These two hats WERE made in Canada when I recorded the video over a YEAR AND A HALF ago. Now, only a few Tilley styles are still made in Canada. I have no experience with the 'made in China' versions, but I can't imagine that the quality would have dropped too much. It DOES seem weird that they charge just as much for them when I would assume that the labor costs have significantly dropped. Thanks for watching!

After 20 some years, I decided to wash my Tilley hat LTM6 and it kind of fell apart. I called Tilley because they have a lifetime guarantee. I sent them my hat and within a week I had a brand new Tilley hat. Outstanding customer service!

👍 Yes! I've had very good service from Tilley hats for many years. I like that they survive use and abuse well. Being that my old man status matches the style.. It's a win for me 😎

Got a Tilley endurables hat as well, and love it. They were one of the few companies which make a 7 7/8 sized hat like that for my pumpkin head. Good to preserve that much hard drive space from solar radiation I say.

I purchased a T5MO hat in olive after watching your video. I initially wanted the LTM5 until I found out it's now made in China, the T5MO is still made in Canada. Thanks for your review.

As you point out, a difference between these two hats is one is made of organic cotton and the other nylon. Do you have anything to say about the difference between these materials in terms of breathability, comfort in the heat, durability, washability? Thanks.

Hello Bradley. I spend a lot do time outdoors fishing and hiking. I have 5 Tilley hats (among many others) and they are the best in terms of weight, comfort, and quality. Very washable and durable. Be well.

Had a good friend years ago, since passed away, who had a Tilley hat and wore it everywhere. He swore by it. What made his distinctive was a dark spray of long-dried chicken blood, fore and aft, from him butchering one of his ‘girls’ as he called his chickens. Never knew what happened to that hat. Always wished I had inherited it.

Honestly, for $90, even without the lifetime guarantee they are a great deal. Will easily last 15 to 20 years of heavy use. That's as little as less than $5 per year...which is way better than the $15 Chinese hats that will fall apart in 1 year or less.

Seems that they really put thought into the technical design and they look decent as well. Also it's interesting that you can decide your own work wear there. I live in Finland and work as a construction engineer and here workers have to wear safety colors, hardhat, safety goggles and safety boots/shoes always. So it's pretty much like an uniform for everyone.

It varies here. Ours is a smaller family business, so we can wear what we want within reason. If we do sub-contract work for some companies, we need to wear hard hats and such as well though.

They were originally a boater and traveller hat. Sir Edmond Hillery even wore one. They were worn by Canadian troops in the first Gulf War missed out there but I got one of my own anyway. But I'm Canadian eh. They'll think you are Canadian if you wear it in Hawaii lol. Good choice and they have a nice shape to them. Mr Tilley did his field testing with much trial and error and I think of all the hats in that style his is the best.

@@susiepittman601 I used the past tense because sir edmund is no longer with us but I did not mean he wore it when he climbed Everest. This picture betterworldhats.com would have been after the hat was made and comes from the Tilley catalogue a while ago. I did not know when the hat was created/invented or by whom. Maybe it is just a recycled style from ??? It is about marketing I think. But if they try to sell you a hat with a spear point on the top I'm saying it has been done and did not work LOL. Now put that in your pipe and ruminate... Oh what fun lolol

Thanks for the review. I'm guessing it's just the lighting, but it almost looks the there's some staining around the sweat band on the Olive LTM6. Can you share your experience with staining, from sweat or otherwise?

Just got back from wearing it in Hawaii for a week. It was often windy enough to blow it off my head, but with the wind straps in place, it stayed on, and the brim was NOT very prone to flapping. This was the T5MO though, so it has a thinner brim than the LTM6.

they will not warranty it.I went through 2 and both were denied. Both died of sun and heat. extreme conditions? maybe but 1: I survived. 2: isn't that why I'm paying a premium? after the second one fell apart even faster than the first I stopped buying them and just bought cheap no-name stuff that ironically lasted longer. These are meant for casual occasional use mostly involving bragging points while golfing.

The T5MO foam won't be absolutely fine after a number of years and washings. My hat from 2012 has lost any evidence of foam a long time ago. My hat doesn't have a pocket for the foam, so it's permanently sewn in. I guess they changed the hat giving you the ability to remove the foam to keep it from deteriorating as quickly. I'm not sure if the foam disappeared from washings, or just years of degradation. I suggest if you can take the foam out to wash, do it. I've loved my T5MO and it's been all over the world with me. I just sent in for a replacement as mine has worn out finally, but I was disappointed that they started making this hat in China now instead of Canada according to their website. China usually means cheap.

  • @xc43t

Tilley was sold to another company in recent years. Manufacturing was indeed moved to China. Apart from the pride factor, everything is made in China nowadays so there should be minimum difference in quality. Also, the foam should be removed for washing, I have read it somewhere on Tilley website.
