Liz's dad reveal was one of the best plot twists I've ever seen. Peter was just as shocked as people in the theater. Like, the whole Bucky vs Tony's parents situation had a little build up, this one was out of nowhere.

That was a great twist. I always thought Vulture was a lame villain, but Michael Keaton brings some real menace to the character. The "Dad talk" scene had me on needles and pins!

The AI Tony designed for himself is sarcastic, and hit back at him when he insults him. The AI Tony designed for Peter is reassuring, gives him positive reinforcement, had training wheels. Tony is an engineer, he expresses himself in his work. He cares, it's just tough love. The only reason he invited him into the Avengers was he kept breaking Tony's restrictions, Tony can appreciate a hot head who breaks the rules, and wanted to help guide his growth if he wanted to take that leap. But then he decided not to leap, and Tony smirked, he's proud the kid made the right choice.

The car scene remains the most tense MCU moment to me. Also: my favorite moment of character arc continuity is Tony telling Peter, 'if you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it'.The exact lesson he himself learned in Iron Man 3.

Big agree on both points. Tony really saw a reflection of himself in Peter in that moment (well, especially strong in that moment, he definitely sees a bit of himself in the boy anyway). And he absolutely didn't want Peter to go into the same deep end that he did, especially not because of his gift.

With all the crazy antagonists Marvel has in this crazy cinematic universe of theirs, Michael Keaton in his regular dad clothes, threatening Peter with a gun is still one of the most menacing sequences in the past decade of not just Marvel films but films in general.

dude keaton did amazing. he has VERY little screen time. and he is one of the stand out villains from the spider-man movies.

"If you're nothing without the suit, you shouldn't have it." Wise words coming from Tony, who has proved beyond doubt who he is without the suit, especially after Iron Man 3.

I'm usually pretty good at seeing these kind of plot twists ahead of time, but this one got me. I did think something was going to happen, but I tought he was just getting pranked or something.

When that building fell down on him and he was crying out...that was the only time I saw him as a kid and it broke me a little.

fuck sony. they should just give the rights back instead of trying to milk it by constantly remaking crappy superhero movies. although the chemistry between peter and gwen in amazing spiderman was really good. would've been nice to see andrew garfield in the mcu, if they made it earlier.

That reveal with her dad as the Vulture is so good. I feel like most movies would have you meet the dad first and then later reveal in a ~shocking twist~ that he's the villain, but i don't think it would be as surprising or tense if done that way

I love the car scene, because the lighting around Vulture is all oranges and reds but turns green when he figures out that Peter is Spider-man. So clever.

Principal Morita is the grandson of Jim Morita, one of the Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger. It’s not mentioned in the film, but they’re played by the same actor, Kenneth Choi, and there are pictures in the Principal’s office of the Commandos, and probably the reason the school still uses the Cap PSAs

I think what I love about this movie is that it really drives home how very young he is. He’s dealing with immense responsibilities and he’s 15. I think it makes him an even more heroic character than an adult put in the same situation.

It also is really cool that whenever things are going really badly for him (like when he gets crushed under a building) his first response is to call for help, to look for someone else to be the hero... but nobody comes to save him and he has to step up. That said, the script, direction, acting and cinematography in that movie are absolutely stellar and it deserved the oscars it won, without question.

@@sertaki Can’t really watch Birdman before watching the Batman movies and learning about Keaton’s career. Kind of need that knowledge to appreciate the dark satire of that film.

To be fair, that end credit scene is my favourite. Just the fact that it got me at the Cinema... Like I waited that whole time, complaining that I have to sit through them just to be trolled by Captain America. It is hillarious.

The 'smush it real flat' is about squishing it with a grill (like a panini, or a cuban sandwich). He couldn't do it himself. Also, if you haven't had a sandwich like that, you need to get one, they are great.

What's funny is there's this theme of Peter holding himself back unintentionally. Because he could have literally torn that guy's arms off and beat him to death with them if he wanted to. But he reacts like a kid facing a scary adult.

Keaton's vulture IS scary, and intimidating as hell. Because he convinces you that he'll do exactly what he says, without hesitation or remorse. And at that moment, yes, Peter could rip Adrian's arms off, as if he'd ever do so under the circumstances. Helluva lot harder when he's the Vulture.

He played Peter perfectly (for this movie anyways)... My only problem is that he's clearly not a 15 year old kid, he still looks young but... not 15 young. Which is super standard and okay... it's just the movie does so much to capture the spirit of being in HS that's just a little weird.

High School Principle Morita is the grandson of Jim Morita, the member of the Howling Commandos who served with Captain America. He was the one that said "I'm from Fresno Ace," during the original prison break, and you can see the black & white photo of him on the Principle's desk.

One thing that I'll miss is watching these on release night in a packed theater. The moment Liz's father answered the door, the whole room gasped just as you did. lmao And I agree. It probably is the best twist moment in all of the MCU. Also, the post-credit scene was met with a grown and laughter. Some guy behind me was like, "You gotta be fucking with me." He was gutted. XD

Oh. Ragnarok/BP/Infinity War is an insanely great next 3 movies.

You much watch Batman 89. The actress who voices the voice is the actual wife of the actor who played Jarvis. This movie came out before the name Karen was a meme.

All your requests for Peter to leave it alone or let it go is why you've always got to think of the origin stories. Peter can't just let it go. That's his defining trait as a hero.

That 'Patience' end credit scene is my favourite one from the entire MCU

“Whose house is this?” Aww man! I know we all had that reaction when we found out who that house belonged to!

A couple of things that made me chuckle: "MCU comics" and calling Flash Thompson "The Flash". Also, Vulture and Shocker aren't the only Spider-Man villains featured in this movie. The guy Vulture/Adrian was supposed to meet on the ferry was Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion, and the guy Adrian had working for him who developed the tools and weapons is also a Spider-Man adversary from the comics called the Tinkerer.

I just realized that michael keaton was a DC hero in Tim Burtons "Batman" and "Batman returns." Going from I'm batman to I'm a bad man.

They don’t really emphasise it in the movies but Spider-Man has an enhanced healing factor much like Wolverine, although not quite as fast. So he doesn’t need to go to any hospitals.

When I saw this in the theatre...the reveal of the dad got one of the loudest gasps I’ve heard for a movie.

The 'No Person' advert had me rolling. Well done, editor/s.

1.) I love how half the time Natalie calls him Tom instead of Peter. hehe. 2.) "There's only one falcon ok? And it's NOT YOU!!" Yeah!

The first end credit scene is setting up Sinister Six stuff, Scorpion and Vulture are two of the most iconic members...I really hope they show up in Spider-Man 3

Actually, in my opinion, all the trouble that Peter got into was actually Happy's and Tony's fault. Tony put Happy in charge of keeping an eye on him, and Happy mostly ignored him, and Tony failed to make sure Happy was keeping an eye on Peter. Not to mention, if Tony had explained that ge had gotten the FBI involved instead of not telling him anything, Peter might not have messed up the sting.

Donald Glover's character, Aaron Davis, is also known as the villain the Prowler in the Marvel universe. You hear him mention that "he has a nephew who lives in the neighborhood". That nephew is Miles Morales, who later becomes Spider-Man in the comics. Subtle Easter Egg for the deep Marvel fans in the audience.

One fun thing that they later confirmed is that Peter Parker was the kid in the Iron Man mask that Tony Stark saved at the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2.

That PSA in the middle of this was amazing lol well done!

I love how totally immersed Natalie is when she reacting to movie. Especially the ones I like. Soooo can't wait for the far from home reaction.

It got cut fro the video, but Tonys line "If you're nothing without that suit, you don't deserve it" is a really cool callback to his lesson in Iron Man 3.

I still love the reveal of Adrian as Liz’s dad and the tension that whole sequence. The people in the theater I was in lost their minds when that happened. Micheal Keaton and Tom Holland gave such good performances in this

Just a great movie with the perfect mix of humor, action and suspense. Love Tom's character arc.

Spidey was always my favorite superhero growing up, his were the only books I really collected, LOVE this interpretation of him. Also... Ned's just the best. He's the kind of character that too much of him risks coming off obnoxious, but they used just the right amount. Love how excited he is when he gets to be the Guy in the Chair!

Hearing you say you may be watching Agents of SHIELD makes me so excited!! So many MCU fans didn’t give that show a shot during season 1 and missed out on what came later!

@@ramdelure How does direct connections to the MCU affect enjoyment? I never understood that. The connections should be the icing on top, not the main focus. You can blame Feige for not including AoS in his plans, but I fail to see how you watch 6 seasons and decide since it doesn’t directly tie into IW it’s not worth it?

@@ramdelure Well that's not actually the fault of the show. The movie makers pretty much stopped communication with the showrunners at that point and didn't fill them in about the "Snap* or any other parts of the storyline to keep it secret. Thus the show was not able to write the show around that info. So basically they show had to split from the MCU timeline at that point. But I also agree with WTD. that the show stands on it's own. Scenes connecting to the MCU movies were fun. Otherwise, if you're only watching it for the connections to the movies then you only get to watch a few episodes anyway.

The twist, followed by the scene in the car is genius and tense.

Spider-Man is insanely strong. In the comics he pulls every punch because he doesn't want to kill anybody. Peter is also a scientific genius on par with Stark and Banner.

@@Apochalypze I think because of the way they are writing this Spider-Man, the scientific 'genius' stuff almost has to come in later movies. Thus far, he's still in high school and he's still learning basic things. Plus, he's been learning how to be a superhero at the same time. I would expect to see him being 'genius-like' in future films alongside other smart people like Banner, Strange, and.... some guy with decent flexibility. 😉

I really needed this Nat. Today I lost my uncle to covid and I needed something to take my mind off of that. This made me smile, for a little while. So thanks!
