The truth about life, success, and failure is everything depends on you. The problem is that you, and nearly every other person around, defaults to being at the mercy of the people, the environments, and unfortunate situations that mark the course of life. Mel Robbins is the personification of motivation on steroids packed with a high potency of raw truth. You could say she’s joining Tom to discuss her newest book, The High 5 Habit, but it’s more fitting to say she’s back to give you the kick in the ass you’ve been waiting for. Mel is not only talking about why high fiving yourself is powerful, she’s reminding you that you have a responsibility to heal yourself and do the work. While you’re chasing your dreams, understand that what the world sees as failure may just be a massive success in the timeline of your life, as has been the case for Mel Robbins.

QUOTES:
“I hope that when somebody listens to our conversation and watches this that they have a massive a-ha moment, but it’s not going to mean fucking shit if you don’t take action and do something about it.” [3:01]
“You are going to find yourself not at 25, but 45 or 65, and you're going to be so filled with regret that you never fucking put a bet on yourself.” [6:29]
“When you start to have a moment with yourself, the crazy part is you start to build a partnership with yourself.” [15:01]
“Beating yourself up will not make you do the work to get healthy, and tearing yourself down over the shit that you've done or the terrible relationships that you're in it's not going to empower you to change the patterns that are keeping you stuck.” [24:50]
“The thing about jealousy is, it's just your inspiration that's blocked. Jealousy is sort of the insecurity that you have that blocks this inspiration” [35:55]
“Most people aren't obsessed with their goals, because they don't believe they're worthy of them.” [40:36]
“If you don't, at some point, be defiant, against what the world or your caregivers or your past experience has pounded into your brain incorrectly, unfairly, you will forever be stuck with that story.” [41:16]
“You can have nothing, and you can still have your own back. You can have tremendous problems and very real obstacles that you're facing, and you can have a mindset that says, through my efforts, my attitude, I can have an impact on the situation that I'm in.” [45:09]

@Armando Corona The commitment is to help myself and eventually get strong enough to help others. Motivation comes from always learning about my body, my mind, my past, myself and trying to find away to incorporate what I have learned to make myself one day better than yesterday. "Just take that first step. Then another and another and sooner or later you will look back and see that you are at the top of the staircase." Thank you Greatly.

I just wanna chuck my 2 cents in so I have found that the best thing that has helped me get out of bed in the morning, get off drugs, quit smoking and then improve my life the way I want it is by learning how the body and mind works and then doing something about it. These videos have been life changing and I couldn't respect it all anymore until I learn something new. 😁

For me the best part of this was definitely her pointing out that beating yourself up doesn't work. There's so much motivational stuff out there that talks about being hard on yourself but if you do that you just end up feeling worse. It's really important to have compassion and empathy towards yourself instead of beating yourself up.

I love that concept of high fiving yourself in the mirror instead of looking at your insecurities. In islam we that something I wouldn't say similar but very positive that we do when standing in front of the mirror. It's a prayer that we say and I think it's solves every insecurity of body and self. It goes like this: O Allah, You have beautified my body, so do beautify my character.

@@debbiemohekey1509 I looked it up - "Envy is when we lack a desired attribute or possession enjoyed by someone else." "Jealousy is when something we have is threatened by a third person." The above... from Psychology Today. Websters def. is basically the same, i.e., "Jealousy is when you worry someone will take what you have." "Envy is wanting what someone else has " So, although your original comment was that 'someone' was confusing the two terms, Your reply about 'Jealousy' indicates you have the 2 terms confused. (Although, by 'someone' having the two confused, I took to mean you meant Mel?) Unfortunately, You have it exactly backwards. You seem to have mixed up both definitions and combined them to mean Jealousy. You are, according to YOUR definition of Jealousy agreeing with Mel's usage of the term 'Jealousy'. (Coveting what someone else has and resenting them for having is 'Envy' - not 'Jealousy'.) Sorry -maybe a typo? - but you just gave the def. of 'Envy', but termed it as 'Jealousy.'

"The only thing that matters in life is are you having fun? Are you working on something that matters to you?" -Tom This is such a deeply simplistic view of reality, I have to say. When you really analyze that statement, it is a deep philosophical claim to truth. I would argue there are lots of things that matter more than that. Is it important? Sure. But not the ONLY thing that matters in life.

The Vermont painting was exactly the story I needed to hear! I have dreams that have been my head since I was 7 years old, and here it is 25 years later and those dreams are still there like a "splinter in your mind" as Morpheus says in the Matrix. I'm going to start high-fiving myself everyday, starting today!

I had that painting experience with necklaces- which were a pair I found at a rummage sale at 13yrs old. I only bought one. The other extremely distinct original necklace found me in a goodwill store when I was 18yrs old. Naturally recognizing the amazing experience that it came back around to me, I bought it. I still have the pair.

I always stop what I'm doing to hear Mel speak. And this one does not disappoint. One thing that could be defined better is the difference between jealously and envy. Jealousy is fear of losing what you already have to someone else. And envy is wanting what somebody else already has. I feel that envy is what Mel was talking about

The coolest thing about Mel Robbins (and what makes her one of the best influencers out there) is that she speaks from MASSIVE experience. Really, one of a kind. Pay attention to what she's saying. Tons of fuckups, doubts, everything what she's talking about can and should be lessons (and actionable behavioral patterns; I can't wait to read the book and apply it to my routine) for us and it's awesome she's willing to share. Not to mention tons of research she had to do for this book. Listen, learn, and DO. Thank You, Mel! Thank You, Tom! 🙏

For anyone reading this, I've started making it a habit to tell myself 3 things as soon as I wake up, before I go to bed, and throughout the day whenever I get a wave of self doubt, anxiety, etc. 1.) I love myself. 2.) I believe in myself & I trust myself that I am capable to giving myself everything I've ever desired. I believe in myself that I will be get myself where I am supposed to be. 3.) I accept myself fully - everything that I am, every thought that I have, every interest, every quirk, every hardship I've had, everything I've done to myself....I accept myself fully. That last thing, the acceptance, has really shifted my heart. I think so many of us want to be loved and accepted by everyone around us, but never fully stopped to give our own selves this full acceptance. Please try these 3 things, they will change you. xx

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this. I just tried high diving myself and had a conversation with my brain and asked it do you really want to continue going on like this constantly doubting and criticizing myself? Let's work together and great each other better. I know it sounds crazy but I feel a sense of a partnership with myself for once... Like were working on the same team. Take action in spite of what you think of feel about it.

Tom , you bring so much value to our world. Thank you to you and your wife and team and all the guests for everything you are sharing with us! I feel super motivated after these episodes but then find myself falling back to same old patterns, and not take action. My house is still a mess, and my tasks overwhelm me. I always procrastinate and make excuses. I know what needs to change but can’t seem to do it. With dreams, I just don’t know where to start and it scares me overall. I love all this motivational and inspirational things, but then don’t do anything about it within myself

I AM TRULY INSPIRED - You speak my language and I am sharing your blessings with others every chance I get @Mel Robbins & Tom Bilyeu. Apart from the curse words. This message YOU ARE PUTTING INTO THE UNIVERSE IS A 100% GROUNDED IN REAL TIME TRUTH. I give gratitude to our creator for connecting me to you on this platform, I am forever a better me this instant than I was before I watched this video. The more raw truth we come to terms with in our lives the closer we are to changing them. I decided to start a library to grow my knowledge. But I never found a book I actually wanted to read. Your book is the second in my library. The Bible takes first place.
