Patty sings this song with so much emotion that if you don’t get a tear in your eye there is something wrong with you!! Very emotionally done by one of the best female country music singers of our time!! Beautiful sad love song!! I agree 100% that Patty Loveless belongs in the Country Music Hall of Fame as a singer!!

Just unbelievable that she's not yet been inducted. However, I haven't researched whether or not she resides in TN. I found out only lately that it is a stipulation of a CM artist. That is the only reason that George Strait has never been inducted. He's always decided to remain a resident of TX. I think this rule is just preposterous.

That's what each generation says as it drifts into history. The wish never comes true. Each new generation brings its own styles in to replace the old. At least in this digital age the older stuff we like most is preserved on the www where we can still listen to it as if it never went away. I wish the same could be done for all the hair I'e lost over the years, or the miles I used to run every week. Looks like those are gone forever.

Ms.Miner, I pray that you see this....every single thing I've learned about love tells me I would not need any convincing to help my partner if they needed it. Even if I didn't want to I would still help. You broke my heart, but I would still help you. I never knew love, foster homes didn't teach it so I find it extremely odd that even with my life I still believe in true love. To all who are selfish and narrow minded........if you knew just how much that shit hurt, you'd probably still do it, so I'm wasting my breath. I STILL love you, even tho I don't want to.

“What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” Don’t expect your partner of no matter how many days, weeks, months, years or decades to become a mind reader. Like all good things, one must continue to work and fight for a happy marriage. After three decades, and still going strong, we still work at it. And remember to be kind to one another, be forgiving, and ask for forgiveness when you’ve stepped off in it! But it takes two, so for some, unfortunately, reconciliation is not an option.

Someone said, “The reason you have two ears and one mouth is to listen twice as much as you talk.” I’m as guilty as most of thinking I know the answer before the question is asked. We are all a work in progress. Anyhow, if my partner is tuned out, I probably need to stop saying and start doing. Someone else told me, “Your actions speak so loudly I can’t hear the words you’re saying!” And sometimes it really is too late. There’s more life to live. Learn and move forward.

This. This right here. This is, in my humble opinion, the reason that country music had and can still have a resonant backbone. This song and many others are examples of country music at its finest, telling real stories of real people that we can all relate to. That my friends is what made country music universal. Kudos to Patty Loveless and Gretchen Peters for, simply put, bringing a masterpiece to life.

This is one of those songs that sneaks up on you. I remember hearing it on the radio when it was new and I didn't like it the first few times I heard it. I had recently gone through a painful divorce and this song hit a lot of sore spots. Still, you couldn't deny that this song was speaking to millions of people in this country who were going through something similar to this. I also like how this song presents both sides, it's not just his fault, it's not just her fault. Sometimes things just happen and you just can't figure out how to fix them. I very quickly grew to love this song and I still think it's one of Patty's best. This song is a good companion song for another Loveless hit, "The Trouble With The Truth."

Be here. My first marriage, it drained me. He didn't want the help he needed and stopped caring. Though it wasn't always like that. It wasn't even a year before it was all done. His drug use was more important (which is no surprise). I tried for months as a wife to help him. When that didn't work, I tried as a friend. Losing weight dramatically (bones showing), hair loss, paler skin, throwing up everytime I ate and more. He stole and put his youngest in danger. I told him to go and that was it. Now I've been with my current husband almost 10 years. We celebrated our 3 year marriage this past December with out beautiful 3 year old. At the end of the day as bad as that was, I'm glad I went through it. It taught me a lot. While we have our problems we work through it and become stronger for us and most importantly our son.

Hey, thanks for that information. I was 22 yrs old back then. I was in the middle of having my heart broken. When I heard this song for the first time. The bottom of my heart fell out. Whatever, right ? Lol. I still love this song. Wish they still write songs like that. My birthday is in March. Kinda hit home even more. Thanks

I was six years old to the day. I remember my dad always had country on in the car and there's not a song from the early 90s I don't remember. Great music

I’ve heard several version of this song, I like them all. This one give me chills and makes me want to cry. I read a comment that said Patty Loveless is the best female country singer alive , I guess I pretty much have to agree. Not taking anything away from Chris Stapleton though, he really needs to be heard by everyone

I am coming up on 30 years with my wife, the first 10 were the hardest, the Last 10 have been the easiest. Hang in there, it gets better. There is not another woman out there I would trade her for.

@@marla591 it's a labor of love. My wife and I love each other, but it's all too easy to take it for granted. My life wouldn't be any better with another woman. She knows me better than me. The grass is greener where you water it

Indiana&OhioRailway85. You sound like agood and smart man. And I don't know if you made up, "the grass is greener where you water it," but it's brilliant!
