Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey guys, it’s Randy! Today’s video shows lots of updates with the south detention pond that continue to show the engineering efforts going into the overall drainage system around the factory. Also of note is all of the work being done to pave roads and parking areas on both the east and west sides of the main building. If they are planning to start some level of production soon, then it makes sense to try and get the rest of the grounds immediately outside of the building walls paved and finished space can be available to be used for other things besides storing boxes and containers full of equipment and materials.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The GigaPress area shows rapid progress to the area being prepped for concrete that will join the angled slab and the concrete running along the north side of this section. The east side of this section shows the large slab we saw yesterday being poured has been completed and we are seeing the next set of forms having concrete poured, which they have just a small corner remaining.
- The BIW east side shows an extremely large area being formed and prepped for concrete, as well as light posts being installed throughout the area.
- The east detention pond has now had the hydro mulch applied to the western bank that was missing yesterday and we can now see the “elbow” pipe pieces in the area that will be used to connect the pipes.
- The Stamping area shows another piece of heavy equipment beneath the cranes and being readied to move into the building.
- The south end shows the progress covering the southern gap roof and the progress installing the wall panels, which are also being installed rapidly.
- The south detention pond's topsoil layer looks mostly completed, but it also looks like they may be adding one more layer of the lighter colored soil or sand on top of this darker one. The south wall overflow system shows the box forms removed exposing the concrete structure. The wall area continues to have work done to enclose the pipe inlet box area and the channel is now mostly lined with the geotextile fabric and we can see that some of the light colored soil or sand mix is already being placed within the space and also around the pipes on the left side of the image. The drainage splitter box shows rebar being placed in the familiar grid pattern so that they can soon pour concrete for the roof of the box.
- Lastly, the west side of the factory shows updates to the paving for the additional lots taking place and we can see how they had just started the process of starting on the next segment to the north as the tar truck was actively applying tar to the ground.

The only thing better than a Randy video, a Randy video and a Joe video on the same day. We won't get any Joe videos this week, so I'll only be half as happy watching the progress. Both of you guys are tied for #1 in my book, everyone else a very distant 2nd.

I agree! Why no Joe videos this week? Randy and Joe's provide most of the coverage, but.... Brad Sloan covers some things the others don't cover, like the river outfall structure. Jeff's videos are the best for searching through past videos. Because he flies the same preprogrammed path every day. So everyone contributes to the big picture.

Thanks for the video Randy, At 12:06 precast man holes installed in the four corners of the splitter box. Will be pouring the roof soon and then all of the form material will have to removed through these holes. At 13:05 the power company has an easement for the power poles they had to go around. This power goes down the right pole and underground to the tollway supply at line high voltage and would be costly to move if Tx Dot would allow it to be moved. Information from civil plans.

Didn’t they install conduits for three circuits that wrap the area? It would be a pretty easy cut-over once the underground structures are complete. (Looks like circuit tie-in is south of the south road, ~100m west of the tollway.)

Would it be that hard to remove one pole and reroute the wires? Assuming they got permission. Also, as Patrick mentioned, they did run three conduits under the road earlier. Those can serve to carry the three phases underground.

@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn David the civil plans show an easement with a reference number. The power comes from a supplier and is routed to the west under the tollway for their supply. The pole does not have a transformer so the power is at primary level ~ 14KV and requires special shielded wiring. This circuit has nothing to do with Tesla but they have an easement to have their poles there, Tesla would not want to supply power to the tollway.

South pond area -- @ 10:43 I wonder if they will use a precast cover for the top of the pond outfall/overflow structure? @ 11:21 Riprap placed at the base of retaining wall water outlets. @ 11:27 Concrete access rings or forms in place on top of splitter box to pond outfall chamber. @ 11:34 A repeat of what I already said, but wish they wouldn't connect the stormwater pipes to the pond until work is 100% complete! Big mistake! They are going to look like fools if a big storm comes by! They should have waited until ALL work on the pond was completed. They already silted up the biofiltration basin in the east pond to some extent by doing the same thing.

@@eltonray2934 I’m not sure which way it will go; it seems like the production side of the factory is the east side and the employee side is primarily west and north side, but there is a lot of work that needs to happen still on the east side for construction personnel to be shifted out (at least clear east of the turnstiles or new drain pipe). That would suggest its eventual home is on the east side somewhere, but it isn’t ready yet.

@@patrickkenny2077 Patrick, the area to the east is mostly in the 100 year flood plain and will not be built on without much fill dirt. The perfect place for a test track or eco paradise. Employees will have stations that they work at all over the plant and possibly have meals and breaks on the west side.
