I have a slightly different model and exactly the same thing has happened after approx3 uses 🤬. I took all mine apart and found this was the same problem ( well done for a very good commentary and demonstration). Vax told me they don’t do this part on its own( I have found the same part as yours online but mine is slightly different and can’t find the part anywhere). If it is over 12 months old then that’s it basically! £200 down the drain. Thanks Vax will not be recommending!

Vax have been in touch and will be sending me a replacement for my faulty model. I have been assured that this problem was from a faulty batch and new machines do not have this problem. As soon as I get a replacement I will be uploading a full review and hopefully my new cleaner will not suffer the same fate. To their credit, Vax have been far more helpful than the retailer to sort this problem.

Is there a part to purchase? I’ve only used mine 3 times but had it to long to get it replaced

I had the same problem with my dual power max. The pulley wheel seized and melted and snapped the belt (which Vax won’t sell you a genuine replacement of) Naturally just out of warranty. I made a new pulley wheel out of a piece of aluminium bar instead of that crappy plastic thing. £5 and an afternoon in the shed saved me having to buy a new washer

do u happen to know that part number for the whole wheel assembly ur showing in the video with the black pulley on it mine melted an broke off I looked for the part online unable to find thanks

The North American Hoover version has had the same problem. Cleans astonishingly well, but this appears to have been one of those little 'built to fail' details the company used to make sure this otherwise well-built machine not live too long. What a shame.

I like the lightness and compactness of the Dual Power, but it doesn't remove the dirty solution as well as some of the larger models I've used. The stair hose is great though.

I have one. Same thing happrned working fine then smoke and bdlt disappeared into th machine. There the similarity ends as the underside if my machine completely different so far i have removed 17 screws from underneath and still tbe bottom is fixed also had to removd the top screws that hold the attachment upholstery pipe on. There are sti a couple of remaiing screws that won't budge. Maybe my screwdriver isnt long enough. Dont know where the belt has gone. No videos seem to show the model that is like mine underneath im stumped

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Perhaps some grease or wd40 applied to the pulley would would help prevent it from getting stuck?

I brought this from Walmart over a year ago and now it has done the same thing.. Hoover won’t fix it or even help me unless I have my receipt from over a year ago.. I don’t have the receipt and don’t know what to do.

I've recently been given the same vax from an relative whos had the same fate as this.I repaired it by cut out the bearing at fault inserted 3x ball bearings 19mm outside dia & 6mm inside dia then used a 6 x 50mm bolt as my shaft with a nylon nut to prevent it undoing.i then cut off the excess threads on the bolt to make it more compact & bolted the whole unit back together with a new belt.repair cost me £7 & £12 for new belt.hope this helps someone.

Faulty clutch quite common I get a lot of my customers with this very same problem cheap plastic parts.

How do you change a belt on a vax W85 -pp t . This is the belt from the motor.

I had the reach model and ended up giving it to the tip after it happened 3 times

ibaisaic Its Very's responsibility to accept a return on this item - they sold it to you so they are liable as its faulty. You need to kick up a big stink about it with their customer services - email the director etc etc. I'm sure with all your years of experience in buying vacuum cleaners, this setback wont be anything you cant handle. Kick some ass Roger.

i had the same belt problem vax did not have any but got 2 from repair shop on line but have found the cause of the problem it is a seal for the clean tank that leaks down the back of the machine and into the motor having contacted vax all they want to know is did i register it within the 90 days of purchase and the 20p washer is none replaceable scrap the machine they are crap for parts

We have a vax dual power pet advance got it around 2 years ago, 1st use smoke was pouring out the base, and tripping the electrics because water was leaking all over the motor. Common with this model

IS THAT PULLY MEANT TO TURN MINE DOES NOT TURN AS HAD SAME ISSUES AS YOUR HAS GREEN STICKER AND METAL BAR THOUGH

It could be a faulty switch or a blown fuse.

I have an w86-dd-b max and contacted Vax to get a new belt. They told me the belt is not serviceable. Is it true? I could find aftermarket ones but wanted a genuine one.

I'm just doing my belt. Bought off of e Bay. Amazon want double the price. Just took my original belt off and its a made in China same as what's on ebay. Part number is stamped on the belt. Its a bit of a pain to get in to. Lots of screws but doable.

I very recently contacted vax as our model needed a new belt fitted. Managed to get a replacement, however unlike this video, it is not an easy fix at all. So much so that I contacted customer support (chat) and when I asked how can I replace the belt for my particular model, I was told that it wasn't meant to be replaced. Really? So currently I have a vax, in a dismantled state, which just needs a belt fitted. The model is just over two years old and hasn't received alot of use. What do I do? Well I going to try and fit a the new belt, if I can, but if not I may have to consider dumping it for the want of an easier fix. Sorely disappointed by vax's design department, as with a little more thought they could have deigned something that lasted and was more accessible to repair. However, having thought on that point is it better to build the little (or big) problems into models, as you will generate more sales. They would be far better to invest in customer relations and fit parts that are up to the task e. g. Don't fit cheap parts!

maybe go on line and ask if any one has the same machine to scrap with the part you need im haven the same issuse on my third machine the wire pack lose wire keeps cutting out can you help me take my machine apart cant find a video i have undone loads screws so not sure what to pull thank you vax rapid refresh

Hiya. I have had one of these for a few years. Not used alot. But not brand new. Mine has started smelling of rubber and cutting out. I have checked it all and belt is fine bit very hot. Will they still change the part being as it isn't new

The guarantee will have run out by now, so it’s not likely that Vax will replace any parts.

Have Vax fixed the now 5 years on?

Just bought a W85-pp-t and used it for about 20 minutes and the same thing has just happened.

Just happened to mine. Have had to return.

My dual pet version (blue) has just failed in this exact way, after less than 10 uses on the thinnest pile matting. Back to Amazon for a better brand

Mine is doing the same thing but I have had it a good while. Not used very often. And it's cut out

Here's what I'd like to know. Who at Vax had the brilliant idea to use what looks to be a regular flat belt on something like this? Will all the stress that belt will be placed under it should be like Bissells with a cogged belt with nylon reinforcement so it doesn't stretch, slip, or break.

I will be looking at getting a Bissell carpet washer next. I won't touch Vax again after this experience, especially as I'm having to fight the retailer to accept my return! The thing melted after 20 minutes of use and despite my consumer rights, I have to jump through hoops to get my money back! Shame on Vax and shame on Very.Co.uk.

It's cheap Chinese crap mate bang em out for the masses ,just spotted the roller brushes on mine a were rolling and not spinning stripped everything down to find a broken belt (after 2 months and 3 times used )

Probably used this VAX carpet cleaner (model W86 DP R) maybe 2 hours total. Agree that while it worked it was an excellent cleaner. However my machine has developed the same fault. Tried to find this part online but it seems it's not available. Will be calling the VAX helpline to get a way ahead. Definitely a design fault and I can't believe they don't know about it. Will find out soon enough.

The US version of this is called the Hoover PowerPath (Both made by TTI). If you look at the link - its from Target, and the early reviews from March 2014 all mention this problem. because they r made in china. they suck at using decent parts.

Smoke coming out of motor compartment on a two year old machine ( not belt compartment). Very difficult to clean machine after use especially around the brushes. Unlikely to buy a vax replacement.

I had the same problem With my vax you can't get the parts luckily it was under guarantee I've had another vax.

I'm returning my second duel Vax machine, belts on both machines ceased , melted on the the wheels, Vax will only offer me £60 refund, I've used it 3 time's on mats, I have laminate flooring.

Your video has stopped me buying this cleaner March 2015 ideal world.

Kim Washington same problem with mine no electric shock on it if u find any help please let me know so I can fix mine too it stops after 4 months and as I lost the receipt I never return it called the company they told me they can't help me without the receipt shame

I Had mine delivered Saturday used once, and gone to use it again and smoking, now the whole thing wont switch on, contacted JDW and they are organizing collection. to get inspected by Vax. Awful as its a good machine.

Basically, they are not fit for purpose. Ours died, no replacement parts.

ibaisaic Well said Roger - I totally agree with your sentiments here. Vax is actually TTI now, who are a Chinese company and who produce their products in China. The Chinese are not renowned for their quality control. Numatic runs rings round Vax - sorry to say, but they didn't sell out to the Chinese.

Numatic are good but not very convenient for domestic use. The George model is fiddly to set up and tiring to use. I hope to get one of the new energy saving Henrys soon. I wouldn't call Sebo high tech as many of their uprights haven't changed much since they were launched. Sebo certainly produce some of the best made, reliable cleaners I have ever used.

Yes, Numatic are still British and hopefully they will stay that way. I like the look of the new energy saving models and will probably get one at some point.

A John or Lewis from - you guessed it, might be a good start - they are single speed 580W and even come with a wessel werk head plus an Airobrush head. Apparently the Airobrush works well even at 580W. If Numatic can do it, sub 900W for the new EU regs, then good for them.

If products were the same quality as they were, they would cost a lot more than they do. Unfortunately people are used to buying cheap mass produced consumer goods that aren't designed to last or repaired. This Vax has a two year guarantee and I was expecting it to last at least that length of time before I needed to replace it. I can return it for a refund or send it back to Vax for a repair or replacement so at least I haven't lost anything.

Vax UK I don't tend to trust reviews on a manufacturers website. I have seen plenty of reviews for the dual power model with people complaining of the belt pulley melting. Hoover market an almost identical model in the USA and several reviewers on the Walmart website are complaining of the same thing happening to them. I rang the retailer Very.co.uk who told me they couldn't put me through to their electrical returns department and suggested I left instructions for them to ring me when they were free in a few days! I want this faulty machine picked up and the money credited back to my account. I won't be reviewing a Vax product again and Very have also lost a loyal, high spending customer over this shoddy product. I have removed all my Vax reviews apart from the one showing the fault with the Dual Power. Finally please tell your demonstrator on QVC to stop saying Vax is an iconic British brand when your company is owned by TTI, a Chinese company who have also ruined Hoover USA and will soon be ruining Oreck I expect.

No one has been in touch so far. I have the machine boxed up and ready to be collected. Very.co.uk have been VERY unhelpful with my request to return it to them, even though it is their legal responsibility as the retailer who supplied me the faulty item.
