Not so much because of the pneumatics (stuff like this wasn't as freely available to highschool kids back then, lol) but because our school mascot was a dragon... so we had a giant articulated dragon head, and used fire extinguishers to make it breathe.

    Probably the coolest costume of the decade in your town, that is until your daughter makes something even cooler with you next year. This would be a great project to revisit with a deep dive on 4 bar linkages. You have used one here but that's just scratching the surface. You could refine the profile of the wing tip to look like real wings flapping slowly and smoothly, and see how small changes in the lengths of the bars effect the end result. Also I have a hunch you could run it off a single motor if you set up the linkages in the right way. That would also be quieter and get the ~~bombs~~ pressurized air off your kid's back.

    Couldn't you have quiet pneumatics? Or use electric for linear actuators? Also if it broke once, it needs more robustness.

  • @martyschrader

    @martyschrader

    2 жыл бұрын

    You stole my comment. Linear actuators are needed here to get the motion syncronized properly. The binary operation of the valves removes any possibility of getting a smooth, life-like motion. And of course it has to be more robust if you break _anything_ in testing.
