Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey everyone, it’s Randy! Today’s footage shows lots of new updates in various areas all around the site and we also see another major milestone achieved in that all of the west-facing wall panels of the factory have been installed. We also take some time to look at the increased activity in the far northeast section of the site. There’s a lot to cover so let’s jump right into it!
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The north end shows some new excavations taking place on each side of the road.
- The GigaPress area shows the large formed area we saw at the north end has already had concrete poured and we can see the resulting slab. We also get a look at the assembly progress of machine #3 as well.
- The east side of the BIW section shows formwork still in progress for additional concrete slabs and we can also now see some of the prep work for the road extending further south towards Stamping. On the roof, we can see the progress of the stairwell structure we saw that work started on yesterday. Still on the roof and closer to the paint shop, we get a closer look at the area that was opened up in the roof directly above the chillers on the floor below.
- The southern gap shows the progress of the work to bury the footings in the center of the pit and creating new ones along the sides.
- The southwest corner near the bridge shows new paths being worked on to properly connect the road on the west side of the factory to the one running beneath the bridge.
- The GA west side again shows the wall panel installation has finally reached the south end and we now have all wall panels installed on this entire face of the building. Along the angled corner, we can see the disassembly of one of the large yellow cranes taking place. Up north, we see the new taller window installation still progressing nicely, but at the center of the image we can see a lot of dock levelers have been delivered. The question is, where will these actually be installed because there are not that many available dock openings currently available to have these installed, so what are we missing here? Leave a comment below if you have an idea.
- The BCP building shows a couple of large pieces that go to the bridge crane. Joe was able to capture images of the entire 18-wheeler driving into the building via the ramp next to these parts earlier this morning.
- Next, we see the new makeshift detention pond north of the worker parking lot just across HGR and then get a look at the far northeast part of the Bobcat Project area to check out what’s been happening in this section of the site.
- We wrap up with a look at the concrete that has been poured atop the south end of the northern gap.

Thanks Randy. 6:21. Casting roof. Final column extension to be installed. On ground nearby. 7:07. East side BIW. Mobile tanker backing up to the temporary water tank. 9:21. South alleyway footings. East side GA. New excavation on the south line of the column pedestals, and another to the left. 10:00. South alleyway north end. Wide variety of bolt patterns on the footings. Top left near the excavator are 8, next footings to the right have 4. Footings down the west and east sides have 4. Column pedestals have 16. The column pedestals must be set up for 2 columns. If it were 1 column (concrete or steel) the central bolts would be inaccessible. 10:20. East side GA. On second thoughts the excavation to the right might be where the drain reconnects to the 8’ black drains. 11:14. Under the transmission lines. The lone precast wall panel that was stored on a trailer there for 5 or 6 months (since the northwest corner of stamping was originally opened up) has finally been removed.

I wonder how much longer it’ll be to complete this… I’m waiting to order my model Y until I know for sure it will come from this factory. I live in Austin, so I just want to go down and pick it up myself and experience the new car process wherever they have it for these models EDIT: I really hope they have a section at the new factory for local buyers to come and pick up new cars. It’d be on another level if they have some amazing “new buyer”parking lot that was really well lit so if you pick it up at night, you can still inspect the car and someone’s always there to go over the car with you that works at the factory.

They have already started pilot production on the Y in Austin, and will probably be ready for first deliveries by during Q4, or at the latest January 2022. If you order a Y now, the delay is so long, that you won't be able to get it till March next year anyway, so it's 100% assured you can get a Texas Y by the time it arrives. The problem is, we don't know which model Y spec is going to be first in Texas, so ask your sales rep before delivery where it comes from.

It is not uncommon toward the end of a big job for miscounted orders to show up. Either the inital order was counted incorrectly at the design shop, or the supplier messed up. Or they have some other destination on site and everyone got it right. Having prepared too many BoM's to count I can tell you that sometimes there is a hard deadline, it's very late and stuff happens.

At 1:11 and 10:13 those footings are rectangular, so I'm assuming that they are not for the square steel columns, but they're for the heavy rectangular concrete columns used in the Gigapress areas. At 13:54 there are those light green wrapped pallets that others were speculating about. Still unopened. At 16:06 there are some pipes laying on the ground in a straight line. Looks like they're going to bury some new gas line. I wonder if it's a replacement for the old line? Thanks, Randy for the great video.

They seem to be replacing the natural gas line either due to corrosion (there was a lot of repair work on the west side for awhile) or possibly upsizing the line. My guess is that the had to create a "clean zone" separate from construction for the new factory workers. They had to have everything right next to the factory. I can't believe they have been sending cranes away when they haven't even started the bobcat construction nor have they started the building on the west side of the highway. Speaking of which, how are they going to produce anything without the cathode facility. Randy, the cooling units at 21:00 are Trane units that have compressors and condensers that operate with R410a gas. The units appeared to be temporary at first but may be permeant. They probably have the capacity to cool the whole plant. Of course they have to expel the heat somewhere and it appears to be thru the roof. The air intakes may be thru the wall as seen at 21:09. The chillers located on the top floor of the battery area cool water by direct contact and evaporation. They probably will be used to cool some process and are not part of HVAC.

Looks like there is enough space to build at least 8 more gigafactories, but why would they, to be honest they made a big mistake using texas to buil, with there biggest issues being water and electricity supplies through the year, even mild weather can disrupt water supplies......and electricity is up to when the suppliers want to price gouge... Then again it seems like Elon is in full support of the republicans and has probably managed to get them in his pocket to allow him to overcome these issues by tapping into emergency supplies and having infrastructure around the site updated while the rest of the state is a complete mess. I believe this is the only thong that will prevent full adoption of tesla in the country and why the government right now supports the big manufacturers over tesla...
