Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey everyone, it’s Randy! Today’s footage shows that we are approaching the final day or so of seeing steel beams and columns being erected on the main building! My guess is that they’ll finish sometime on Friday and also have the topping out ceremony then to close the week, so hopefully Joe or Jeff will be able to capture that for us since I don’t go out on Fridays. Elsewhere, we continue to see the next phase of construction or processes for various things around the building and especially at the south detention pond.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The north end shows forms in place around partial electrical work done as these could most likely be more chargers being constructed. The berm area wrapping around this end of the site looks to be getting final grading and new soil, so we’ll most likely see final sod or whatever the final solution for covering these sections installed soon.
- The GigaPress area shows the progress of the new excavation we saw yesterday. We also see the final windows for the east-facing side and angled corner transition being dropped off so the crane and workers in position can begin installing them.
- It looks like the large gas line has been installed and burial procedures are underway to cover it all up.
- The BIW area shows the new section of concrete we saw being poured yesterday was completed and expansion joints have been cut already. We can see the small section immediately in front of the loading bays has been poured as well and the rest of that section and the one next to it are almost finished having rebar placed.
- The East detention pond looks mostly finished with the spreading and grading of soil and for sure should be done most likely after I leave the site.
- The southern gap north end shows a quick look at the progress of the roofing underway. The south end shows that the last section of columns are mostly installed and then they need to place the final beams and trusses to finish out the structure.
- The south detention pond is now having a layer of soil spread out over the black geomembrane liner. The wall is having most of the form panels removed while the last remaining section of forms is actively having concrete poured. Lastly in this area, the drainage vault box shows the increased density of the inner structure being built and on the outside, it looks like the process to bury the drainage pipes with soil has begun.
- We wrap up with a quick look over the far east side and then back towards the factory and we can see that work has resumed on the drainage pipe section near the east parking lot.

Its been an amazing 1 1/2 years watching this being built. I remember when they were removing trees and scraping off the tops of the hills while filling in the swamps. Can’t believe it’s almost done. There is much more coming. Cant wait until we start seeing production cars roll out

Yes the Bio-Filtration Pond - Pond 2, 7:02 is looking good. At this time they have the constant 6" drain from the buried grid connected and the metered pipes installed but the overflow is not complete. The overflow will be across the covered area on the east end, but from there could be an open channel with rip-rap or pipes under the road or a concrete weir under the road as shown on the plans. These guys are very good with their dirt work, much better than I have achieved with my dozer.

7:05 Not sure if you spotted this while you were away Randy, those concrete walls are actually panels removed from the main building due to the window redesign. The holes for water were cut using a concrete hole saw after the panels were set in a concrete foundation, you can see the waste cores at the east end of the wall.

Good day Randy, Thanks for the video. At 8:26 bottom center you can see the end of the ramp that was poured some time ago. To the left and adjacent to the ramp is the location of the final loop road that will go north - south here. Most of the other roads will be eliminated according to the civil plans. That will leave the areas between the ramps to parking for landscaping. This is also the area that is the Right of Way for the utilities. about 10 seconds.

That is all good but they left zero room for landscaping on the west side. There will be parking/loading docks - road - more parking. Not a single blade of grass, or a single plant in a 200' wide strip. Also wish they would have at least a little landscaping near the building on the east side.

@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn David I am referring to the picture at 16:26 and civil pages 31 and 32. Along the building the concrete allows trucks to turn to the docks. Going to the west the four lane road is next, then parking for two rows of cars and in some areas one row. The row of drains is in these parking lots. Then the berm next to the toll way which will be covered with grass and any other landscaping they desire. They could also have grass and plantings as show on the plans along the parking areas. The primary function of this area is material handling and parking.

@@eltonray2934 Pages 38, 39, and 40 show blocked out areas that could be used for landscaping. My complaint is that they chose to pave over all of them! Instead, there is pavement with white diagonal lines painted across it. As for landscaping along the freeway berm, that's all fine. But still leaves 200' (estimate) of solid pavement between the berm and the building. Wouldn't it look so much better if there was a 4' landscaped strip of land between the road and parking areas? Instead of having one solid mass of pavement. This is a billion dollar project. They can do better. That is just my opinion. Just like earlier, when I strongly spoke out in favor of windows instead of a concrete dungeon.

@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn What really got me last week was watching a video of Giga Berlin where it showed roof work. There are probably a hundred massive skylights (10' wide or so with lengths that could be 20, 30, 40 or more feet long) and also hundreds of smaller skylights all over the roof of the building. There's also a lot of other tech on top of that building that's missing from Texas. Berlin-Brandenburg looks futuristic.

I hadn’t noticed the fountain in the north evaporation pond before. How long has that been there? Looks like there is a lot of de-mobilization starting for contractors and suppliers.

Patrick, I saw the object in the pond but did not realize that it was a fountain. 18:49 You are correct, could be a floating agitator. In the picture I see a device near the bank up and to the right of the fountain and a line across the parking lot which could be the power source. Today is the first time I have seen it and I usually check this pond closely.

@ 13:55 (Splitter box) The plan on pages 71 and 72 calls for a perimeter drain around the splitter box. Looks like they decided to skip it. With the weir formed up, it would be a bad time for a major rain event.

  • @eltonray2934

David, Since the water would enter the box and exit to the temporary pond it would not be too bad. At least they are covering the geomembrane in the Wet Pond and a water level would not displace it.

Randy, how high does your drone go? Can you fly 2 or 3 times higher and show a panorama of the entire site? I’d like to see it that way because it’s so big it’s easy to forget how big the complete project is. Great vid. Thanks!

@@patrickkenny2077 Patrick, I agree that a portable would work, according to how often required. The pond bottom is flat. The forebay section where the sediment will have to be removed is next to the wall they are working on.

@@patrickkenny2077 I may be wrong on this, but I believe the bottom of the concrete structure behind the retaining wall will be at the same elevation as the bottom of the pond. Thus, there won't be a need for a pump inlet pipe. Just place the pump on the bottom of the splitter box to pond outfall structure.
