About the difficulty of starting. It's like using a handsaw to cut a piece of wood. The saw slips and slides around, barely making a cut. But once that first initial cut is started, the saw blade begins to carve and cut its way through the wood with relative ease.

Do all the things you never thought you could because you were a mom or wife, etc., whatever the reason you thought. I left 2 abusive relationships of 13y and 5y... and literally got accepted and enrolled in graduate school for my LMSW while at a domestic violence shelter in 2011! I had 5 children at the time ages 1y to 17y. If I can get unstuck from that, anyone can! I also got my dog I always wanted and she had brought so much joy to my life. So for me getting unstuck was getting my education and my Weimaraner, Penny. Figure out the things you stopped doing that made you... you. And also the things you always wanted to do but thought you couldn't because of all the excuses or legitimately because of your children or marriage and go do that. Even if it's one little thing that brings you joy, like sitting in a book store for as long as you like and having a warm pastry and tea. Find your joy! It's out there and it's inside of you! Blessing ls to you! ❤

This video really came at the perfect time! There is a lot of hard truths in it that I didn't want to face. I've been affected post Covid, where as a result of the vaccines/Covid, I now have Long Covid, POTS and nerve damage. I was unable to do much for myself or my family. Being bedridden, I lost my job, my ability to do a lot of things and myself. I've slowly learned to adapt but hadn't actually accepted that it happened. Now that I have some guidance, I can now apply this to my life in order to move forward again. Thank you for sharing these videos. Your wisdom is very much appreciated! May love and good health surround you always ❤

I love this and have been applying the 5 sec rule to my life. TY! AND for those of us with ADHD / who are neurodivergent, the following has been helpful for me 1) extrinsic motivation: I think we need expanded definition and examples of it. Personally, I am finding in order for me to SUCCESSFULLY shift a behavior or mind pattern, I NEED a positive extrinsic motivation like: having client sessions or group trainings - something I need to show up for with others - for accountability and that I enjoy to motivate me. And/or creating an external environment cues (see both I Have ADHD podcast and How to ADHD youtube channel for more) that increases motivation - like recently I’m implementing I’m doing work sessions at library 10am during weekdays with FUN built in - set timer and every hour I take a break and have a dance/ stretch / walk break outside. Also coworking zoom sessions with fellow artist entrepreneurs. 2) Intrinsic motivation - personally I also was feeling frustrated as I hadnt been shifting some habits that were not serving me and beating myself up wasn’t helping and I was just struggling to get into action to work on my biz at home alone no matter what I was doing. I’m finding I need to get curious and better know my WHY I’m choosing that negative habit, and WHaT does my nervous system / inner child / subconscious NEED that this habit is serving. In order to shift it and replace it with a new habit and with action. I will just distract or numb myself and eventually return without this why. After the pause, which 5 sec rule really helps with, AND awareness if what need am I filling with this distraction? Then I move to how can I meet that need in a healthier way? I need to be connected to the deeper why in order to shift this at a subconscious level. Just sharing in case this resonates with others. I will be sharing more on my IG AT ericaignite if u want to follow along with my journey 😊

I also just want to say if u have ADHD or other nuerodivergency you have HIGH shame and LOW control of executive functioning and prefrontal cortex… so for me not to continue to perpetuate shame spiral then thought loops then choosing habits that aren’t serving me, its been CRITICAL for me to judge less my habits and get more curious around the deeper why and find solutions that work for me and my brain and my creative, artistic, social self. ❤

I agree… though not easy, PUSHING myself to do something as simple as making the bed when I get up (even though no one else will know!!), I know how it makes me feel deep inside when I’m passing I see my bed made up OR ~ when it isn’t! Now THAT feeling when it’s undone, makes me feel really bad about myself. This morning I almost didn’t make my bed (because it was a rough night and I’m tired ~ I told myself!). But then… I thought about my promise to myself that though I am home, I would be sure to make my bed EVERY WEEKDAY (giving myself a weekend pass~ if need be🙄). So, I got up and made it! I’ve also made a point over the last several months when feeling overwhelmed or depressed to actually timed myself at an activity that I plan to put off such as making my bed. And really the amount of time that it takes to do that or to wash the dinner dishes before bed or something of that sort really takes only a matter of minutes. And so that’s what I try to remind myself just three minutes for this… You can do it; just five minutes for that… You can do it! JUST DOING IT really does ease THAT stress. Thanks Mel, for all the time you put in to helping others manage the little everyday matters!

When your a singer or a sport pro then you can’t afford to be tired that’s for sure - the nights I get to sleep later because of insomnia or whatever I can’t get up when the alarm rings if I do I can’t perform with up to 30min less sleep it affects all
