This is my favourite decluttering day so far in your series. I tidy up my pantry quite often...probably every 2-3 weeks. I'm constantly checking ingredients so I'm using them up. I don't have a Pinterest pantry. But I do use some baskets. My lazy susan is mostly used for my canned food, extra condiments. And my baking ingredients I have in a pull out drawer. That's exactly what I planned to do if I win today's gift card...Groceries from Superstore 🇨🇦 🙂

Totally agree. Its more a "best before" than "deadly/toxic after" date 😉 We do a lot of food sharing /saving and usually have most dairy products entering our house days after they "expired" and you just need to use smell and try a small bit before digging in. Usually even weeks after the sell by date they taste as if bought at the store right now

An idea or encouragement for others: don’t be afraid to rearrange where items are. Just because you’ve had the crackers in the same spot for a couple years if you now realize the paper plates are better in that spot… change it up! Whenever I rearrange, yes, even I have to get used to it again but ultimately it works better for the space/arrangement and I’m happier/more organized for it. And I finish by giving my husband a little “tour” of where things are now 😉

I’ve labelled my pantry to within an inch of its life, not to make it Pinterest-worthy, but rather to ensure my husband and kids know where to put things back. It means that my pantry rarely gets out of hand, and I just need to focus on wiping down shelves every couple of months (unless there’s a spill, which I deal with immediately).

I really like the convenience of those handy cordless mini vacuums, but haven’t been able to justify getting one. My laundry room could quickly become recluttered if I don’t stay on top of what ends up in there. As much as I wish it were different, it is the main entry into our house for us and guests, so it being clean and tidy is the best first impression I’ve found possible. I’m embracing that plugging in my big vacuum and wielding the unwieldy attachments are what works for now. Thank you for another wonderful video!

Awesome job with your pantry! A game changer for us was moving house 15 months ago & deciding to put our teas into a drawer after a life-time of having them in a cupboard! It's awesome being able to see the top of each box of tea when we pull out the drawer & guests love choosing a tea from the drawer too! Before we had to pull out boxes to get to what we wanted! We decluttered half of our pantry just a month ago, so I'm excited to tackle the other half tomorrow. Today I actually decluttered/tidied our bathroom vanity cupboard & drawers when we swapped out to new toothbrushes. YAY! Another job done!🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

Thank you, Steph! We too, have the non Pinterest pantry. I put flour and sugar and cocoa powder in some pretty jars and rice, oatmeal and cereal in a few Ikea canisters but that's it. It's all housed in kitchen cabinets and we don't have a large back stock of food either. It works for us and we make do! Whenever I see all of those spices, like more than two dozen of them in jars with labels I always wonder if the people really use all of those varieties. I think it's pretty but it just isn't practical for us! This more minimal cabinet food storage helps me to keep things in order and in check so that we don't have expired food. It's great to have a friend who understands storing food simply and without the overabundance.Go us!!!

I love that you're not obsessing over "expiration dates" on your food. Most things are perfectly fine to eat for months, and most dates just say "best by" anyway. I saw a website awhile ago that explained about the dates...I wish I could give you the website.

  • @debbiep7419
    @debbiep74192 жыл бұрын

I have a system that really helps me avoid food expiring. The expiration dates are nearly impossible to find and/or read on so many items. So I got myself in the habit that as I'm putting away groceries in my cupboards, I find the expiration date and rewrite it with a sharpie at the top of the front label then I place the items in the pantry so that the date can be seen with the soonest date in the front. Easy to see what needs to be used soon when I'm planning my menus.

I definitely don’t have Pinterest worthy pantries, but I do decant a lot. I started decanting not for the pretty factor but for practical reasons. My family would constantly leave empty packages in the pantries. Thus, I never knew how much we had of what. This saves frustration on all of us. Lol I’m also a very visual person, so being able to see everything at a glance is very much my thing. Most importantly, we live outside of town surrounded by farm fields and woods, so I need everything in glass or heavy plastic in case mice decide to try to visit or ants try to cohabitate with us. I always say do what works for your personality and lifestyle. Your pantries look great!

YES!!! That popcorn is still good and so is that Barley. Time sure flies, you said you had reorganized your pantry 10 months ago… it seems like only yesterday you moved. Thanks for your inspiration to tackle my pantry yet again!!

Thankfully, this is another one I started already. Being away from home hasn't put me too behind in this challenge.

So important to revisit things or they just get forgotten! A good reminder to refresh my pantry 😊

Omg I see those “Pinterest pantries“ and it just paralyzes me. I’d love my pantry to look like that but it’s overwhelming. This video was inspiring and realistic and now I’m motivated to tackle my pantry full of things that no one ever eats because they can’t find them 😂

Everyone of these videos is so inspiring and yet you are so down to earth! I could imagine having coffee and chatting! Thanks so much.

My trick to prevent onions from spoiling is I peel my onions and store them in a paper lined take away box or any other clear box, then I store it on a shelf in the fridge. They stay good for 3 weeks to a month.

We have a closet pantry with wire shelves. One thing I like to do is put lightweight boards over the wire shelves because products slide better over those. I then use my label maker to label the general areas where things go. Helps me to stay organized. Also, I’m glad you don’t have a Pinterest pantry. It doesn’t always seem as practical to have to empty everything into jars and then keep track of exp dates.

We have our tea in a deep drawer. Because I can look from the top I can see all my tea at once and always know what I have. It's a game changer! In our former apartment we had it organized in a cupboard like you did. Because I'm so tiny I couldn't even reach the tea in the back. I highly recommend to put your tea in a drawer, too. :-)

Pantry declutter just in time... no expired stuff but a bunch of "almost time"... so I put that all on the counter and planned the week's meals! TaDa! Thanks so much for this fun game.

By far the biggest over haul of the challenge yet 🤪 but I got through it in one day. Everything is so neat and organised. Plus, it’s great to have a fresh mental inventory of what my pantry holds! Thanks 😊

I love the way you eat your meals through your pantry declutter! I hate when there is a bag with only a couple of tiny items (like craisins????) in it. Like putting the milk back in the fridge 99 percent empty!!! lol! Enjoying your decluttering!

Just finished this last week before Passover. It's nice having a specific date every year where this HAS to get done.

I used to run a supermarket and, believe me, there are things which you can eat WAY after the expiry date. Also, I am an expat and enjoy cooking more exotic things, so when I finally get my hands on malt vinegar (have to go to Gibraltar to buy) or something like pomegranate molasses, I go crazy when my 'cooks the most but more ordinary stuff' retired husband decides to help by chucking things out after the date. 😏

I literally just moved into my new kitchen about a month ago. Everything in pantry was freshly organized etc. As per your challenge, I decided to take a quick pass and found 2 expired items. I also found to bottle of rice vinegar that I combined and tossed 2 other items that I havent used in a LONG time. Great motivation....Thanks again

We aren’t just Decluttering, we are doing “The Big Purge!” It’s Passover, and we are taking a long look at the food and pots we have. Observant Jews have a whole separate set of dishes, pots and pans. We decided we are going to simplify because future Seders will be just the two of us. They always have been, but we kept the other stuff “in case” we have guests. Knowing we won’t have guests means we have to hang on to a lot less!!! Giving tons away. Also, I’ve been eating low carb for several years. The pantry l purge is that we can toss the old matzo meal, potato starch and matzoh cake meal. WooHoo! If you want to support a local place, you can give us a gift card for Trader Joe’s. They are the only place in our area that Carries kosher meat. Or Ventura Kosher market, which is about 20 miles away.
