, pedestrian crosswalks marked, and hydro mulch applied to about half of the berm.

South pond area -- @ 11:21 The new gravel road leading down to the pond is permanent. As shown on the site drawings, it is a maintenance road.

Randy the drain pipes in the parking lot 1:52 will probably extent to the pipe that is under the entrance road to the north to drain the substation area. At 15:56 top center a small pond is right of the entrance road, the destination of the drain pipes. This drain system will probably not require a detainment pond because there is little impermeable covering of the ground. Also the entrance road 1:52 bottom right will continue straight through the area of the temporary trailers to the intersection mentioned in my other comment. It would not surprise me at all to see a road south of pond 1 10:13 left, to extend the loop road to the intersection.

Thank you for your flight today Randy, I know that you don't like the wind. Some information from the civil drawings: At 5:36 the 2 lane concrete road is part of the loop road and there will be a major intersection on the south end of it. To the right (west) will be 4 lanes to parking, to the left (east) the main entrance road of 5 lanes which connects to the existing entrance road. To the south will be the continuation of the loop with 4 lanes that has several turnoffs into the parking lots, one being at the existing ramp shown at 7:34. The loop road will connect to the existing asphalt road south of the building. All other roads in this area are temporary. The Bio-Filtration pond 6:19 AKA east pond, pond 2 is essentially complete and in service, not as described in drawings but retains functionality probably at a lower cost. The Wet Pond 10:12 AKA pond 1 lacks about 3,500 plants and final grading to be complete.

Hi Elton, East pond is essentially complete, with one item remaining. Doesn't there have to be a wall or some structure separating the sedimentation basin from the biofiltration basin (present location of silt fence bisecting pond)? Or is it now just one basin? By the way, what do you think of that micky mouse connection to the outfall channel (no concrete weir)? Regarding the road.... Just want to add... Page 8 of the plans shows that north of the major intersection, the two lane road seen @ 5:36 is southbound only. The two northbound lanes are part of a new road to be constructed a couple hundred feet to the east.

@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn Good day David, The separating wall shown on civil is about 1' high and could be the black fence shown or they might add some stone. The outfall will work OK, just reduces accuracy. Yes the road is south bond only and the other north, trying to keep reply short. Seems that they want a clockwise rotation on the loop road.

You did well to fly and video in those conditions. The groundworks around the southern pond have progressed at a pace over recent days, they've been making the most of the dry conditions. Looking forward to the remaining insulation and membrane over the end of the southern gap.

Sorry about that. I'm a little under the weather and my mic gain is super sensitive and it seems like it picks up the humming of the PC while trying to record. This has been a constant thing to tweak, but I think I can fix it permanently once I find my other mic and filters that have been misplaced during my move. Addressing this is definitely on my radar.

@@TerafactoryTexas Well, keep the mic gain turned down, so that you don't pick up random noise in the room. But turn up the master volume, after the mic/mixing stage. There should be some mixer sliders that control levels, after the mic has been mixed into the audio stream.

I definitely skipped too many physics lessons, but why does the storm water drains into the BOTTOM of the south pond, wouldn't the body of water in the pond is just half full block more water naturally flowing in or even push back? Or are there pumps for the system? Pls. be kind. :)

  • @DavidJohnson-tv2nn

It's all part of energy dissipation of the incoming flow. This is accomplished in four ways. 1) The two 8' diameter pipes that enter the outfall chamber (behind the wall) are offset from the outlets. 2) The flow is spread out over 4 outlets per 8' pipe. 3) Flow into the pond is horizontal along the bottom, rather than vertical, with a massive amount of water dropping into the pond. 4) Riprap is placed at the base of the outlets. Energy dissipation does provide some resistance to the flow, but that is the point.. To slow it down and spread it out to prevent erosion and scour.

Water always flows to seek level, the speed of flow is controlled by the difference in height and any restriction between the higher water to the lower. Flow stops when they are at the same height from the center of the earth.

As much as I like and appreciate what you do, I want to ask one more favor... please when you record your voice-over, turn up the mic gain at least 2 units on a VU scale (or marked points on a dial). This is *not* the same as 'talk louder' -- that part's fine. Just lay down a stronger voice track. The music is fine, it's your voice I want to hear. Thanks.

@@TerafactoryTexas I guess I should have been better at clarity.... it's *me* with poor ears, not anyone or anything else. I suppose I could say I'm getting old now (I won't, even if true) but I *am* using a laptop with less than stellar sound/volume, so there's that. If I turn off any other sound in the vicinity and listen closely it's all good, but I wish I didn't have to do that. Regardless, I offer the request honestly, simply for the voice track to be a bit stronger, relatively. I'll go back to sitting quietly with everything else turned down now.
