It’s So sad that so many people think she’s just a “pop star” like go watch her performance of The dance. Kelly slays pretty much every song she covers. She has a new cover on her tv show everyday! She’s not just a pop singer. I could only imagine if she did Whitney’s version. Kelly was the OG of American idol 20 years ago!

If you think that was good watch her tribute to Garyh Brooks at the Kennedy Center Honors. She sings Tge Dance and it's completely amazing. Garth Brooks himself Said that there is no better friend To a song than Kelly Clarkson. She's the Queen of Covers at the beginning of her talk show everyday she covers someone's song.

Kelly Clarkson can sing anything, and I do mean ANYTHING! If you want some more soulful Kelly Clarkson, I'd recommend her _Thankful_ and _Meaning of Life_ albums, or any of her Kellyoke covers from her talk show. Another good one is her "Piece by Piece" performance on the _Idol_ finale.

Kelly clarkson is a vocal chameleon. She can sing ANYTHING. She has done rock, pop, soul, even rapped an Eminem song for her fans! People have slept on her a long ass time! She's really that good all the time!

Yes Kelly won the first season of American Idol in 2002 and she can pretty much sing anything.

Kelly paid homage to Dolly by keeping the song low key for so long. But I was glad that she let loose a bit at the end. She definitely has the chops to have sung it like Whitney all the way through.

I highly recommend Kelly's cover of Garth Brooks The Dance. It might make you cry, it made Garth cry. Also anything of her Meaning of Life album.

Kelly is classical trained and the most versatile vocalist ever. She was the first American Idol and had a contract with RCA Records for over 15 years. They made her do all the pop songs and although these were successful, they didn’t show her vocal ability. Meaning of life is her first album with the new record label and it has the songs Kelly was always meaning to sing!

I feel you. I'm not a pop star kind of girl, and Kelly Clarkson blindsided me. That was years ago now, and she continues to be massively impressive at every turn. She does covers regularly on her show, and her recent cover of Dave Matthews Band's "Crash Into Me" is stunning. I never liked that song until she sang it.

Dolly Parton WROTE this song and when she was asked how she felt about Whitney having a bigger hit with it than she did, her reply was pure Dolly " I'm crying' all the way to the bank" (paraphrasing)

You should listen to the final season of American Idol where she’s singing ‘Piece by Piece’. If you only knew her upbeat songs prior to this, that one will knock you on your ass. I double dog dare you not to get emotional on that one.

Nice reaction, man. If you want to see Kelly Clarkson outside of a pop, money-making machine environment, I suggest to watch her live performance of "piece by piece" on American Idol 2016 when she was pregnant. By the end of the performance she had Keith Urban completely sobbing drenched in his own tears. You don't even have to know the song ahead of time to appreciate this performance.

This was a beautiful tribute to Dolly Parton, a mix of Dolly's version (the original) and Whitney's cover. But Kelly has also done straight up Whitney covers of this song, belting the HELL out of it. So it's not a matter of whether or not she can hit the notes (because she can), but rather doing the even more difficult challenge of balancing Dolly and Whitney.
