This is totally one of those songs for me too! One of those that hits you right in your life the first time you hear it. I was 20 and home for Christmas from university. The one that got away called me at my parents house over the break. We went on a couple of dates and he told me he’d never gotten over me and all the things he loved about me. In my head I was secretly planning our wedding. He called and invited me over on Christmas Day and he pretty much just slept on the couch and then offered to drive me home when he woke up. 😢 No kisses, no hand holding, nothing that day. Same crap as before. Was totally into me and then suddenly, he’d put this distance between us and I wouldn’t have a clue what was going on in his head. This song came on that night and I cried my eyes out.

That's actually what brought me to this song lol I had my son go ask my husband what flavor of tea he wanted this morning and he said "it doesn't matter." I immediately looked up this song and paused it at the right part. When I brought him his cup of wild berry tea I pressed play so he'd hear "it matters to me."

Sometimes the clichés are true; it's not how many times you fall down, but how you get up back again that matters 🤗. Sometimes you might even limp for a while, but what the heck, you're up😎. I've loved this song since I heard my mom (who is still happily married to my dad) singing it when I was around 8 years old. Faith Hill is a very talented woman. Those who do not like this song should not listen to it nor comment on it. Please listen to your elders people, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. What sort of satisfaction is found that way? If you honestly have found some sort of satisfaction in those previous negative comments, you are a truly sad individual.

When women thought this was romance... and not being choked to death and dog collared like all these sick minded 50 shades of grey basket cases. When women actually flirted and got excited when you would flirt back. Now they have Instagram where they display an altar of their photos to collect worship from men 24/7. They don’t make them like they used to. By the way, I am 30 years old, and women like my mother who was beautiful, raised my brother and I, and always did all she could for my father and family... Women like her don’t exist in my generation. Maybe in the south like Tennessee. If it weren’t for family, my amazing career, and the churches I go to, I would move in a heartbeat. But God has placed me here. Just hope I can find a love like that (Beautiful, Loving, and Nurturing), because I will not marry again unless I find that.

I think that this song speaks to how men and women fight differently. Women (because of the way our brains are wired) tend to carry a fight with a significant other around with us until it is resolved. Men, however, compartmentalize (because they tend to not be multi-taskers). This means they can go to work or bed or whatever and completely push the fight out of their minds. Whereas with us females, it consumes us and there isn't ever a minute we aren't thinking about it. I think that is part of the "Baby where'd you ever learn to fight without saying a word then waltz back into my life like it's all going to be alright." I think that the man honestly doesn't even realize how scared she was or that it felt like this fight didn't matter to him. My boyfriend and I don't fight very often but when we do, in the aftermath before we reconcile, I feel like Faith Hill in this song. Wondering what I can do or say to make him understand how much our relationship and everything matters to me and how much it hurts when it feels like it doesn't matter to him. Meanwhile, the next time we are together, he doesn't even understand why I got progressively more upset. He didn't understand that it was all I could think about for days. Whether I was working or trying to sleep or whatever. Because he was able to push "fight with Kate" outside of his mind. I think that it is important to understand that we both deal with things differently. He does need his space during a fight. And he has realized that I need the affirmations that he still loves me, even if we are upset with one another in the moment.

I know you posted this 2+ years ago, but there's a couple of things about your post. Men are multi-taskers, I believe even more so than women are and that is why we can compartmentalize everything. You are right, we do compartmentalize our lives, its our way of coping. We'll put the fight into a small box and lock it away, not because we don't care, but because we do. We want the fight to be over and done so we can go back to being together again, and its hard for us to understand that you want to hold onto it for days. Because the fight matters so much to us we want it done and over with, not to allow it to linger on, so we tend to push it aside once we stop fighting at the time. You and your boyfriend both need affirmation of the other's love, I know I do when I fight with my wife. The last thing I want to do is to see her hurt, it kills me inside, even more so when I know its me that caused that hurt. I just want to make it right and move on, putting this bad time behind us as quickly as possible. I guess we are wired differently that way, you say women hang onto it while men try to move on as soon as we can. I guess the main point I'm trying to make is we do care, we just approach it differently.

You may not remember me a lot, one of your roadies came to buy a 5 gallon bucket of strawberry ice cream from the ice cream booth I worked at in Hunter, NY at the music festivals. Sorry my boss was a pain and a shrewd miser, but I was more than happy that I could find a way to help, boss got grouchy but couldn't bring himself to fire me because the money didn't matter to you like it did him. What mattered was why did it have to be hard when it shouldn't have been, and your crew. So glad to have helped, and thankful that I played this song today while talking to my wife and son about that day. Today I really needed that song, my wife as well. Thank you. I do have Early Onset Parkinson's, I was diagnosed last year after 10 of misdiagnosis, please don't think I don't love life and my family, and this feels awkward to ask, but your patience and kind humor was a breath of fresh air, as we worked out the strawberry ice cream thing in a way that my boss couldn't do much more than be frazzled, cause I sold ice cream, but yeah. If I could ask humbly for your support toward the National Iniative to Cure Parkinson's, I kinda ended up a policy advocate for MJFF too, cause I'm self advocating already and have been. It brings together multiple organizations plus the DoD, for research, awareness, access, and a sheer mass of will to detect and end Parkinson's early. We really didn't expect this message today, in your song, but it reflects exactly the kind of person you are, even though we just dealt with the ice cream debacle for just a few. I'm not the biggest country fan, but some songs I love, and some share love with the world and how we ache when it's hard to connect and stressful, bless you and your family. Hope you see my post, if you do, please help get the word out about the Parkinson's Initiative, it's non partisan and a win huge for so many people. Hope all is well for you and yours.

I love this song. It's one of my favorites. This is how I feel when people let me down. Or drive me away. It is my pleasure to help keep my past to myself. People use others past against them. So I no in my heart I don't matter to nobody. Only my friends that respect me.

@@cockeyedoptimista Are you really that dumb? This is a love song. It's about a woman in love and the pain she feels with having to put up with a man who makes the relationship difficult to deal with. Duh! You men... if only you would think with your actual brain and not with your dicks. Their wouldn't be so many broken relationships.

No offense to my fellow Faith Hill lovers - but to those who write about her quitting and not putting out an album for 17 years - I feel this song says it all. Long ago I heard Faith was adopted, and thank goodness she was raised with love in a happy home. Family means more to her than fame, because she easily could have been “more famous” than she already is ... but instead, she chose her babies - because like this song says “It matters to me”. I always felt these words came from her heart, even if she didn’t write them, she brought them to life - and hearing this song again in 2022, I realized that she has lived those words! It’s an amazing woman who puts her kids first (especially in the entertainment industry) and is a hands on momma. Faith has my respect!

I did this song karaoke style and my friend said he cried a little. Such a good song. I didn't know the significance of the message when I was a kid listening to this on the radio as my mom raised me country. Little did I know this was probably her message loud and clear. Also, that wig though!

I miss this style of country, and this song can mean so much to you and hit you hard expacilly after just realizing how much your ex really means to you, your far apart and when you speak to them you have no idea what to say or even how to tell them how you feel. Will they accept it? Forgive you for the wrong you did? Even after how many times you hurt them? I had so many health issues that so much clouded my judgment, but not just that I wanted a man who worked and yet he always stood by my side was always there for me and what I do I left him. I love him so much and can't even tell him how I feel because of the fear of being rejected, and all of that hurts so much it kills me I cry every night because of my feelings.

This song touches me in so many different ways. My ex-husband was the type to not talk to me for up to a week at a time living in the same home when he was angry or not getting his way. I remember him telling me about his Dad not talking to his Mom for up to two weeks when he lived at home. I never came from a home like that. Never could understand the reasoning. Yes, my parents had problems, but never acted that way. It wasn't until I was in nursing school that I realized this was a passive aggressive behavior and mental abuse twenty plus years into our marriage. I don't know how my ex-in-laws are still toghter after 60 years. We got divorced after 32 years. Only regret I have is I didn't go on with my life way before when I saw he wouldn't change. His behavior got progressively worse over the years. I had to get a EPO/DVO against him for 36 months before we got a divorce. Don't get me wrong, I am not putting all the blame on him. We are both happier people apart, or I know I am for sure. One does teach others how to treat you. If you don't respect yourself first, no one else will. He is supposedly getting ready to remarry again. We have been physically apart for almost three years, but mentally for decades. I do wish him happiness., but there is a part of me who is concerned for her because she seems to be a good woman. However, she is an adult after all.

@ Barbara Merritt // Oh cheez, another Barbara. Thank you for your honesty & thoughtful sharing. I too had a Barbara, & the marriage IMPLODED. We were both conflict avoidant & passive aggressive. She gave me the silent treatment & treated me Like a House Husband. So yeah, I flipped out first after the mutual screaming started toward the end of our marriage. Just two flawed people, each without a complete Life tool set. Of course, I am the TOTAL bad guy, & had the privilege of buying her our house. No, no I can not find any shreds of decency or quality in her 12 years later.
