Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hey guys, it’s Randy! I’ve finished moving, coaching my kids football season, and my shoulder is feeling pretty good after having the procedure! There’s still a bit of unpacking to do here and there in regards to our move, but for the most part I have everything hooked up to make videos. Also, I posted previously that I would be out to film on Monday and I did actually go to the site, but for some reason the DJI App kept crashing and wouldn’t work and after trying to fix it for about an hour, I ran out of daylight and had to troubleshoot the issue back at home. Everything is updated and good to go now, so my apologies for the technical difficulties.
As for today’s footage, there’s a huge amount of progress made pretty much in every direction you look while at the site. I was away for about 3 weeks and seeing some of the updates for the first time was flat out amazing! I definitely wanted to linger more in some of the newer areas being constructed but battery power and daylight were both quickly fading. I’ll get back up-to-speed on everything quickly and hopefully we’ll be able to see some Model Y’s coming out of the factory in about a month!
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The north end shows a nearly finished parking lot that has been paved, had spaces marked, and looks to just need the electrical work in progress completed. Around the entire thing we’ll eventually see landscaping installed between it and the main roadways into the factory.
- The overhaul to HGR and all of the intersections is mostly complete as well. Final lane markings, curbs, permanent traffic signals, and possibly some additional guard rails on the NB/SB service roads to SH130 look to be all that remain.
- The GigaPress area shows work in progress to seal all of the installed wall panels and on the east side of the building, we see work has started on the construction of the ground for the loading dock where we previously saw the 3 bay openings.
- The long gas pipe we saw laid out on the east side of the factory is in the process of being installed as well.
- The BIW area shows the latest sections of ground being prepped for concrete, as we can see a large section that looks ready for pouring and work being done to install the drainage channel in front of the bays in the next section over.
- The East detention pond has undergone a huge transformation and we can see work in progress to create channels and an intricate water diversion system taking shape. Here we can see where pipes for the overflow system at the bottom of the image lead to a channel that will take the water to what remains of the large pond on the east side of the factory. Here are a few more images that provide a little more detail.
- The southern gap has made amazing progress and the steel beam erecting is almost completed! The north end shows the progress of applying the steel decking as they work south. The south end shows the steel that will be covered next and the last remaining trusses and beams to be installed to round out the last of the open gaps remaining in the overall shape of the building footprint.
- The south detention pond has also been transformed and there are major drainage solutions in place unfolding here as well! The pond has been framed with concrete and is currently having a membrane applied in the main section and to the north of this, a large wall is being constructed. Northwest of the wall, we see a huge drainage vault or box system connecting all of the massive underground drainage pipes and my guess is that this will serve as the overflow system to allow excess water to exit the 3 pipes at the bottom of the image and be carried to the river where we previously saw these pipes being laid near the bridge.
- The west side of the factory shows a huge cutout in the berm running the length of the factory, which will most likely become additional parking on this side.
- We wrap up with a look over the far east side of the site just so we can keep an eye on what’s happening with deliveries and materials as we get closer to production starting.

I’m happy you are back, My personal belief is you do the best drone videos of the Tesla Gigafactory, your overview in the beginning is very helpful and I quite enjoy your music. I like it very much that you don’t show sections like the concrete Slab storage area.

That's definitely the plan! Need to make sure this thing heals up correctly while I'm still relatively young as I know plenty of people who regret not doing all of their rehab and proper ramp up to normal activity when they had the chance. Thanks again and it's good to be back!

Glad to have your day end roundup again Randy, your video is very clear, at 9:47 I can see that they are cutting the 36 prescribed holes as shown on the drawings. They are also following the instructions for the flow entry area with the winged concrete structure. The two 2' overflows are designed to give this pond a detention function with the final overflow flowing across the beds on the left of the pond to the outfall channel. Glad to have you back!

Add my welcome back to the chorus! Your videos are by far the best. When you get a chance, could you check out the charging area on west side... the large number of Model Ys there appear to be mostly clean (new looking) vehicles that might be initial production. If you can get close enough, might be able to see if they have license plates or new vehicle stickers on windows. Thousands of new vehicles could be stored out of sight in the Giga factory.

The other thing they should do right away is line the channel with more riprap, or at least lay down a grass mat. Like TxDOT did by the freeway ramps. Or the next time it rains, the perfect sides of the channel will look like crap due to erosion.

David, at 16:33 the structure on the north side of the wall could be an area where the feed pipes that need to be above the bottom of the three 1' drains enter. This would cause the fall from the pipes to be on the concrete floor with a even flow into the forebay. Maybe also put the pump here. Just a guess.
