SNL Crew about Steven Seagal When He Tries To Be Funny
Ойын-сауық
A story about the hilarious performance of Steven Seagal in Saturday Night Live.
Back in April 1991, when the Aikido master had not yet fully transformed into a penguin, and rumors of his cookies-eating records in strip clubs had not yet spread across the world.
Some strange individuals paid money to movie theaters simply to watch Steven Seagal flailing his hands and pushing stuntmen around.

Steven Seagal is the same type of accidental comedic genius as Tommy Wiseau.

Oh man, thank you for posting this! I have heard stories about this SNL episode, but I had never seen it for myself.
I’d forgotten he used to occasionally annunciate, allowing us mere mortals to hear what he was saying.
I remember this episode like it was yesterday. An unmitigated nightmare from start to finish. Horrid in every possible way. Seagull had this attitude of, "If you don't kiss my butt, I'm just going to take my ball and go home." And everyone keeps reminding him, "IT'S NOT EVEN YOUR BALL!" The infamous 20 minutes that made me think that the show must be over for some reason. Victoria Jackson wasn't the only cast member who seemed terrified of him. The brain marvels at how, during some part of the week, they didn't realize, fully at least, that this pathetic idiot was going to literally sink the show is beyond understanding. My God, these guys made Wayne Gretzky look funny but they couldn't do it to Seagull! I still question what would have happened if John Belushi had been there that night, because I don't believe he would have entertained this guy's stupidity for a second. Go ahead and show/talk more about this episode. But I don't think there's anything else to learn. It was so bad that it was actually, really horrible.

This was the first "modern" SNL I watched when I was 8 years old. I had seen the original cast SNL from reruns on VH1 in the late 80s, but this was my first proper exposure to studio 8H at 11:30pm. I remember it blew my mind that something like this even existed. The sketches I remember most are the Rob Schneider "copy guy" one where Seagal hung Schneider out a window, and a funeral home commercial that promised their staff wouldn't engage in necrophilia with Phil Hartman and Mike Myers. My older sister, who was excited to share SNL with me, repeatedly apologized due to Seagal's terrible performance. I was just happy to stay up until 1am and experience the show.

You are talking about it. That's what Lorne wanted, and what Lorne got. See the night that Letterman told Madonna to come on his show and curse constantly. It was horrible, but in a subtle way, it re-started her career. "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

@@alexlantz Well, if you want to go back to the 80's, the gag where someone says "I am the worst host ever" and Lorne replies "No, that's ____" was originally said about Joe Pesci (yeah, I'm so old I saw this live). So the joke is repeated but the name changed to Seagal. So clearly Seagal was bad enough to revamp the earlier joke.

Considering SNL in the last few years, the fact he’s still on top of the worst guests in terms of being intentionally funny is quite an achievement.
Although Eddie was a cast member, Charlie Murphy was always somewhere close by. I wonder how different it would’ve been if Seagull was around him.
Steven Seagull, the action star of the sea With feathers of black, and eyes sharp as can be He takes flight with a mighty screech His moves so fast, he's hard to breach He's known for his martial arts skills Aikido his weapon, his heart it fills With strength and power, he's unmatched In every fight, he won't be dispatched With wings that span and claws so sharp He's feared by many, but never a harp For justice is his only goal To protect the ocean, and all its shoal Steven Seagull, a hero of the sea A true embodiment of loyalty For those who cross him, they will see The wrath of his beak, and claws so free

He came back from Japan in 1984, he lived in Hollywood and was training Kelly LeBrock at his Dojo from early 1985 to get fit for a role, she co-starred with Anthony Michael Hall in Weird Science in the spring of 1985, Anthony had signed a contract with SNL prior to working on Weird Science and was a cast member of SNL in the 1985/86 season. Steven & Kelly started dating near the end of the Weird Science production and Steven also knew Anthony through Kelly, they did promotional tours on the talk show circuit and crossed paths a few times. There's no way he hadn't at least heard of SNL and have a vague idea what it was, it would be like saying you have no idea what WWE is because you've never watched it.
In a way I feel sorry for Stephen, as people usually get this way because they exist in an alt-reality bubble of positive affirmative, when really you’re the idiot everyone secretly enjoys laughing at, but nobody will ever tell you that because it’ll ruin their fun, and you’ll get upset, so you don’t know, so you will never get a chance to try not to be an idiot. Lol. So basically, most reality TV stars.
I love to hate Seagal, but that SNL appearance is so cringe I can't bare to watch.

Well Kane Hodder was a stunt man in under sege and people was chanting Jason and Steven said who the F is Jason? And Kane Hodder simply said that be me. He didn't like that Kane took the spot light and Signing autographs because of playing Jason Voorhees. Steven Seagal isn't a very nice person.

The guy also flat out assaulted John Leguizamo on the set of Executive Decision, guy introduced himself to the cast by saying “I am in charge, my word is law” and when John rightfully laughed at the ridiculousness of a man (who wasn’t even in the main cast mind you) introducing himself like that Steven elbowed John in the neck and pushed him into a wall
Steven Seagal haters are the worst. Always talk big on social media but never have the guts to confront the man personally about it. Having said that, I agree he was probably the worst host for SNL. The man isn't an actor. He is a professional martial artist who has trained thousands of people in martial arts for nearly 50 years who just happened to have a film career that was unexpected. Seagal never tried out to be an actor. He was a trainer and bodyguard. Top that off, he was trained in Japan , and the Japanese culture is so serious and different from any other culture that most will never understand it unless living through it. PS on a side note, one has to wonder how Chevy Chase would've handled working with Seagal on that episode?

Honestly, even back in the 90's, I didn't really like Seagull, there is something that put me off with him as he always look like he had a shit burger and look pissed. However, most of my classmates at the time think he is "He is cooler than Bruce Lee and a true CIA agent!" crap, which many believed, because back then, there wasn't Internet to debunk his bullcrap. I think his movie where he never get injured or just being sadistic to the bad guys put me off. Not to mention his acting make him looks like an asshole than a sympathetic protagonist
