Think I’m the perfect parent? Not even close. A few weeks ago, I completely forgot to pick up our son. I just totally completely spaced and left him stranded.
In the car, crying and apologizing, he said something to me that shifted my whole perspective on perfection. I’m sharing it with you in this video ❤️
What is your imperfect moment? Share it with me in the comments!

@@duggydugg3937 for me , it s more like fear of failing hard , taking hits and those bitter sweet lessons. It s easy to avoid all of these and the process that makes you a better version of yourself (If you manage to survive )at the end by saying I m not ready and continue to live mediocre but "comfortable + safe" , non risky life...

You've got this😊💕 You're strong, you're doing exactly everything you have to do, which is to give your kids love and affection and they are so lucky to have you. You're amazing, you're worthy and you're thinking waaaay too much about what society thinks is a "good parent." *YOU'VE GOT THIS!!* And also, you're beautiful, did you know that? 💜😊

"The mistakes are where all the learning is." So, so true!
"start before you're ready."
I once told a woman that I didn’t want to get married because I wanted my life to be perfect for her. She said your life Is never going to be perfect and if you wait, you will lose out on a great relationship. Fast forward to 2019 and we’ve been married for 12 1/2 years and have 3 girls. 😀
Every parent (and, frankly, every person) needs to hear this.
That’s what I love about Mel. She is so real. She inspires us but she is still human and is not afraid of telling us she makes mistakes and she learns from them. It is what makes her so good, though she is showing us how to make the best of our lives, she is still one of us. Refreshing.
Trying to be perfect is literally KILLING ME

When I was growing up my dad always told me to strive for perfection. He has high expectations. Too high in my opinion. But it did push me to limits I wouldn't have reached otherwise. I guess perfection is good if used correctly. But only if used correctly.

@@moneyjar4606 perfection is not internet that we want to use it correct or not. When people push you to be perfect all you feel is pressure. No one says trying is bad. But it's just the matter of excepting that not always we can be perfect.

@@Zahra-my2iw Yeah I know. I'm just listing the personal benefits it's had on me. If I don't look at it in a positive light I'll just go on hating my dad, not good for my health, plus life's too short. I figured I'd give my advice for how to deal as a young adult growing up in that pressured environment. I mean I'm sort of an expert considering my own upbringing.

Exactly the REASON why I searched KZread and found this video...
#MelRobbins The world doesn't need another perfect person, The world needs you...
Jeez, I teared up and I don't even have kids. Your words are some of the wisest I've ever heard.
I agree. I stopped trying to be perfect when I realised how living your reality, being completely authentic has more value because what ever you are going through you will come across some people that will help you vs when I was aiming to be perfect thinking people want to see how established I am...etc I was coming across a roadblock and it was mentally draining. And when people perceive you to be perfect because that's what you're projecting but your losing in reality. It's harder to ask for help.
This really hit home with me, one of my greatest downfalls is wanting to be perfect. I have settled for jobs beneath my ability because I keep saying i'm not ready yet, I have not learned enough yet and let jobs in my field and love pass me by. I have given up on hobbies that I loved because I was not the best at it. Because of this video I have decided to just apply for the jobs that I felt that I was not good enough for and see what happens.
Aww, what a smart and understanding son
Thanks for sharing this- after my divorce, i felt constantly under the microscope - telling myself if i am late getting our son from school- if i dont do this or that...it will be marked down somewhere & reason for anyone to take my son from me- I had to realize...my ex husband moved out of state over500 miles away & some years it goes from august - christmas break until his dad is with our son!! Then it can go from january until memorial day weekend- so, how can NO ONE get on his case, yet, i am a little late & i'm the worst mom in the world? Well, even if no one else will let themselves be good to me- my son is ALWAYS good to me. I get the hugs every day- the "i loveyou"and i am here for him every day. That is the truth. And facts are facts!
Mel...I'm 64. Never met a " perfect person in my entire life, close, but not perfect! Your son taught you a valuable lesson. Now if he was a baby left in the car//daycare wherever...that would be different no matter how much one has on their plate. Mel Robbins Blessings to you and your family and your team. Gods Speed

The principle is the same but the difference is that nobody died, her son's not a baby, and at the most, he could have easily phoned her. It's the same difference as driving into a pole or running over a person.
I'm not trying to be perfect. Just trying to make it through every day
This is enuf an advice i should've heard through out my life
Awww. I had tears, too... Loved this!!! Thank you, Mel. You are raising a pretty awesome boy...
Being perfect will put us behind, worrying about what others think and not focusing on the right thing. You are an inspirational, Mel!

I totally had a mom/wife fail today (and was still feeling the heavy load of guilt), and needed to hear this.
The world doesn't need another perfect person . It needs you ✨ START BEFORE YOU ARE READY
True your self it will always decide your way
Thanks for sharing this as it shows how hectic life can get when you get pulled in many directions and have many responsibilities all at the same time whilst also trying to work on life goals. Wow just even writing this makes me realise what a difficult juggling act it can be sometimes.
When it comes to others, I always try to be gentle, understanding, encouraging & supportive. However, when it comes to myself, I become so frustrated by myself with even the slightest mistake. Like dropping things, mixing my words up, tripping over my own feet (etc). It's actually become a mantra that I never intended "Why can't I be perfect, like everyone else?". I actively HATE the fact that I'm a little too human, feeling judged by others when they see me trip, or drop things, I don't even like eating in front of people. It's causing me to live a life of total solitude and I can't stand it anymore.
Thank you so much for sharing. I think it’s been a major weight taken off of me 😊 Too many yrs I’ve been there for all family, etc. I was once called, “The responsible one!” Now, I’m just so tired of all that. Thank you again 😘 Blessings!!

WOW! Totally needed this today. Thank you.
This was so needed by me today! Thank you Mel!
I love you Mel! You speak directly to me every time. You’re the realest.
Amazing one, it came on time! I was thinking like this a few days before. Sometimes we’re trying to make things perfect, we invest so much time on that and most of the time after we finish the thing itself we say that it was better to to make the thing faster and make it the way normal better than perfection with consuming that so much load of time!
That words was exactly what I needed to hear today. I'm feeling so emotional. It is hard to don't want the perfection from ourselves.
Omg! Hugs and kisses for you and your babies ! God bless thank you for this moment!
I needed this today for sure. Thank you!
Mel, from the bottom of my heart: Thank you so so much for your videos! Because of them I'm able to pull through a difficult time in my life right now. At times I was so desperate that I wanted to throw it all away ... and then stumbled over your TED talk ... and thought: "What the heck?! What she said made perfectly sense. I want to try this and see if I can get out of my shit train." And I did. It doesn't work every time and I still get stuck sometimes, but I'm moving forward. After remaining at this messed up place in my head for so long, it's amazing to finally feel more like myself again! It's fine to be stressed out about stuff. I DON'T NEED TO BE PERFECT.
😭 ❤️ I needed this! Thank You
I needed to hear this today. Thank you, Mel.
Awwww, you've obviously done lots of things right with that child!! ❤🥰👌 Children are very forgiving especially when they see that we are trying.
Thank you Mel, just thank you for every word that hits me personally
Thank you so much Mel! I needed to hear exactly this message today. God bless you!
Your videos are always inspiring me to be a better person.

Thank you. This is just what I need to hear today.

i remember this from you old coffee talk. There is no such thing as perfect but that you strive to be better than you were yesterday.
Thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏼💗
Thanks Mel. Just what I needed to hear today 😢💜
You made me cry my eyes out...in a good way! Thank you! I’m told how imperfect I am almost everyday... I now know that is not okay. I’m fine and happy being me. And I’m a really nice person! 😃
Omgosh, ty Mel😊🥰
Love how a bit of subtle music can make, even the most innocent case of child neglect, sound like sage advice. LOL. Thank you for sharing. We have all been there.
Thank you 🙏 for this ❤️
Oh boy I needed to hear this!! I have been procrastinating starting a KZread Channel for a little over a year because I am not perfect and boy do I have ADD!! Right now I am severely anemic and I can't do a lot because I get tired fast. I think its God way of telling me this is down time for you to get your shit together and start planning and just doing no more trying to be perfect just do and learn!
