Shaping the front widebody flare. - Sky-gea build: Part 16
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Part 16 of the Stagea GTR Conversion. Coming back to the Stagea for everyone's favorite type of content, sanding. In this video we start refining the shape on the front fender, preparing the front fender plug for eventual mould making
A slightly shorter episode this time as I had a lot of IRL stuff going on in the background. I chipped away at this one slowly over the past couple weeks but it's a lot of very repetitive stuff so I actually omitted most of it when putting together this video.

As someone who has done the type of full scale prototyping you are doing, I must say your videos are wonderfully edited. Everyday people have NO IDEA who much you do not show. This is hard, dusty work. Hats off to you, I cannot wait to see the results.

so much sanding oh my god ^^
Hey man the pipeing bag is something they do in boat building as well, you can just use a thick bag and snip a corner off to save cash on supplies, when your doing skim coats try adding some poly resin to your bog it makes the cheap builder fill into high quality filler I've done 3 cars fenders in this same way so much work your doing a super tidy job so far

Man, I can't fathom the amount of energy it requires to do something as tedious as this. I love watching the process, but the thought of this much trial and error, in a shop with no music, just alone with your thoughts, seems utterly exhausting to me.

This is less of a "wow that looks so good" episode and more of a "wow that's so much work" episode 😮
I have used a Chalking Gun with the tube cleaned out of it's previous content and refilled with adhesives or filler or plaster when working on the house over the years, as if it make getting stuff you need into places then if it works it is an easier way of getting a job done. Never thought about using a piping bag before.
@TofuAutoWorks

Whats funny is that this was exactly what I wanted to do, but I'd just thrown out all my old caulking tubes a few weeks ago. It's classic how that always seems to happen. Sort of like losing a tool and then right when you come back from the shop with a new one you find the old one.
Nothing stupid about that piping bag trick! I've done a similar thing many times by packing a ziploc bag with filler and cutting a corner off; you've just taken that to the next logical level ;D
Sensacional show parabéns.👍👍👍👍✌️

Very nice work, it's looking great! The subtitles you provide really help all the videos. Have you considered 'burning' them into the video? That way people won't have to turn on CC, or maybe they missed the instructions at the beginning. I wonder if more people see the CC of you'd have more subscribers. Because your content is really great! 👍
@TofuAutoWorks

Thanks mate! When I first started this channel I used to burn the English subtitles in. The reason I don't do that anymore is because these days less than half of my audience speaks English, and so I provide subtitles in all my most common languages. But I do have to admit that KZread's handling of captions has been pretty poor and I notice a lot of bugs and issues with them. My end goal is to produce content in a way that is descriptive enough with no narration at all so that all my videos work fine with or without subtitles.

@@TofuAutoWorks that's a great point! I don't have a problem with the CC. It was just a thought. The multiple languages makes complete sense, and I don't have any better idea on handling that haha. Keep up the good work!
So much bog, I can understand how you've managed to develop so many techniques that actually work!! Mind you, the Plaster of Paris attempt didn't work out so well... what actually happened with that, did I miss an episode??
@TofuAutoWorks
9 ай бұрын
I took it off at the end of that episode because it wasn't giving me the precision I was after and due to the weather here the past few months, each layer of it took over a day to cure. The body filler was definitely more of a workout and really chewed through the 40 grit but it was worth it to be able to apply material and then start sanding it 10 minutes later. I'd say if you're making a one off part and not planning on making moulds, and you can afford the time to let it cure, using jointing compound / plaster is still a good approach.

💪🏽 Awesome work as always & congrats on passing 100K, well deserved. Curious if you've ever worked with glass bondo ? heard it's easier to build up material but curious what you think.
@TofuAutoWorks
10 ай бұрын
I've never actually seen Bondoglass or Bondo in New Zealand but I have used a few glass fiber reinforced fillers and even made my own mixing body filler, resin, and glass together. I typically use it on finished pieces that need the strength but for building up a form, this cheap body filler is still the best. 👍

@@TofuAutoWorks thanks for your input mate, really appreciate it 👍🏽
The best KZread channels inspire viewers to have a go at something similar and yours does that in spades. Don't be shy to include the back and forth, that's an important part of the process. One thing I don't understand is why you took all the trouble to perfect the first set of Fenders only to the then cover up most of them?
@TofuAutoWorks
10 ай бұрын
Thanks man. One of the reasons this episode was shorter and I didn't show as much back and forth is that there was so much else going on in the barn this week that I couldn't just move everything out of the way to record and so I did a lot of work this week off camera. And that's a question I get asked a lot. So I always knew I would be making a widebody for this, and the reason I made those first set of fenders was because I still needed the headlight, bonnet, and door lines, along with all the mounting tabs which obviously these overfenders weren't going to have. This inner arch section that you see me covering up with the over-fender was never perfect on the base fender, in fact you can even see some ripples in it on the passengers side. My original plan was to make this kit with a set of fenders and overfenders for the front, but I've decided now to make them easier to install and get alignment / fitment perfect, I will be permanently fixing this flare to this fender and remaking this side of the split moulds that you saw me make for the original fender. This way the overfender and fender will look like 2 separate pieces to match the rear overfenders, but they will be made in one piece to make them way easier to install but also a little cheaper.

If it's stupid, but it works, It's not stupid.
Hey just had a thought, since you are measuring off the wheel center did you have the car aligned before starting this series? Keep up the awesome work
@TofuAutoWorks
10 ай бұрын
Yup, having a proper wheel alignment and checking all the suspension heights are equal around the car is very important. Also important with the front wheels to keep checking that the steering is straight as everytime you lift the car up it moves around a little. If you don't do an alignment it wont make too much difference in the end because there's always a little shifting around when you move from the plugs to the moulds and then finally to fiberglass parts.

Имеет смысл сделать его более округлым или продлить накладку до линии передних дверей. Смоделируйте это на фотографии, может быть я прав. Успехов в реализации проекта.
