Tesla Terafactory Texas Update

Hello and welcome back everyone, it’s Randy! In today’s footage, we see significant progress with the work being done on the roof sections all along the north end. We also continue to see major progress with the GigaPress area, the east side of the factory, and all areas of the southern gap.
Here are today’s key takeaways:
- The north end shows that both the northern gap and the gap between the GigaPress and Paint Shop have had all of the steel decking applied to the roof above these sections. Both sections still need to have work done on the sloped transitions from the Paint Shop and then we could see concrete or insulation panels being applied.
- The GigaPress area shows that concrete has been poured for the new GigaPress machines and surrounding area foundation. We can also see that expansion joints have also already been cut into the concrete as well.
- The east side of the BIW section shows the first completed concrete slab for parking lots and miscellaneous ground areas on this side. We can also see the next few sections to be poured have already been formed and are having rebar placed in them so we should see these poured in the coming days as well. The area where we last saw the cistern ring section pieces near the loading bays on this side now shows them stacked and installed within the trench box we’ve been seeing on this side for a while now. On the south end of this section, we see that new trenches have been dug and more conduit being laid, similar to what we saw done on the west side prior to having the lots paved over there.
- The south end of the southern gap shows the drilled shaft at the south end of the pit has picked up and is still in progress and we now see the footings reaching further into the south portion of the area. The opposite end shows the footings and columns have had forms removed and we can see work in progress installing the large blue panels on the GA wall. We can also see that work is being done to form the footings along the walls and that fill soil is being brought in to bury these new footings. Lastly in this section, we can see the latest work on the drainage pipes south of the southern gap as the section spanning the gap is now being covered and is about to intersect with the one put in place long ago that runs around the end of the stamping area and east side of the building.
- The GA west side again shows the wall panel installation is right at the south end but it has taken longer to finish this section out than I originally estimated. Hopefully it’s completed this weekend or Monday at the latest. The status of the new taller windows being installed up north shows they have all of the ones in the first shipment installed and we now see a new shipment has arrived and is ready to be installed next.
- We wrap up with a look at the BCP building northwest corner where we can see a large new excavation in progress directly next to the building, but it’s a little too early to tell what’s actually happening here so we’ll keep an eye on it.

Just returned home to Dallas from a weekend drive trip to San Antonio. Driving home we went by the site. Wow! It looks so big on my 32" monitor but in person it is unbelievable. Such a great and exciting time it was to drive by the magnificient construction site and see it in person. Thanks to both Randy and Joe for their wonderful work. As a Tesla owner and stock holder I am so excited to see this site grown into its amazing potential.

Thanks Randy. 4:16. North alleyway. Space frame. The completion of the roof sheeting draws my eye to the top right connection of the space frame. The connection is a column thickness further north than the connection on the left side. Landing on the beam, not a bracket on the column. 6:30. Casting, underside of roof. Deep into casting it looks as if some HVAC gear has been hung from the roof underneath the roof curbs/kerbs/upstands. 11:17. East side GA footings. Nice shot showing the progression of busting out the concrete around the sheathed rebar that was buried in the GA footings (on the left) to the construction of a rebar cage for a column pedestal at the north end (on the right). Still the question of the purpose of the bored reinforced concrete piles down the same line as the removed black drain pipes. 11:25. West side BIW footings. Geopiers visible in the vertical face of the excavation. 12:12. South end. Black pipe being connected to the fire loop. Green pipe I think just being used as warning bollards. A number of bored piles visible across this opening. 15:38. West side GA. There’ll be triple height glazing on the ground floor as well presumably. 15:53. West side GA. Triple height glazed units. Cut and paste from Jeff’s Day 422. How big. Column spacing is 550” 45’10” 13.97m. 5 glazed units per column spacing gives a width of 9’2” 2.79m per unit. Jeff’s Day 419 at 11:32. Glazed unit is being hoisted and is more or less perpendicular to the camera. Width to height ratio measured on screen is 3.42. Which gives a height of 31’3’ 375” 9.54m. How heavy (shrugs shoulders). The vacuum lifting rig is a VSG Konter supplied or manufactured by Heavydrive. The counterweights from what I can tell are all 1000kg. There’s 4 on the rig here and they get driven well back past the hook of the crane. The unit appears to be the VSG 8000 as shown on the website. Based entirely on the number of suction cups and the pair of boxes at the end of the counter beam. 16:41. West side battery. Stacks of what appears to be grey painted steel door frames. 17:35. Battery roof. Roof curbs/kerbs/upstands been temporarily given a membrane cover.

4:16 I always wonder how much of this is CAD vs improvised on the spot. 15:53 Basically 3 story high. It's a wonder (relatively) thin glass can hold it's weight and wind spikes.

@@musaran2 4:16. Certainly some quick design goes on. The space frame components would be a unique length for that corner. 15:53. I don't know much about glass. I guess it might be triple glazed, and possibly laminated. Certainly got a fancy reflective finish as well. I was hoping some mathematician would pick up on the counterweights and be able to estimate the weight from that. Elsewhere I questioned the rationale behind using such large panels. Might put that on the list of questions for the site manager (should any of the quad squad land an interview and ask for question suggestions).

@@DessieDoolan Jeff's 419, not 219: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nX-pvI9_hZO-fZc.html Glass is basically quartz, but amorphic & crackless. It is the hardest common rock: surprisingly tough, but brittle. I ruler-on-screen the rig's counterweight lever at ~1.3, but accounting for the weight of the suction cup structure it should even out towards ~1. So 4~5T panels. Standard 4mm glass is ~10kg per m². 4~5T ÷ ~27m² = 148~185kg per m². For equal 3× glazing that means 5~6× thickness (20~24 mm). Seems too much, but is still standard thickness. Let me also point that when suction lifted, only one of the glazing is holding the other 2, and only through the perimeter. No doubt it is engineered to allow that. That might be limited to the thickest layer, presumably the outside one.

@@musaran2 I edited the day. The VSG 8000 weighs 2700kg according to the website. Most the weight would be in the counter-beam I would guess. Good point about being lifted from the outer pane only. These must already be in frame (a channel). I once had to replace the roof on an octagonal sun-room that had a glass roof of double glazed units. The top panes were detaching and sliding off, not good!

It’s interesting to compare GF Texas with GF Shanghai and GF Berlin- one thing I think I notice is that GF Shanghai has most of its Utility piping running along the roof, and stormwater seems to drain directly into the open streams that run along at least two sides. I wonder if this is part of the explanation of the speed to completion/Production at GFS

As I understand it, the foundation across the freeway is for a Starlink user terminal factory. I imagine there will also be a significant up/downlink facility tying into local fiber backbone. I think that the potential applications of widespread access to affordable phased array technology as implied by this factory is a watershed event. Thousands of tinkerers will come up with novel and surprising uses like consumer scale steerable multi beam radar for drone detection and interdiction and who knows what else. We live in interesting times indeed.

Hugely underrated that there's going to be a factory building Starlink user terminals on site. I am ready to get one in addition to my home internet for use on the road, on vacations, and when multiple users are on the network. I have a Ubiqiti long-range wifi system with extenders. A Starlink terminal could turn my future Cybertruck into a mobile broadcasting unit. With small battery packs (or an indoor socket) to power the range extenders, I could a have a full-speed wifi node 600mbps at a distance of 200+ meters away from the vehicle. Have your personal wifi at national parks, at ballgames, at campgrounds. Plug in a range extender in your hotel room to connect to the one in your vehicle.

@@Nphen Provide remote access as a service to other campers wherever you are to defray costs and evangelize. Maybe act as a sales agent. Here's my wild idea; V2 terminals are apparently rectangular and so large close packed arrays are possible given sufficient supply. As long as the inxividual units, which are themselvs arrays, are assembled together such that the spacing between them is some small even multiple of the active wavelength, with proper software the whole array can be the equivalent to the flat panel units on modern warships. Likewise, many low power emitters can be focused together on say small moving targets with sufficient energy to interfere with unshielded electronics, i.e. an Iron Drone Dome for your home or business.

I would expect the trellis tower where the line changes angle to go parallel to the building to eventually get replaced with a monopole, and maybe a few others depending on how the roadway and loading docks evolve. The monopoles are much easier to protect, and they take up about 10% of the ground space. The routing is pretty much fixed, but minor tweaks could help improve factory flow.
