Justin Hayward wrote this song when he was 19. Some have said the lyrics were written many years prior, but the music was composed when he was 19. It's hard to imagine writing such a deep song at that age.

“Days of Futures Past” is a concept album and it runs like a movie score imo. Beautiful, deep and moving album. This song goes into “Late Lament” poem to music style. Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy is spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son Senior citizens wish they were young Cold-hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is grey and yellow-white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion

I was raised on Moody Blues! So happy to see you guys checking them out. Last concert I went to with my Mom about 10 months before she passed was Justin Hayward solo tour (he is the singer in the Moody Blues) and it was so special because it was my Mom wh raised me on them. Along with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. This made my heart happy seeing you guys listening. ✌️❤️

Moody Blues, "Nights In White Satin", maybe, the greatest of all of their hits, I know it's definitely one of my favorite songs by them. They have so many like, "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock and Roll Band", "Tuesday Afternoon/Evening Time To Get Away", "The Story In Your Eyes", "Question", "Ride My see Saw", "Your Wildest dreams" and more. I thought for a moment that the song was going to be the true full version, which has it's own title, "Late Lament", it's a poem set to music, it's pretty cool, maybe you'd like to listen to it sometime. Thanks so much for this reaction!

Moody Blues are considered one of the first symphonic rock and progressive rock bands. Think along the line of how certain Pink Floyd albums have like a central theme all the way through. That’s similar to how the Moody Blues were on Days of Future passed in the mighty year of 1967. In 1967 alone you had Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles with Sgt Pepper, Traffic, early Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett, Cream , Stones and the Who, just to name a few in that year alone.

Absolutely LOVE this track! So much so, it became the wedding song for my wife and I! For me, this is one of THE ultimate love songs. It's message is eternal. Thanks for making my morning. The reason why it sounds like it belongs in a musical is because the album it came from, Days Of Future Passed, released in 1967, is a concept album. Each song deals with a portion of the day (starting at dawn, morning, lunch, afternoon, evening and finally - the night - this song). It was a very early example (some say 'first') of 'orchestral' rock - where the band did their bits, but in conjunction with an orchestra - and the result was pure magic!! Even if you don't do a reaction to it, please, PLEASE do yourself a favour and listen to the whole album (with headphones or a really good stereo system, because the production is stellar!) Standout tracks besides this are: Tuesday Afternoon, The Sun Set, Twilight Time, Dawn Is A Feeling, Another Morning - I've basically just named the entire album!! Other Moodies must listens are: The Story In Your Eyes (much more rocking number), Question, Melancholy Man, I'm Just a Singer In A Rock N Roll Band, Gypsy, The Voice, Lovely To See You, Your Wildest Dreams...for starters. Messages of peace, love and understanding are strung throughout their catalogue.

There's an extended version of this song that has a monologue at the end that's really interesting. This is what it says: Beathe deep in the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy's spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son. Senior citizens wish they were young. Cold-hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is grey and yellow white And we decide which is right And which is an illusion?

I always thought the psychedelic sound came out of San Francisco with bands like Country Joe and the Fish, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service. Even bands like the Electric Prunes and the Blues Magoos. And, of course, Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Actually the Moody Blues was the ultimate cosmic rock band. In the 80s they actually had a song called Veteran Cosmic Rocker which is one of my favorite Moody Blues songs. To fully appreciate one needs to listen to the song before it on the album, Painted Smile and the poem which joins the two songs. It's a masterful commentary on the dark side to being a masterful performer. This song came after they had been on hiatus for a while due to one of the groups members leaving the group due to mental health issues.
