Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Welcome back everyone, it’s Randy! Today’s video shows an insane amount of progress with the paving taking place around the factory. We previously saw that this was in fact a point of emphasis, but seeing how much has been done in 24hrs is mind blowing and gives even more reason to be optimistic with some timelines for things that remain until the end of the year! We also see some major updates to the remaining work on the drainage system at both detention ponds as well. Enjoy the weekend and we’ll see what the site looks like on Monday afternoon!
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The North End shows new road paving that has happened on this end in addition to lane markings and we can see that the markings extend around the BCP building and onto the west side, which we’ll see more of later.
- The GigaPress area shows the windows along the north facing side are now installed and they have one remaining at the transition point on the corner where the angle and north side meet. We can also see new forms in place to transition from the angled section of the ground to the north end as well. Jumping over to the east side of this section, we can see concrete poured in the forms we saw yesterday for the outer curved transition area between the east and northeast angled sides. We can also see lots of rebar nearby that will be placed next so that they can fill in the areas directly next to the building. Here we see the finished section that was poured yesterday and they also poured the drainage area in front of the loading bays.
- The BIW east side shows the majority of the large formed area has been poured and a view from the other end shows the last of the rebar being placed before they will start pouring this remaining section.
- The East Detention Pond shows most of the area being filled from the old dimensions of the original pond is nearly completed and in the area of the drainage pipes, the “elbow” pieces have been installed to connect the pipes and they are in the process of burying the finished work.
- The south end shows the beautiful progress across the entire spectrum, most notably, the new road that has been paved spanning the entire width of this end that really ties everything together! The southern gap roof steel decking application is nearing the south edge and should be completed on Friday. The wall panels being installed have also completed another full column of panels as well and yesterday it looked like workers were in the disassembly process of the upper-level access platform, but that clearly wasn’t the case since we can still see it so maybe they were adjusting some of the pieces at the top.
- The south detention pond's south wall overflow system now shows progress of backfilling and compacting the soil around the top of the box. Yesterday we could see some elevated banks created in the middle of the large pond area and workers were actually in the process of installing a drainage pipe in yesterday’s footage and here it is after the installation. These banks work in combination with this pipe to control water flow and access to the southernmost part of the pond. The work on the drainage channel pipes continues as we can see them installing the large sections we started to see moved to the area yesterday.
- Lastly, the west side of the factory shows a lot of great updates. We see that hydro mulch is already starting on the banks as the clearing work is taking place on top of the berm area. Next, we can see that cars are already parking on the newly paved parking lot areas adjacent to the berm and that they have paved a large amount of the area over the past 2 days! We can also see the newly paved 2-lane road that has also immediately had road markings applied. I would say that we could see all paving work on this side completed by the end of next week, if they keep at this pace.

    Good Day Randy, The main thing that I see from the view at 12:07 is that the east side of the building is near completion because of all of the concrete. The areas to the south and west of the building have most of the areas covered with only asphalt which indicates to me that other changes will be made. The final design will probably have concrete covering all of the areas. This also implies that the areas inside of the building on the east are near or completed for the most part. We know that the west side of the building is only about 20% complete inside. The southern extension is in the future, could be years away, but they installed asphalt for this road which can be easily removed and recycled.

    I wonder if there is a site plan of the storm water system for the site that’s available for viewing. It would be interesting to see, it looks like Tesla is setting a new standard for how to manage and remove sediment from storm water for a large site. It would be nice to see more companies willing to use bio filtration to improve water quality in our rivers and lakes.

    Michael Pepe, as Robbie Showers pointed out, the geofoam blocks are to reduce pressure on the wall. Geofoam is usually used in areas with poor soil conditions. The maximum water level in the pond is 13 feet. As determined by the weir in the splitter box. Excess water goes to the river outlet pipes and out the river outfall structure.

What I haven't figured out is how they are getting away with not building one of those huge waterfall evaporative chiller towers, like Shanghai, to cool that beast. I wonder if that big complex of water vaults they put in one of the alleys has something to do with the cooling system, like a heat sink. It's HVAC tech I am unaware of anyway.

    @@rockon7848 , we've been asking the same question for several months. It looks like that instead of building a large central facility they are building a bunch of smaller wet package systems. For instance the 8 systems in the battery area. That's a lot of cooling. There are still 4 good size water cooling towers in storage across the road near the wall panels. Don't know if the plan changed or they will be installed in the future. Perhaps in the area currently used by contractor trailers between the current building and the cathode plant. That's the area that would make sense.

The roads on the west side and the road that connects to Hwy 973 could be used for the road test, all still on Tesla land. Storage of new products could be many places during the ramp up of production. Permeant test track and storage can be developed in about two weeks by the crews on site. Really not a problem. The land next to the river is within the 100 year flood plain and would make a good area for test track and storage. There are other lots in this area that are empty now.

  • @eltonray2934

    @eltonray2934

    2 жыл бұрын

    David, I have several explanations. This is for the water for the entire building and is rather long. The splitter box has two functions, water collection and overflow for pond 1. The lower 8’ pipe on the NW side collects water from west parking areas south of the Cyber wall. The other 8’ pipe on this side collects water from the west roof and parking. The 6’ pipe on the SE side collects water from the building center “H” area overflow. Some is diverted into the “H” for process water if required. The vaults will hold about .5 acre feet of water. Treated wastewater is added to this flow. The 8’ pipe on this side collects water from the bottom half of the east side, roof and south of the building. All of these flows leave the box through two 8’ pipes on the SE side to pond 1. Pond 1, the Wet Pond, has two areas, Forebay, which collects sediment and the Main Pool, together both act as a retention basin. At the start of a rain the retention area will be between 0’ and 6’ depth which is 14 acre feet of water. The water flow will enter the forebay and flow across a berm into the main pool. Above 6’ water will start draining through three 1’ pipes to the river and the pond is in detention phase with 27 acre/feet additional capacity. As water continues flow into the pond if it reaches 13’ pond level it will start overflowing the wall “weir” in the splitter box to the river through two 8’ and one 6’ pipes on the SW side of the box. The three 1’ pipes are still flowing and at rains end will drop the level to 6’ ready for the next rain event. The pond system is lined with a non-permeable membrane. The pond will empty through evaporation and use by the 3,590 plants to be planted in it. Treated wastewater will help water the plants during dry times. Pond 2, a Bio-Filtration pond has two areas, a sedimentation basin and a bio-filtration basin. The filtration basin has a network of 6” PVC pipes that collect filtered water which flows to the outlet channel through a 6” PVC pipe. Both basins retain about 4.3 acre/feet of water when at 6’ level. This level will slowly drop because of the filtration drain. Water enters the pond from an 8’ pipe that drains from the Cyber wall across the north end and half way down the east side of the building. The second 8’ pipe drains the north parking lot and along the utility corridor. During rain the water will flow down the distribution channel and across the sedimentation basin to the bio-filtration basin. When the level reaches 6’ overflow will start through the two 2’ pipes to the channel and the pond will be in detention mode with an additional 5 acre feet of detention capacity. If the level reaches 10’ the pond will overflow to the channel to an existing pond near the river. At rains end the two 2’ overflows will drop the level to 6’ ready for the next rain. The 6” drain will flow until the pond is empty.
