The Stagea Is Back! Fixing The 3D Prints. Sky-gea Build: Part 25
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It's back!
First off thank you all for the wait, I know it's been a while.
In this episode I put a tonne of work into getting these 3D prints to sit nicely and smooth out any imperfectsions. There were so many more setbacks than I planned for and just about every step of this process went wrong. But, this is all part of learning and I can't beat myself up too much. You learn more through your mistakes than your successes.
I'm back to my regular uploads so you can expect a new video every 2 weeks (1 week to film, 4 days to edit, 3 days off to work on other things)
Thank you all again for sticking with me. I hope you enjoy all the videos to come as we wrap up this Stagea build this year and start mixing in other projects.
Enjoy the video.
Please consider supporting me on Patreon. There's a lot of time and cost in making these videos and I would love to be able to do these full time to make even more content for you. There are heaps of special rewards and behind the scenes posts so please check it out.

Don't get disheartened by the difficulties you face, mate! What you're doing is absolutely mind blowing and everyone who watches and follows you adores the work you do. I'm working on a completely different type of project car (restomod), far easier in complexity, yet seeing an episode come out motivates me immeasurably to go to the shop and start wrenching. Keep on keeping on, brother!

This going to look awseome when done. Best thing to do is take a break so you dont resent the project and quit. I think these kits will sell very well.
I know the feeling when you've spent countless hours on something, just to realize it has to be scrapped and redone... 😢 Just keep at it, the car looks amazing!
man... im just so happy to see someone use an angle grinder guard, after having a disk break in welding shop class years ago. its just nice to see some ppe being used.

Goodness! Thanks for the video. Keep pushing through those challenges, buddy! Your work is amazing and inspires so many. Watching your episodes fuels my motivation to get to work. Remember, every hurdle you overcome brings you closer to greatness. Keep it up, and never doubt the impact you're making!
Work of art
Thank you for posting, even though you've suffered a few setbacks. Your videos always inspire me to work harder, and for that I am greatly appreciative.
With all this work going in to make such an incredible looking piece of art, you can see why even cheap body kits cost so much. Fantastic job on this! You really do have a keen eye for all those little details
Great work man, I feel the pain, it’s not easy beeing an creative fabricator but this is really looking good! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I found this channel after I searched for making your own body kit for a GTR. All the hardwork and challenges you come across, will show in the long run that they were so worth it.
I was about to ‘work on my car’, but the time was much better spent watching this! You’re a talented master of your craft and it’s inspired me to revisit the roadblocks in my own build with direction from your wonderful knowledge/process! - (I’m also at the point of laughing at contour gauge, so I felt that part in my soul with you)
So great to see the project back! It looks cool man 😉
Отличная работа. Не ошибается тот, кто ничего не делает.
If learnt more from this channel about working with filler and bodylines than any other channel - hang in there!
My interest for 74000hp swaps of Lambos has now gone extinct, I guess I'm more adult and more critical of the vainness of those projects, but your videos are the only ones I keep watching. The general mood always put me in a kind of meditative state. Keep doing what you do, the passion shows !
hooray! i was very happy when I saw a new video! sorry you encountered some setbacks near the end.

welcome home. I've been watching the series all the time. There will be small and sometimes big setbacks. I respect you for not giving up and continuing to move forward. I also like cars and enjoy DIY. I'm looking forward to more exciting videos! (I'm Japanese. Google translation. Sorry.)
Finally! I've been anxiously waiting for this! A project of this scale is bound to have setbacks but the final result is going to be amazing.
Welcome back! I missed watching your videos, im sure thisll be awesome!

never give up.
I'm so glad to see you back, bro! I could feel your frustration with the front end 😞. Honestly, though, your attention to detail and work ethic keep us all coming back. I'd happily watch you sand every episode in the pursuit of perfection over throwing out poor quality work. You're doing an amazing job! We're all here for it, brother!
It's great to have you back👊💪
Looking great even with the issues. It will all come together in the end. Keep your head up.
This thing is just perfect! Love the build
I can't even get that where I live, it's not 25 years old yet. I love watching your content. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a Stagea and one of your kits.
Super toujours aussi top ! Les aleas de la préparation, bon courage pour la suite c nickel 👍👍
Great to see you back on screen.
Great long-waited video!
amazing work being done!
Sometimes the project is just about keeping going. Setbacks on that scale take psychologiocal strength, but I find I get better at riding the waves as time goes on. It's always greta watch your process and how it evolves, The trick with filling over the tape is a case in point - great idea. Would you mind sharing how you improved the quality of the print, I'm thinking of printing some smaller flares and would like to avoid as many pitfalls as possible. Thanks.

Cheers mate. I've learned the biggest things that improved print quality was setting print speed much lower (around 8 - 9 mm³/s) and keep the surrounding area warm either with a heater or an enclosure. I'm currently testing out printing moulds instead of the part because then I can make a prototype fiberglass part straight from the mould and not have to worry about plastic on the car warping or cracking.

Yeah it's frustrating for sure. I really wish my workshop had enough space for me to step back from a project and look at it to make sure it was symmetrical. Or at least a floor that was flat and level so I didn't have to guess with everything.
Great Video and Series !

I felt disappointed, desperate and angry at myself as you discovered the difference in the fender height, as I know esactly what it feels like after hours of planning and constructing when you reach suddenly such a point and you can't explain it to yourself at first. Keep on the marvellous work and it's a joy to watch you doing it in such a humble and modest manner - respect and appreciation.

Man that sucks. Sometimes the way to get through is to shift focus periodically or focus on the easier wins. Progress never happens without set backs though.
Tiresome work but such a good progress keep it up mate, its going slowely but surely, as it should when you do your best ;)
fuck man what a bummer. hope you can get that front fender fixed without too much hassle.
sleep ❌ skygea update ✅
i personally love this project, but if you did fenders for more popular cars, like an actual GTR. you could then sell kits after the project is done and you have the moulds. maybe even using carbon fibre. Would be a way to maximise your money made for effort spent. I dont think this project is that though. but you might get the odd offer or 2.
@TofuAutoWorks
2 ай бұрын
I'm actually not interested at all in making parts for popular cars. I think a lot of those cars are overpriced and it stops people from being able to enjoy modifying cars for fun without a huge budget, and so I prefer to make kits for cheap cars like this that people can buy and turn into something cool while still being affordable. It's the same reason I make parts with polyester resin and fiberglass rather than carbon. I'll be selling this kit once it's complete and even though I haven't announced it for sale yet I already have around a dozen people with their names on the list to buy one as soon as it's available.

@@TofuAutoWorks i never really thought of it that way. thats kinda awesome tbh. You are totally right about the overpricing of cars at the moment. seems like every douchebag with an instagram account is a "car enthusiast" right now. I was actually looking at these stageas when i bought my last car, trouble is i wanted a manual and awd, ended up getting a forester sg instead. but these wagons will always be cool to me. (lol, plz do a forester some day)

Oh, man... do you see the rust on the arches? it's horrible. Seal and paint before the rust goes deep. Regarding the front suspension - check the wheel alignment and the condition of the shock absorbers. PS: I'm glad to watch a new EP from you :3
@TofuAutoWorks

All suspension is brand new and had alignment done at the start of the build. It's always the first step if you're trying to make something symmetrical. The rusty arches still need to be cut and welded for wheel clearance. Thanks for looking out for me though bro 👍

I dunno i reckon it’s great progress, some fitment issues with the front wing is a hurdle. Its not out of the remit of vehicle manufacturers to use shims to align panels. Problem is you move one things and then have to check and adjust 3 other things to compensate. I’d try shimming the wing to raise it slightly, adjusting the bonnet and bumper to fit and recheck. It’ll be fine mate, great work
@TofuAutoWorks

I think if I was making this as a one off I'd probably do something like that, but since I want to sell these as kits I'd hate for everyone that buys one to have to do something like this to fix alignment. I'm going to work on getting the fenders exactly symmetrical so that it's a straight bolt on swap for everyone.

Great content, worth the wait! Thoughts on the current state of 3d printing for this sort of job? Is the tech there yet or is it adding more time to it? Could any additional time just be a new skill set and learning curve?
@TofuAutoWorks

I think if you look at other builders you'll see that 3D printing is the way forward for sure. Higher scale operations could look at CNC milling but that's not viable for small shops like mine. The issues I'm running into are 100% on me, it's a brand new method to me but I see it being much faster with practice.

You might be the perfect person to help! I run a race car club at the school I teach at, and we use a Neptune 4 Max to print body parts, and were having lots of trouble with warped parts! What did you do to stop that happing? You've managed to cure what we haven't! Thanks :)
@TofuAutoWorks
2 ай бұрын
When I was getting warping the main things contributing to it were: Print speed too high, slow it down to around 8.5 to 9mm CUBED per second. Volumetric flowrate not linear speed. Part geometry was not optimized. Try and make your parts in shapes that wont bow. A triangle is good, but a gentle curve will shrink and bow in. Build an enclosure or put a heater next to the printer to keep it as warm as possible Avoid in particular the eSun PLA+ in black. This is the filament I use and I found out that it shrinks worse than any other filament, I'll be swapping to white after this. What I'm testing at the moment is actually 3D printing the moulds instead, and then making my prototypes out of fiberglass. I found that even with good practice the 3D printed parts were a little flimsy / warped slightly on the car, but fiberglass is a much better material to build a plug from as it is stable.

@@TofuAutoWorks will do that thank you. We dropped to 10, but going further is a good plan. Did you use a ‘prop’ piece that you used to keep the item up? Or was that just fused on support you were removing with the grinder? Thanks :)
