In a recent interview she revealed she got notice of the finalization of her divorce on her phone right before she had to go on stage for this performance. 😢

When her voice cracked when she said..aand I wish you joy and happiness...I officially lost it .I'm a puddle...

Great reaction. This was from the American Country Music Awards. This was a tribute to the great Dolly Parton. The first part of the song was done in the way of Dolly and how she sings in more of a story telling way and then the second half was more like Whitney. Kelly did an amazing job. You should see the quick 2 minute video of Dollys reaction afterwards. Another one I liked was from her talk show Kellyoke Seventh Nation Army by White Stripes.

What I absolutely loved about her version is that she made it hers, instead of trying (which is impossible) to replicate Whitney's tone by over-darkening the vowels. Almost everyone goes flat on that climactic "AND IIIIIIIIIII" because they try to artificially recreate Whitney's supernatural ability to sound like an airhorn on a freaking B4. I really, really, REALLY like how she made it her own. She kept it light, subtle, and nuanced, which is perfect for this song. It's like a mixture of both Whitney's and Dolly's versions. It definitely speaks to her own personal artistry, and her ability to adapt songs to her style. I loved it.

She cracked there at the end. But she ended beautifully.

Kelly is just brilliant. The Dolly/Whitney combo with a dash++ of pure Kelly. To get up infront of all those people with Dolly watching from the wings. No big band to hide behind.. you cant mess up. Ty for the reaction and I hope that life treats you kind and things improve

Just subscribed. 🙂 There's another artist I love, and would love your reactions....he doesn't get a lot of radio time, which is a shame. Although the first time I heard him was on the radio a few years ago. A song from his Spark Album. It was Makin Me Feel Good Again.....after that I was hooked and bought the CD listening to it quite often...in fact there are a couple of songs on it that can lift your spirits.. Please let me know what you think. After that, there's an inspirational talk he gave in Dec 2020 you may want to watch... talk about perseverance!!! Seriously, let me know what you think. 🤗 .
